Lake Poyang | lake, China - #china

#PoyangLake
#Located in the #Jiujiang #City, Jiangxi Province, Poyang Lake is the largest fresh-water #lake in #China. Having experienced many #geological changes, it is now wide in the #south and narrow in the north, like a huge gourd tied on the waist of the #Yangtze #River.

Poyang Lake is a resplendent pearl on the vast Chinese territory. For thousands of years, it has been nurturing the people in Jiangxi Province and attracting visitors with her #charm.
Looking out over the vastness of the lake, with its #blue #waves that stretch to the horizon, is much like standing on the shore and looking out over an #ocean. On days when the sun shines and the sky is a clear blue, the sky and the water seem to meet on the horizon. #Sailboats on the lake dart back and forth, appearing to joust with the billowing #clouds. #Rafts float along one after another like a big moving dragon. Poyang Lake is rich in aquatic plants, which create a hospitable environment for many rare species of freshwater fish. In addition, many kinds of rare #birds are #attracted here, making it a popular #destination for #birdwatchers.

The lake has been silting up in recent centuries. Even in #summer there is a wide margin of reedbeds and swamp around the lake itself, and over the centuries large areas of farmland have been reclaimed from the lacustrine deposits. Nanchang, capital of Jiangxi, was once on the lakeshore but is now some 15 miles (24 km) from it. The lake is divided into two sections by a narrow neck of land called Yingzikou. The northern section is sometimes known as Lake Luoxing. The much larger southern section is sometimes known as Lake Zuting, or Lake Guanting.

For migratory birds, Poyang Lake is irreplaceable, affecting more than 98% of the world's white cranes, 95% of Oriental storks, 70% of white-naped cranes and 50% of swan geese. The lake is also home to the Yangtze finless porpoise, another endangered species

northern Jiangxi
Situated in northern Jiangxi,Poyang Lake, the largest fresh water lake in China, lies to the south of the middle and lower reaches of the Changjiang River.

The water level of China's largest freshwater lake, Poyang, continued to decline due to persistent high temperature and the lack of #rainfall, local authorities said Tuesday.

Poyang Lake changes outlook in different seasons | CCTV English

Poyang Lake, located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, shows a very different landscape depending on where the water levels is. It supplies the Yangtze with water during the dry season. Nevertheless, there was another stunning view in the wet period.

China's Largest Lake // This is Western China

Somehow, someway - we managed to find our way to Qinghai Lake, the largest lake in China (as you probably surmised from the video's title). The lake is absolutely beautiful. It's turquoise waters are surrounded by mountains. There are quite a few birds that hangout on the lake and its shores. We also saw some pikas, the very animal that Pikachu is likely based on. These pikas didn't have magical powers, but their butts were kind of cute.

Qinghai Lake is a bit difficult to visit independently. We took a bus from the Xining coach terminal by the train station. The bus dropped us off along the highway by the Qinghai Lake visitor's center. From there we walked along the road to another road that ran all the way to the lake. We walked along the lake for maybe 3 hours and then went back to the highway to wave down a bus back to Xining. After waiting a while, we ended up taking a shared car back for 50 RMB each. It's possible to stay in Tibetan-style tents along the lake, but we went at a very busy time when the prices were way up and the availability was was down.

The Bermuda Triangle of the East Mystery: The Laoye Temple Waters of Poyang Lake

The Laoye Temple waters of Poyang Lake, in China's Jiangxi Province, is often called the Bermuda Triangle of the East, as throughout history multitudes of ships have sank there -- oftentimes under mysterious circumstances. Over a thirty year period from the early 1960s to the late 1980s alone over 200 vessels have met their ends. Ships still mysteriously sink there still, but the reason behind the mystery may have revealed itself.
