For my last week in Mexico we went on a big road trip in Chiapas for more than a week. Starting in Tuxtla we explored a number of beautiful sights and things to do in Chiapas which can hardly be found in guides. Of course we also wanted to visit popular sights such as Palenque but we managed to make our way down along the border to Guatemala to see the beautiful jungle and the maya sights of Bonampak & Yaxchilan which are harder to access.
You can take this video as a guide but please be aware to take some precaution and do your own research about road conditions / road blocks etc. before you go. Please make sure to avoid driving at night and plan your travel schedule accordingly!

Beside our local Mike also Brendan and Jodie are joining for this Taco Trip (due to the fact we ate so many delicious tacos during this trip).

SONORA
Sonora is a northern state of extreme contrasts. In this border state, which has 916 km (568 mi) of coastline along the Sea of Cortez, visitors will find all kinds of things to do.
At Guaymas, one of the main commercial ports, you'll find marinas, golf courses, hotel resorts and excellent fishing. We recommend that you visit the San Carlos Bay and its big marina, which has the Cerro Tetakawi as a backdrop. You can also go scuba diving at an enormous artificial coral reef. A good option for ecotourism, hunting and water sport enthusiasts is Playa Miramar and the Ciudad Obregon embarcadero, which offer water skiing, sailing, canoeing and fishing. The lagoon and dam of Nainari are also great fishing spots. In Hermosillo, the state capital, the city is known as a bustling commercial, farming and agricultural center with beautiful 19th-century architecture. Nearby you can visit Kino Bay, which has a 10-km (6-mi) beach strip and excellent tourist facilities. If you'd like to see some gorgeous reefs and marine wildlife, go to Isla Tiburon's ecological reserve. For water sports, nothing beats the calm waters of Puerto Peñasco; the desert landscape is ideal for motocross races, and there are also various ecological development projects carried out there. In the port's bay lies Isla San Jorge, a natural habitat for sea lions, dolphins and the harbor porpoise.
Nearby are El Pinacate Biosphere Reserve and Gran Desierto de Altar, two important nature areas that cover a territory of 714,566 hectares (1.7 million acres). There you can go hunting for desert bighorn sheep and mule deer. At these places you can also enjoy sandboarding and mountain climbing. In the south, you can visit the missions of Caborca, Atil and Pitiquito, allowing you to learn more about the region's fascinating history and culture.

Late in May we drove down the Ruta del Rio Sonora about 10 miles South of Banamichi and then another 10 miles of the road, way up in the mountains. We were provided coffee and introductions to the ranchers there that have had the land for four generations. They set us up with five GREAT horses and the BEST guide Roberto. We had an excellent lunch afterwards and then a private tour of how they produce Bacanora, a liquor like mescal or tequila from Agave, but far smoother in my opinion. Look for another video of that tour coming soon.
