The Downsides Of Living In Dakar
I've been based in Dakar,Sengeal for almost a year now, and while I prefer living here to Accra,Ghana, it's not all rosy, as with any city in the world. So you choose what you want to have and what you're willing to give up.
Here is part 2 of my first I left Accra for Dakar. Here's WHY. There are other things I certainly struggle with here beyond what I mention in the video, but they require more context, so maybe a longer future video.

It's a Trans-Saharan adventure that connects two continents: Europe and Africa, and crosses five countries: Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania & Senegal.
The crossing from Mauritania #11 days provides technical feats with much sand and tracks passages and Senegal #3 days provide a totally different world, as you drive back along the magical beaches of the shores of Mauritania and Senegal.

Le marche Kermel, classé monument historique, est une très belle halle ronde édifiée en 1860 en fer forgé et en briques, en plein cœur du quartier historique du Plateau. Détruite par un incendie en 1993, elle fut reconstruite à l’identique en trois ans. La pendule située à l’entrée du bâtiment sonnait jadis à midi pour indiquer la fermeture du marché.
A Kermel, on y trouve tous les produits alimentaires à prix « européens », c’est-à-dire chers puisque le marché est fréquenté par des “toubabs” à la recherche des meilleurs produits de Dakar et des régions du Sénégal.
Le marché Kermel est classé au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO depuis 1978. marche kermel

Au Sénégal, la culture traditionnelle est très centrée sur l'idée de famille. Cela inclut également la façon dont ils mangent. In Senegal, traditional culture is very centered on the idea of family. This also includes the way they eat. When it's time to eat a typical meal someone will say kay lekk which means come and eat. Everyone will come together and sit around the plate and eat with their hands. Some famous dishes include Cebbu Jen (Tiéboudienne) and Yassa. The etiquette of the people in Dakar is very simple but very vital. Not greeting someone on sight is to portray rudeness and often ignorance. Due to French colonialism, the children of Dakar have a unique school system. The school stops at noon and the children go home to rest, since most of the daily activities of the population are going to the mosque at noon and attending the mosque on Fridays. Music has a great influence on young people with famous artists like the Daara J Family using their voices to represent the problems in their communities.

Dans cette nouvelle vidéo, je te présente l'unique désert du Sénégal car oui le Sénégal a un désert dans la région de Lompoul où le feu du désert non loin vient rencontrer les cultivateurs, au bord de l'Océan. Le Vent joue aussi son rôle en alimentant de grandes éoliennes.

Located at the westernmost point of the Africa continent, Senegal is known as the Gateway to Africa and has been welcoming travellers from the continent and the world.
This peaceful sub-Saharan country has always flown beneath the tourism radar and
that's everyone's loss. Not only is it one of the continent's safest and most accessible
countries, it's also blessed with a rich culture, dreamy beaches and some of the best
wildlife-spotting. Senegal sure has to be on your bucket list now
Senegal is the country of hospitality
One of the most common questions we hear is if Senegal is safe for travellers - yes, Senegal is safe but like any other destinations, petty crime does happen in large crowds.
Once you get to know the locals, you may soon begin to understand the concept of teranga.
French is the official language - but there are 39 spoken
languages in Senegal
The lingua franca of the Senegalese administration is French but only small number of people speak it fluently. Wolof, the language of Senegal's largest ethnic group, is far more commonly spoken across the country, while Jola is the main language of the Casamance region in the
south. Other languages include Pulaar, Mandinka and Balanta Ganja.
Visitors from many countries won't need a visa
As an ECOWAS (Economic Community of West Africa States) member, Senegal welcomes citizens from all other 14 member states to visit without a visa.
In addition, citizens from all EU countries, Brazil, Canada, , India, Japan, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mauritius, Singapore, South Korea, Tunisia, the United Kingdom and the USA can also visit Senegal without a visa for up to 90 days. However, you'll need to make sure that your passport is valid for at least six months from entry and
that you have proof of return or onward travel. If you hail from Australia, New Zealand or another country not exempt from visa-free visits, contact the nearest embassy or consulate of
Senegal for information.
Senegal is known for its delicious cuisine
Spicy street food, exotic juices, mouthwatering sharing platters, fresh from the Atlantic - Senagalese food will keep your taste buds in a constant state of titillation. The country gleans its culinary inspiration from far and wide, combining French and North African influence
ancient local traditions. Every dish is served with great French-inspired flair, showcasing the
French vibe still present in Senegal's cuisine.
Senegal has seven UNESCO World Heritage sites
Senegal has seven UNESCO World Heritage sites and five of these are cultural, including L'ile de Gorée (Gorée Island). Just off the coast of Dakar, Gorée was once the largest slave-trading centre on the African coast. Today, it is a peaceful corner with no cars and crime. The spine-
chilling history, however, has attracted many world leaders to come for a visit, including President Mandala and President Obama.
It also has fine beaches
If you're looking for a beach holiday, check out La Petite Côte (Little
Coast) or Cap Skirring. La Petite Côte stretches from south of Dakar to la Pointe de Sangom,
and is one of the major tourist destinations in Senegal. Saly, Palmarir Popenguine, Toubab Dialoa are villages along the coast with a good selection of modern accommodation caters to visitors. Cap Skirring, located on Senegal's southwestern corner and just a few
miles north of Guinea-Bissau, is another fine spot. The beaches here are
pristine and the vibe is decidedly laid back.
Wrestling is the number one national sport
Forget soccer or the senegal football team, lamb ji, a type of traditional wrestling where opponents try to throw each other down in the sand, is the number one national sport. Before a major match, fighters have a marabout (spiritual guide) taking them through rituals that combine tribal dancing and traditional prayers. There is a national wrestling arena in Pikine, a suburb of Dakar, so catch a wrestling match if you're there.
A distinctive Senegalese pop genre with West African melodies and a blend of
contemporary western techniques, mblaxa is so popular that you can
hear the music filtering out of almost every street corner. It is important
to talk about mblaxa without mentioning the renowned musician
Youssou 'Dour who has helped to develop this style of music and
brought it to the international stage. 'Dour owns a nightclub in Dakar called Le Thiossane - this is the place to visit if you want to dance the night. Senegal is also the birthplace of famous musician- Akon.
You can make a day trip to The Gambia
The Gambia is Africa's smallest country within mainland Africa. This thin ribbon of land is an enclave within Senegal, meaning you can take a day trip to The Gambia from Senegal easily. There are plenty of tour guides offering single or multi-day trips.
