Piti Guns - GUAM - WWII 1944 - Travel Guam

In 1941, following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Japanese took possession of Guam. In 1944, the USA was determined to take back their small pacific territory and launched an invasion to reclaim the strategic position. Anticipating the American invasion, the Japanese built significant defenses along the beach and in the hills. These three Vickers-type Model 3s are located up a short hill in the village of Piti (not far from the Piti Power Plant).

To find the trail, head south from Tumon or Hagatna on Hwy 1 (Marine Drive). Before you reach the power plant, you'll pass a Day-by-Day store and a 76 Circle K gas station. Turn left off Hwy 1 at the first road past 76 Circle K. Drive a short distance to read Our Lady of Assumption Church. The trail begins with a set of stairs leading up the hill on the church's back left side (see the video for visuals).

PSA: The use of unmanned aircraft (drones) is prohibited on National Park Service lands. I was unaware of this rule before filming this video. I no longer operate a drone on NPS land and encourage everyone to abide by all federal and state regulations.

GUAM | Things I Miss About Guam | If I visit again, these would be the first things I do!

#guam #guamlife #islandlife

It's been about 9 or 10 months since I left my beautiful island home Guam, and now I'm definitely missing certain things that I can't get anywhere else. If you're a newcomer or you may be moving to the island soon, here are my top 8 things I miss about Guam!

1. Guam beaches! It is an understatement to say that Guam beaches are some of the most beautiful sites you'll ever experience. Not only are they gorgeous, but they're also so easy to get to! My favorite beach for fun, drinking, and sports was definitely Dungca's Beach next to the Jimmy Dee's bar in Tamuning. For quiet and calm scenery, I loved places like the Inarajan Pools, Lotte Beach, Alupang Drive, and so many more. These were perfect settings for meditation or a nice drive away from your busy lifestyle to just be one with nature.

2. My favorite dishes from certain restaurants! Granted you may be able to find dishes similar to these, but of course you can't get an exact match. Some favorites include the spicy tomato penne from Capricciosa, Manicotti and Fettuccine Alfredo from Vitale's, and the soups from Simply Food.

3. Fiesta plates! If you ever get invited to a village fiesta or family fiesta, you must go! You'll fall in love with all the local dishes prepared. Some of my favorite items are Chamoru BBQ, red rice, kelaguen, and pancit.

4. Coconut trees and flame trees! You know you're in a tropical paradise when there are coconut trees everywhere LOL! The more sentimental reason I miss coconut trees is because our dog Max loved playing with coconuts and husking them :(

5. Carabao Brewing's Coconut Porter! Living in Virginia now, yes I have access to so many breweries, but I have yet to find a dark beer that comes close to that awesome porter on Guam. However, that does make it more special because knowing that's the only place I can get that beer, it's just going to taste that much sweeter whenever I get to pay a visit back :)

6. My favorite bars! My favorite nightlife spots would have to be Horse and Cow, Old Traditions, and Porky's Bar. Horse and Cow has a great food and beer selection, but it also has a lot of fun elements for you active adults, like pool tables, a jukebox, video games, and beer pong tables. Old Traditions is located in the quieter side of Tumon, and it was our favorite spot to play darts, foosball, beer pong, and enjoy live music when they had it. It was also one of the very few places that allowed us to bring our dog Max with us, so that was pretty awesome! Porky's Bar in the busier part of Tumon was our go-to for live rock music, from 80's to acoustic, you name it. The positive vibe from everyone just having a great time, plus the awesome service from the friendly bartenders, made this an easy spot to have a fun night.

7. Rockit Ride! This rhythmic cycling studio was a huge part of my workout regimen. I would do 4-5 classes a week because I loved it so much! I haven't really looked around Virginia much to find a place like this, but I'm sure they got to be around here. More so, I'm so sad that I left when my sister started training to be an instructor and is now one of their main ones! I'd love to take her class if I get the chance to visit.

8. Snorkeling! I never knew how much I loved this until I couldn't get the same experience out here. Guam's waters are not only safe and warm, but they're also so clear, which means you can see exactly what you're jumping into LOL! Once you get in though, there are so many species of marine life--from jellyfish to turtles to black-tip sharks, you're always bound to see something whenever you go snorkeling on Guam. My favorite spots would have to be Fish Eye, Ague Cove, Gun Beach, and Gab Gab, but of course, there are so many other awesome snorkeling locations to discover!

