Село Чавдар - eдно от най-красивите в България / The magical Chavdar Village in Bulgaria

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chavdar (Bulgarian: Чавдар, pronounced [t͡ʃɐvˈdar]) is a village situated in a mountain region, in the eastern part of Sofia Province, Bulgaria.

It is the administrative center of Chavdar Municipality. The municipality is located in the sub-Balkan Zlatitsa-Pirdop Basin. It consists of only one village, namely the village of Chavdar. The municipality is one of the smallest in Bulgaria, situated at the southern outskirts of the Balkan Mountains, and on the northern foothills of Sredna Gora mountain. It is located about 72 km (45 miles) east of Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria. Close by are the cities of Zlatitsa and Pirdop.
The village got famous lately for becoming one of the most beautiful and modern Bulgarian villages, thanks to the efforts of its mayor and residents.
Prehistoric time
Ever since prehistoric times the land of present time Chavdar has been populated by people. Archaeological excavations of a settlement mound near the Topolnitsa River show that a Neolithic community has been present as early as 7,000 years ago.

The study of Neolithic culture Chavdar began in May 1968. Professor Georgi Georgiev and Senior Researcher Kancho Kanchev, both with the National Archaeological Museum of Bulgaria were leading the efforts through the years to uncover the hidden artifacts. Team of British archeologists were also involved in the archeological dig. Stratigraphic coring results confirmed the presence of seven cultural layers. By 1980 the site was fully explored.

Neolithic Chavdar Culture, polychromatic and anthropomorphic pottery, 6200-5400 B.C., Bulgaria
Early Neolithic village of Chavdar is isochronous to Karanovo I and II Neolithic sites which are dated about 6200 BC. The artifact findings are also similar to Kremikovtsi Neolithic village findings. Early Neolithic culture Kremikovtsi—Chavdar is the earliest Neolithic culture in the Sofia Plain and the sub-Balkan Basin. This culture artifacts have played important role in periodization of the prehistoric time in Bulgaria and the region.

The Neolithic settlement mound consisted of pile dwellings along the Topolnitsa River. Extremely valuable Neolithic painted pottery and stone tools have been found. A sword dated back to 4th century B.C. is also among the artifacts. Other findings include pottery and coins dated to different time in history. All artifacts were made available to specialists for further studies. Now all the findings are in the exhibitions of the Bulgarian National Archaeological Museum (Capital Sofia), and the local historical museum (City of Pirdop).

Medieval Time
According to Dobreyshovo Gospels (first quarter of the 13th century), a village named Markovo has been situated east of the present day village site in a location called Kyoidere.

The first written evidence of the present day village of Chavdar are found in the Ottoman Nikopol District Tax Register dating back to 1430. The village of Chavdar can be found under the name Kolanlar[e] listing 29 taxpayers.

Present Time

Chavdar Village Hall
The village of Chavdar was known as Kolanlare until 1899 when the village inhabitants named their village Radoslavovo after the name of the Bulgarian Liberal Party (Radoslavists) leader at the time Dr. Vasil Radoslavov, a long-time politician, member of parliament, minister in various capacities, and prime minister of Bulgaria.

Legend has it, while visiting the village, sitting at the banks of Topolnitsa River, Dr. Radoslavov has said: If there is a paradise upon Earth, it is here in Bulgaria. If there is a paradise in Bulgaria, it is here [in Chavdar]. Drone

Sofia, Bulgaria (4K City Tour)

This scenery video features original music by Drum Knight:

Sofia is the capital and largest city of Bulgaria. The city is situated in the eponymous valley at the foot of the Vitosha mountain in the western part of the country. The city is built west of the Iskar river, and has many mineral springs, such as the Sofia Central Mineral Baths. It has a humid continental climate. Being in the centre of the Balkans, it is midway between the Black Sea and the Adriatic Sea, and closest to the Aegean Sea.

Sofia has been an area of human habitation since at least 7000 BC. The recorded history of city begins with the attestation of the conquest of Serdica by the Roman Republic in 29 BC from the Celtic tribe Serdi. During the decline of the Roman Empire, the city was raided by Huns, Visigoths, Avars and Slavs. In 809 Serdica was incorporated into the Bulgarian Empire by Khan Krum and became known as Sredets. In 1018, the Byzantines ended Bulgarian rule until 1194, when it was reincorporated by the reborn Bulgarian Empire. Sredets became a major administrative, economic, cultural and literary hub until its conquest by the Ottomans in 1382. From 1520 to 1836, Sofia was the regional capital of Rumelia Eyalet, the Ottoman Empire's key province in Europe. Bulgarian rule was restored in 1878. Sofia was selected as the capital of the Third Bulgarian State in the next year, ushering a period of intense demographic and economic growth.

Sofia is the 13th largest city in the European Union. It is surrounded by mountains, such as Vitosha by the southern side, Lyulin by the western side, and the Balkan Mountains by the north, which makes it the third highest European capital after Andorra la Vella and Madrid. Being Bulgaria's primate city, Sofia is home of many of the major local universities, cultural institutions and commercial companies. The city has been described as the triangle of religious tolerance. This is due to the fact that three temples of the three world major religions—Christianity, Islam and Judaism—are situated within one square: Sveta Nedelya Church, Banya Bashi Mosque and Sofia Synagogue.

