If you only have time to make one trip out of St. Petersburg during your stay, then it should be Peterhof, the greatest of all the city's suburban estates. While the best time to visit Peterhof is of course the summer season, when all the varied buildings in the park are open to visitors and the famous fountains are in operation (early May to early October), this is also the time when Peterhof is most crowded, with long queues for some of the major attractions, and for transport back to the city.
There are various transport options to get to Peterhof from central St. Petersburg. Electric trains run from Baltiskiy Station to Noviy Peterhof, and take around 45 minutes. The station is about 20 minutes' walk from the gates to the Upper Garden across Proletarskiy Park, or there are several buses. Alternatively, marshrutka minibuses run from in front of Baltiskiy Station directly to the park gates in Peterhof. There are also marshrutkas from Avtovo (K-424) and from Leninskiy Prospekt (K-242) Metro Stations. The drive from the city should take a little under one hour.
Probably the best way to visit Peterhof is to take a hydrofoil across the Gulf of Finland to the jetty at the end of the Marine Canal. Two companies run regular hydrofoil services through the summer months from the Hermitage jetty, and Admiralteyskaya Naberezhnaya.

Let's start from the outskirts of the city and move towards the center.
Tver (from 1931 to 1990 - Kalinin) is a city in Russia, the administrative center of the Tver region and the Kalininsky district, which is not included, being an administrative-territorial unit with the status of a district and a city of regional significance, forming the municipal district of the same name, the city of Tver.
It is located on the banks of the Volga River, in the area where the Tvertsa and Tmaka rivers flow into it, 177.6 km north-west of Moscow.
Tver was founded in 1135 on the spit of the Tmaki River. Since 1247 - the center of the Tver principality; during the Mongol-Tatar yoke, it became one of the centers of resistance (a major uprising in 1327) and competed with Moscow for the role of the political center of North-Eastern Russia; since 1485 - as part of the Moscow state (later - Russia).
From 1796 to 1929 - the center of the Tver province, and since 1935 - the administrative center of the Kalinin region (since 1990 - the Tver region).
From October to December 1941, the city was occupied by German troops, was badly damaged during the occupation and hostilities, and was subsequently rebuilt. In 1971 he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. On November 4, 2010 he was awarded the honorary title City of Military Glory.
Tver is a large industrial, scientific and cultural center, a major transport hub at the intersection of the St. Petersburg - Moscow railway line and the Rossiya highway with the Upper Volga. The area of the city is 152.22 km², the city is administratively divided into 4 districts (Zavolzhsky, Moskovsky, Proletarsky, Central). Population - 449507 people. (2017).
City self-government is represented by the Tver City Duma (consisting of 33 deputies), the Head of the city, elected by the Tver City Duma from among candidates presented by the competition commission, the City Administration and the Control and Accounts Chamber of the city of Tver.

Solar eclipse in Taipei - huge line at Chiang Kai Shek Memorial
Luckily it moved pretty fast and we got cool glasses within 10 min. They make me look funny. hehe
Clouds Time-lapse during the Solar Eclipse
As I was busy photographing the solar eclipse of 26th January 2009 (first day of Chinese New Year), I had my Panasonic Lumix LX3 on a tripod recording video. I wanted to capture the light change and its visual impact on the sky and surroundings. To be able to record for at least four hours continuously, I used a Toshiba 32 gig SDHC card and a special external battery rig. Even with the high capacity card, I was forced to record on WVGA SD instead of HD. HD eats up 32 gig in 2 hours 50 minutes while WVGA can go for 5 hours 8 minutes on the LX-3. The 32 gig card can store over 7000 10-megapixel still pictures though!
At the height of the eclipse, the moon partially concealed the sun to form a truly beautiful crescent. See my photo of the eclipse on my website (link below). What was even more fascinating was that no one else in the crowded Titiwangsa park seemed to realise a rare eclipse was taking place. Lovey-dovey couples around me were busy feeding each other peanuts while parents had their hands full trying to prevent their kids from jumping into the lake. It was a very hot day. During the peak of the eclipse, the air turned cooler and birds can be seen flying confused. Since it was a partial eclipse, the sky and the surroundings slightly darkened for a short moment, like clouds concealing the sun. (Around 0:15 to 0:18 on the video timeline).
The four hours plus footage was accelerated to under 20 seconds with Thomson Grass Valley's (Canopus) Edius 5 NLE to form the final time-lapse sequence.
