Abruzzo is a region of Southern Italy with an area of 10,763 square km (4,156 sq mi) and a population of 1.3 million. It is divided into four provinces: L'Aquila, Teramo, Pescara, and Chieti. Its western border lies 80 km (50 mi) east of Rome. Abruzzo borders the region of Marche to the north, Lazio to the west and north-west, Molise to the south and the Adriatic Sea to the east. Geographically, Abruzzo is divided into a mountainous area in the west, which includes the highest massifs of the Apennines, such as the Gran Sasso d'Italia and the Maiella, and a coastal area in the east with beaches on the Adriatic Sea.
Abruzzo is considered a region of Southern Italy in terms of its culture, language, history, and economy, though in terms of physical geography it may also be considered part of Central Italy. The Italian Statistical Authority (ISTAT) also deems it to be part of Southern Italy, partly because of Abruzzo's historic association with the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
Almost half of the region's territory is protected through national parks and nature reserves, more than any administrative region on the continent, leading it to be dubbed the greenest region in Europe. There are three national parks, one regional park, and 38 protected nature reserves. These ensure the survival of rare species, such as the golden eagle, the Abruzzo (or Abruzzese) chamois, the Apennine wolf and the Marsican brown bear. Abruzzo's parks and reserves host 75% of Europe's animal species. The region is also home to Calderone, one of Europe's southernmost glaciers.
Nineteenth-century Italian diplomat and journalist Primo Levi (1853–1917) chose the adjectives forte e gentile (strong and kind) to capture what he saw as the character of the region and its people. Forte e gentile has since become the motto of the region.

Pineto la meraviglia sulla costa adriatica - mare e verde in Abruzzo
Tutta la bellezza di Pineto in questo mix video che mostra la costa dal mare, dalla pineta e dall'alto. Si possono ammirare le acque dell'area Marina Protetta, il verde e l'imponenza dell'ampia e lunghissima pineta e la torre di Cerrano un tempo zona dell'antico porto romano di Atri (a cui si deve l'origine del nome mare Adriatico).

Torre Cerrano Pineto - Silvi e Pineta di Mutignano On the Road
A spasso tra la Torre di Cerrano, Silvi e la Pineta di Mutignano.
La Torre di Cerrano è una delle antiche torri costiere del Regno di Napoli, si trova sulla costa dell'Adriatico a Pineto, in provincia di Teramo; la torre è situata a due chilometri a sud dell'abitato, e spicca nettamente all'orizzonte su una piccola collina a ridosso della spiaggia.
L'area era un tempo il sito dell'antico porto di Atri, nello specchio di mare vicino alla torre e al torrente giacciono sommersi i resti di un molo a forma di L, opere murarie e vari manufatti.
Silvi invece è situato ai piedi delle colline di Città Sant'Angelo ed Atri, è il comune più meridionale della costa teramana. La cittadina, definita la perla dell'Adriatico per l'unicità dei suoi 6 km di arenile, è una frequentata stazione balneare, mentre Il centro storico è situato sulle colline retrostanti a un'altitudine di 242 m s.l.m.