Sofia has been named one of the top ten best places for start-up businesses in the world, especially in information technologies. Sofia was Europe's most affordable capital to visit in 2013. In 1979, the Boyana Church in Sofia was included onto the World Heritage List, and it was deconstructed in the Second Bulgarian Empire, holding much patrimonial symbolism to the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. With its cultural significance in Eastern Europe, Sofia is home to the National Opera and Ballet of Bulgaria, the National Palace of Culture, the Vasil Levski National Stadium, the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, the National Archaeological Museum, and the Serdica Amphitheatre. The Museum of Socialist Art includes many sculptures and posters that educate visitors about the lifestyle in communist Bulgaria.

The population of Sofia declined from 70,000 in the late 18th century, through 19,000 in 1870, to 11,649 in 1878, after which it began increasing. Sofia hosts some 1.24 million residents within a territory of 492 km2, a concentration of 17.9% of the country population within the 200th percentile of the country territory. The urban area of Sofia hosts some 1.54 million residents within 5723 km², which comprises Sofia City Province and parts of Sofia Province (Dragoman, Slivnitsa, Kostinbrod, Bozhurishte, Svoge, Elin Pelin, Gorna Malina, Ihtiman, Kostenets) and Pernik Province (Pernik, Radomir), representing 5.16% of the country territory. The metropolitan area of Sofia is based upon one hour of car travel time, stretches internationally and includes Dimitrovgrad in Serbia. Unlike most European metropolitan areas, it is not to be defined as a substantially functional metropolitan area, but is of the type with limited variety of functions. The metropolitan region of Sofia is inhabited by a population of 1.67 million.

This video features footage of the Saint Sofia Monument.
The Statue of Sveta Sofia (English: The Statue of Holy Sophia; Bulgarian: Статуя на Света София; Transliteration: Statuya na Sveta Sofiya) is a monumental sculpture in Sofia, Bulgaria. The statue, erected in 2000, stands in a spot once occupied by a statue of Lenin. Sophia was considered too erotic and pagan to be referred to as a saint. 24 feet in height, the copper and bronze statue by the sculptor Georgi Chapkanov, stands on a 48 feet high pedestal. Adorned with the symbols of power (crown), fame (wreath) and wisdom (owl), the crown is also a reference to the Goddess of Fate, Tyche, inspired by the old emblem of Sofia dating back to 1900.

Hiking up the mountain in Karlovo Bulgaria

After 10 days in Burgas I need to get out and explore some more of Bulgaria.
I ended up in Karlovo. Karlovo has an interesting historical center with a many beautiful old style houses. It is the birthplace of the most important Bulgarian revolutionary Vasil Levski (1837-1873) who was the leader of the movement that freed Bulgaria from the Ottoman rule.

But for me coming here is all about getting away and up there (almost) alone on the mountain I find a deep sense of happiness that reminds me how much I love to just bike or hike all day and make the decision to never forget how easy it is to find a quiet excitement when you are surrounded by beautiful nature and impressive views.

In the media you always see the poverty of Bulgaria. I want to show you it's riches.

The path I am on is an entrypoint to the Central Balkan National Park and you can go further to start a multiple day hike in the Balkans. I can only imagine the beauty of what is up there and hope to one day see more of this impressive but highly underrated part of the world.

Zlatitsa, Pirdop and the highest smokestack in the country, filmed with a drone

Every time I have been travelling the Podbalkanski route (route under the mountain) there has been a fascinating sight after one of the mountain pass curves that leads into the valley – a huge smokestack appears in the distance, dominating the scenery with its massive scale. In a very warm for the start of February day I decided to go have a look and see how these two little towns are doing. The smokestack is actually the tallest in the country with its height of 325,4 meters. It belongs to the Aurubis copper manufacturing plant, which stands between the two small towns called Zlatitsa and Pirdop. Back in the socialistic times these two towns were actually one town called Srednogorie, named after one of the mountain locking them in this beautiful valley. The mountain to the south is called Sredna Gora and the bigger sister to the north is the Stara Planina mountain. We also take a spin in Zlatitsa town’s center square to take a look of some of the buildings, like the community center and the old clock tower, which has been build almost 250 years ago. I was not able to film in the center of Pirdop as I had no more batteries, but we stopped there to have a pretty tasty lunch. A bit out of Pirdop we stopped at our last stop, the ruins of an early Christianity basilica, called Elenska. Fascinating place which has been destroyed by ottomans, but nevertheless a big chunk of history has survived enough to make it a beautiful landmark in the region, deserving of a visit and respect. The basilica has been here since IV century, some three centuries before even the country has been established. Some might even notice a beautiful pregnant woman wandering the ruins…

Relaxing nature of Koprivshtitsa 4K with 3D Audio - Релаксиране в природата на Копривщица

Koprivshtitsa is one of the most characteristic Bulgarian towns, still preserving the atmosphere of the Bulgarian National Revivalperiod of the 19th century. The town is huddled in the mountain-folds, 111 km east of Sofia. The town boasts a large number of architectural monuments from the period, 383 in all, most of which have been restored to their original appearance. Collections of ethnographical treasures, old weapons, National Revival works of art, fine fretwork, household weaves and embroidery, national costumes and typical Bulgarian jewelry have also been preserved. It was here that the first shot of the April Uprising against the Ottomandomination was fired in 1876.
