Lipa Cave is one of the country’s largest and most accessible caves. You can only visit with a guide, but tours leave multiple times per day and last about an hour.

Skadar Lake has breathtaking vistas and driving around the lake to the viewpoints is an experience in itself. But if you’re looking for a little more adventure, we recommend going on a boat tour or kayaking.

7. Tara Canyon
With canyon walls reaching over 1,300 meters or 4,265 feet in some places, Tara Canyon is Europe’s largest and deepest canyon. The canyon is best explored from the water level and rafting is the most popular activity.
6. Durmitor National Park
Durmitor National Park's star attraction is the stunning Black Lake, which can easily be explored on foot. But for more adventure, hike to one of the surrounding mountain peaks, such as Prutaš or Bobotov Kuk.

5. Herceg Novi
Herceg Novi is home to a quaint Old Town, filled with tiny squares, elegant churches, and a fortress. But for the best atmosphere, head down to the waterfront.
4. Perast
With similar looks to Venice, Perast has a rich and powerful past. And in spite of having only one main street, this tiny village boasts many churches and former palaces.
3. Kotor
Kotor is also the most historic place to visit in Montenegro. In fact, Kotor was ruled by various different groups, such as the Illyrians, Romans, and Venetians.

Visiting Lake Plav, Ali Pasha Springs, and Grebaje Valley in Prokletje National Park in Montenegro are some hidden places I can now understand why people like keeping secret. It does require a bit of courage to navigate the roads here from collapsed bridges to fallen trees on freeways, and driving through thunderstorms it was a wild ride and loved every minute of it because it was one of those trips that allowed you to feel connected to everything and nothing, all at once.

National Park Prokletije - Montenegro
The Prokletije mountain rang occupies an area covering eastern Montenegro, northern Albania and western Kosovo. In Montenegro this mountain range is called Prokletije (Cursed Mountains) most probably because of its inaccessibility and rugged features while in Albania it is called Alpe Shqiptare (Albanian Alps). The Montenegrin part of the Prokletije stretches across the municipalities of Plav, Andrijevica and Rozaje.
The mountain range was created by glaciation which left the most notable traces of this type of erosion among mountains in Europe, apart from Alps right here. About ten small glacial lakes in this region bear witness to this history. Some of them are to be found in the area with highest level of precipitation in Europe where even during the summer snow remains on its highest peaks.
In 2009 montenegrin part of Prokletije within municipality Plav, was proclaimed as fifth national park in Montenegro. It covers an area 16.630 hectares and includes two nature reserves: Volusnica and Hridsko lake. Protection zones around the park is 6.252 hectares.
The real richness of flora and fauna, as wel as fantastic views of Prokletije are a real draw for tourist and hikers. The main features of Prokletije which influenced the designation of sites of national importance are typical limestone relief and natural beauty.

▶️ While my last visit in Montenegro only covered the touristic spots along the coast, I ventured out into the less visited mountain areas this time. Starting off at Plav in the North East of the country, I made my first steps on the 192km long Peaks of the Balkans Trek. Even though not part of the circular trek, there was no chance I would miss the Prokletije National Park & Grebaje Valley as my first side trip on the second day. Check out the video for some amazing mountain scenery during autumn with beautiful colours!

Plavsko Jezero is a lake in Plav municipality, in northeastern Montenegro. It is a glacial lake located between the Prokletije and Visitor mountain ranges at an altitude of 906 meter above sea level, and extends north-south for some 2,160 meter. Its average width is 920 meter, and its maximum depth is nine meters. It is the largest and most beautiful lake in Plav, and is also the best known tourist attraction in the area.

Północna Albania i Czarnogóra - Ulcinj - Plav - Kanion Tary (5/6)
Kontynuacja wyprawy do Albanii i Czarnogóry. Wypad odbył się na przełomie lipca i sierpnia 2018 roku. W te tereny dotarłem lecąc z Katowic do Podgoricy, wróciłem za do Wrocławia. Pierwsze dni ponad tygodniowego wypadu spędziłem w górach Albanii zahaczając kolejno o Szkodrę, Theth i Valbonę.
Wizytę w Czarnogórze rozpoczynam od nadmorskiej miejscowości Ulcinj. To tutaj środek sezonu najbardziej da mi się we znaki. Nie przepadam za tłumami, dlatego zwrócę swe żagle ku górom i da mi to w efekcie więcej przygody niż nadmorskie kurorty. Tak więc następnie wybieram się do Plav - jednej z górskich baz głównych Czarnogóry. To o Plav ociera się zdobywający coraz większą sławę szlak Peaks of Balkans, jest tam też magiczne jezioro. Kolejnym etapem jest kanion rzeki Tara i słynne po niej spływy pontonowe zwane raftingiem. Nie omieszkam odżałować 40 euro i spróbować tej atrakcji pod hasłem 'raz w życiu mogę sobie na to pozwolić'. Nie żałuje do tej pory.

The beauty of Plav - Montenegro
In this video we will show you in photos the beauty of this part of Montenegro. In everyday (common) language, the name Prokletije refers to part of the masif which is located in the Plav and Gusinje region. Plav, which occupies 3.5% of the total territory of Montenegro, shares a 52km long border with Albania. The Plav municipalty is organized in three local centers: Plav, Gusinje and Murino.
Plav is located on the bank of Plavsko Lake, in the Visitor mountain foothill, at 910m altitude.
Gusinje is located between Prokletije sharp cliffs to the south, and Visitor mountain to the north, near the rivers Vruje and the Grncara junction.
Murino is located between Visitor and Zeletin mountains in the west, and Cakor in the northeast. North lies the river Lim valley.
