The 10 New Balis Projects | Indonesia tourism plan [ Lombok - Mandalika ]
Australia to provide funding to help Indonesia boost tourism, create 10 new Balis
Through the Indonesian Infrastructure Support Trust Fund, Australia had provided US$2.75 million ($3.51 million) of official development assistance.
A draft document from the World Bank indicates the Indonesian government's desire to increase tourism from 4 percent to 20 percent of their GDP in a five-year period, and to boost international arrivals from 9 million to 20 million people.
Mandalika in Lombok, with its breathtaking coastline and being already popular with international tourists, is considered to have all the features to become a must-see destination. In fact, 3 billion USD of infrastructure has been dedicated to the Mandalika Project, including the construction of more than 10.500 hotel rooms, a theme park, a MotoGP race track and a solar power plant.
Lombok is the obvious one that will get up first from those 10 new Balis because of its proximity to Bali, and also because from all that Bali experience many Australians are already very familiar with Lombok, so it makes sense.

INDONESIA tour to Senggigi, Lombok (6 Oct 2012)
In September/October 2012 we visited Sumatra, Sulawesi, Bali and Lombok. It is long ago, but in the villages not much has changed. Join us on our travels day by day.
On the way back in the afternoon we drove from Kuta to Sade and Narmada.
Sasak Sade is one of Lombok’s indigenous villages. One that will immerse you into the unique, colorful and musical culture of the Sasak Village of Lombok. A short drive south from Praya is the traditional Sasak Village of Sade, which provides an amazing insight into traditional Sasak life. In fact, 700 people are currently residing in the village. And it is not a museum nor only for the tourists. But it is a real village that has been inhabited by the indigenous people of Lombok for a long time. The village consists of around 150 households living in thatched houses with walls of cow dung, which is freshly applied to the house every month to repel mosquitoes and keep the house cool. But amazingly, there was no smell of cow dung on the dry floor. Here you can also visit several homes, get the low-down on family life and guys will enjoy learning how to ‘kidnap’ a bride. Don’t forget to watch the amazing Ikat Weaving and maybe pick up a traditional sarong or two.

I went chasing waterfalls in Lombok, and was pleasantly surprised by how stunning they all were. The Benang Stokel, which was a set of twin waterfalls (!), the popular Benang Kelambu, the Insta-worty Tiu Kelep Waterfall, and Sendang Gile, which was slightly off the beaten path, all blew me away.
I can't believe I missed out on all of them the last time I was here, but I am glad to have came back and do their beauty justice with my own eyes.
