5. Lankaran is one of the oldest cities in the Republic of Azerbaijan, the largest city in the southern region, the administrative center of Lankaran district. It is considered the pearl of the south, it is a republican subordinated city. The city of Lankaran is located on the south-western shore of the Caspian Sea, where the River Lankaranchay flows into the Caspian Sea.

Azerbaijan is known for having nine of the 11 defined ecological zones. Much of the country is temperate year-round. Nation-wide the average temperature for the year is 14-15°C (57-59°F). The Caucasus Mountains protect the country from the Arctic air masses that affect Russia in winter while the Caspian Sea shields it from the hot, dry air of Central Asia in the summer.
Cabbage, grape leaves, and eggplant wrapped meat (kelem, yarpaq, badimjan - dolmasi), kabab (kebab), rice with different variety of toppings (plov - It is said that plov is the king of Azerbaijani cuisine), gutabs and meatballs (kufta) are some of the several specialties of Azerbaijan.
Some local drinks include ayran (a yogurt drink based on sour milk) and sherbet (made from rose petals or saffron). There are also different sorts of quite decent wines produced from local grapes and a wide array of mineral waters from natural springs. In some areas of Azerbaijan the markets offer lemonades (limonat/dushes) made from pears or taragon.
There is a good selection of hotels in Baku, including many Western chains, but options elsewhere in the country are limited. Prices for the hotels start from USD60 and higher. Rental apartments might be a good choice as they are cheaper than hotels and sometimes are even more comfortable.

Gakh region is situated in the North of Azerbaijan. 58 villages are situated on the area of 577 sq mi.
Gakh region of Azerbaijan has a long history dating back to ancient times. Archaeological excavations the area had been populated during Eneolithic, Bronze and early Iron Ages. In 1921 Kakhi Region became part of Azerbaijan.
Some places have very ancient history; they took the trace of history to the future because the history is in their each stone, each mountain, and every little piece.
One of such places is Saribash village of Gakh region. This little village in the Greater Caucasus is an evidence of great historical events.
In 1394 Amir Timur paved his way to the North through Saribash.
In 18th century Nadir shah broke a path to conquer Daghistan through this village.

???????? Azerbaijan Road Trip Part 10 - Kish Caucasus Albanian Church
The last point of interest for us in the Sheki region was the city of Kish following the recommendation of the guys in the grand caravansarai in Sheki. They told us to go and see this town and also see the church built by the Caucausian Albanians from 12 or 13th century. A church built by Albanians in Azerbaijan in the 13th century? Trying to form the connection between Azerbaijan and Albania, that was a little bit confusing. Then we left that research to a later time and I even asked some Kosovar Albanian friends about that church and Albanians in Caucaus and they didn't have a clue about it. Well, later on reading about it from Wikipedia, Caucasian Albania was referring to a former state in the ancient times in the Caucaus and didn't have any geographical and historical connections to the Albania of the Balkans ( In any case, they have reigned over the region and we were visiting one of their church which looked similar to the Armenian churches but not exactly same. It was one of the point of interests in our trip and I am glad that we were able to see it.