GUAM'S ASAN BEACH: The forgotten PITI GUNS from the WW2 American assault (1944),

Island of Guam, Pacific Ocean - the second world war (WW2) Japanese Piti Guns, the second world war Piti Guns in Guam. Let's explore two very historic areas in Guam: Asan Beach, where on July 21, 1944 the Americans landed in Asan to recapture the island of Guam from occupying Japanese forces during the Battle of Guam, and, the Piti Guns. The Piti Guns or Piti Coastal Defense Guns, is the the site of three Vickers-type Model 3 140-millimetre (5.5 in) coastal defense guns in the War in the Pacific National Historical Park in Piti, Guam.
The Asan Invasion Beach is a historic site in the village of Asan, Guam. The beaches of Asan were one of the landing sites of American forces in the 1944 Battle of Guam, in which the island was retaken from occupying Japanese forces. The designated historic site includes the beaches extending between Asan Point and Adelup Point, and extends inland roughly to Guam Highway 1. It also includes the water area extending from the beach to the reef, about 100 metres (330 ft) out, an area that includes at least one abandoned Allied landing vehicle.

GUAM 2023 | A Day in Guam | Day 1

#guam #islandlife #travelvlog #guamlife

We took a trip back to Guam after 2 years of being away and had a great time! Here's a look at a day in the island life:

Traveling from Norfolk to Guam was a long journey, about 20 hours of fly time. It was also a bit nerve-wracking with it being the first time I would be traveling with a baby by myself, but I was still excited to bring my daughter to my beautiful island home.

After getting fully unpacked, we decided to meet up with some family for lunch. I was craving some pasta from Capricciosa, so we went to the location in the Agana Shopping Center. As my mom lives in Mangilao, we took Route 4 down to Agana, which is only an 8 minute drive. I got my favorite dish from Capps, the spicy tomato penne, and my family also ordered the seafood spaghetti.

One of the first things I needed to get was a SIM card to have data for my phone, just for the duration of my trip, so I went to the Docomo store that was also in the Agana Shopping Center.

After taking a nap, we met up with the family again for the Wednesday night market at Chamorro Village. It was awesome to see all the different vendors and activities going on. One of the vendors actually said this was the first time since covid that it had been that busy, so it was nice to know Guam is getting back to normal little by little. This was also a great opportunity for me to get my fiesta plate fix, which included red rice, barbecue chicken, and spare ribs. SO GOOD! Baby Mila had had a long day of activities, so she was knocked out almost the whole time, even through the fiesta music!

GUAM: WW2 Japanese cannons ???? that never fired a shot (PITI GUNS)

Island of Guam, Pacific Ocean - famous second world war (WW2) Piti Guns in Guam, Pacific Ocean. Let's go visit the Piti Guns or Piti Coastal Defense Guns which is a site of three Vickers-type Model 3 140-millimetre (5.5 in) coastal defense guns in the War in the Pacific National Historical Park in Piti, Guam. The Japanese manufactured these Model 3 Piti Guns (coastal defense guns) in 1914. During the Japanese Occupation of Guam from 1941-1944, they built up defensive positions on the island. The Chamorro population was forced to work in building up these defenses, and did so here at the Piti Guns.
The Piti Guns were strategically placed in a village consisting mostly of rice paddies in 1944. This area was chosen to defend the beach at Asan from a possible invasion. The Piti Guns have a firing range of close to 10 miles (16 km) and were intended for use against ships and landing craft. When the United States Armed Forces came to retake the island on July 21, 1944 these guns were not fully operational. Consequently, not one of the three coastal defense guns was ever fired. However, these guns are representative of the type of weapons used by the Japanese on Guam for fortification efforts.

How Guam Got Its Shape - Folklore and Legends of Guam

What does a terrifying fish have to do with the shape of Guam? If you've ever seen Guam on a map, you may have noticed it has an unusual shape, wide on the ends and skinny in the middle.

How did that happen? Well, the ancient Chamorro people had a legend about why Guam is shaped the way it is. In this video we explore the quick story and visit some of the prominent locations, including Hagatna, Hagatna Springs, and Pago Bay.

Guam, 2023. As I made my way to Hong Kong, having hopped through the islands from Honolulu, I couldn't resist making a stop in the captivating destination of Guam. This island had long been on my bucket list, and now was the perfect opportunity to explore it.
Being a US Territory, Guam is home to a significant US naval base with a rich historical background. It's intriguing to think about how the island was beloved by the Japanese in the past, despite the complex historical dynamics. However, in recent times, due to the threats from North Korea and other factors like Hawaii's popularity, Guam has become more frequented by Korean visitors.
And let's not forget about the Chamorros, indigenous people of the Mariana Island.
Unfortunately, Guam has faced economic depression and the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, which have undoubtedly impacted the island. Despite these difficulties, I was determined to see for myself what Guam had to offer.

Guam, 2023.
