Pagee Beach, Port Maria, St Mary, Jamaica
Pagee Beach (also Paggee) is a large fishing beach located in Port Maria, the capital of the parish St Mary, Jamaica (Caribbean).
The beach is famed for the Annual Fishermen's Regatta Competition. It has other variations in spelling such as 'Paggee', 'Pagie'.
Pagee Fishermen's Regatta was born in 1962. It began as a small project of the Pagee Fishermen's Coop. It had a number of boating competitions as well as fun activities for the entire family.
Since then it has grown into a Mecca Calendar event happening every 2nd Wednesday in August. This event has an annual patronage of over 30,000 patrons. This has been arguably the biggest one day event in St Mary Parish.
It has attracted locals, foreigners and the media. This event has been featured on Air Jamaica's in flight movie presentation.
The name of the island seen just beyond is the Cabarita Island.

Cabarita Island, Port Maria, St Mary, Jamaica
Cabarita Island is located in Port Maria, the capital of the parish St Mary, Jamaica (Caribbean).
The island, alternatively known as Ballards Island, Cabarita Islet, Cabaritta Island, Cabaritta Isle, Cabaritto Island, Cabrita Island sits northeast of Port Maria and north of Frontier.
The history books indicate that Christopher Columbus first contact was made at Discovery Bay.
But the first contact was made at Port Maria. Columbus made contact here, took water on and went westwards along the northern coastline to land at Discovery Bay.
Hon Alrick 'Bobby' Pottinger, who retired as Custos in December 2012, after serving for 18 years, agrees.
Port Maria and Cabarita Island past is bigger than its present. Before there was an airport and big business in Kingston, Port Maria was the hub of commercial activities in Jamaica because of the banana trade when Jamaica exported bananas, coconuts, sugar, and citrus to the United States and England.
Port Maria has a natural harbour.
Everything came through here, and from the 1800s to around the 1940s when Kingston took over.
According to locals the cave on the island was made by a Cannonball shot from Fort Haldane.

New Port Maria Market, St Mary, Jamaica
New Port Maria Market located in St Mary, Jamaica (Caribbean).
The town of Port Maria in St Mary will have a modern two-storey market.
The New Port Maria Market on Hodgson Street, said to be the first of its kind in the island, will accommodate vendors on the ground floor, while the first floor will have shop spaces for rent.
The New Market is to replace the old market that had fallen into disrepair.
The renovation not only reshape the physical structure of the facility, but is also consistent with emerging shopping trends.
A contract valued at $56 million dollars to upgrade the facility was signed at the offices of the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development in April, 2018.
The building of the new state-of-the-art market began in July 2018, following a ground-breaking ceremony in the same year.
Phase one of the major rehabilitation of the market, will be a two-storey facility which includes 55 vendor's stalls, a meat market with concrete tables and stainless countertops.
The rehabilitation is part of a $400-million islandwide project by the Government to improve markets across the country.
The market development programme will be the beginning of the end of the practice of vendors selling on the streets, creating challenges relating to order and traffic management.

St. Mary Parish Church (also St. Mary Anglican Church) is located in Port Maria, St Mary, Jamaica (Caribbean).
St. Mary Parish Church is located in Port Maria, St Mary, Jamaica.
The Church which was completed on June 5th 1861 was built by slaves from brick and mortar on the Glebe lands next to the Muster or Parade Ground which is presently the Claude Stuart Park.
St. Mary Parish Church has an adjoining cemetery with an epitaph dedicated to the Jamaicans who fought in World War I.
The Claude Stuart Park which houses the St Mary Parish Library. The Tacky Memorial is also located in this area.
