Pietra Ligure, a charming tiny hamlet on the Ligurian Sea coast between Imperia and Savona, derives its name from a sizable limestone. It is believed that many years ago, this rock served as the foundation for the fortified community of Castrum Patrae, which is now a part of Pietra Ligure Italy.
The town of Pietra Ligure has a pleasant climate all year round due to its advantageous location. The mountains on the town's lee side provide wind protection.
In the Italian Riviera, Pietra Ligure is a charming combination of an antique fishing village and a contemporary beach resort. Although the town's founding dates to the 12th century, when the castle was built, there are also traces of earlier human occupancy, including Roman coins, Iron Age tombs, and caves atop Mount Trabocchetto.
Rome was upset because the Liguri people supported Carthage during the Second Punic War. The Lombards constructed the borgo (hamlet) surrounding the castle, which was constructed by the Bishops of Albenga who used it as their summer palace. The Borgo Vecchio, with its tall, slender, pastel structures, is one of Pietra Ligure's most endearing features. The town expanded during the Middle Ages and after.
The castle has been protecting Pietra Ligure Italy for a millennium, so it is definitely worth a visit. And of course, the majority of people come for its seaside ambiance and the long sandy beaches. They are fine sand, with crystal waters, and oh-so-inviting!
In addition to the beautiful beaches, the town has a shipyards and boat marina, so you may want to rent or hire a boat to see the coast from the water.

Extending south to Tuscany, Italy’s mountainous western coast on the Gulf of Genoa is called, Liguria, a picture book country with paradisiacal cliffs, remote villages, bucket loads of sunshine and a region known as, Cinque Terre, that comprises five villages. Our journey begins in Genoa, the fifth largest city in Italy. A guided tour of the harbour is a good way to gain an understanding of this city which became a powerful economic force in the sixteenth century. The Palazzo Reale was once the residence of the Savoy-Piedmont royal family, with bel-etage, gallery and hanging garden. Monterosso Al Mare is the first and largest of the five villages that comprise Cinque Terre, on the route south. It extends across two bays and two districts, separated by a rock. The modern district of Fegina has a long waterfront promenade, a well-kept sandy beach and a good range of accommodation. Vernazza is considered to be the most beautiful of the five villages mainly because of its location within a splendid bay. Corniglia has no direct access to the sea, but extends along a massive rocky plateau about a hundred metres above the sea. On the hilly outskirts is the San Pietro Church, built in 1334, with an elegant, decorated facade and a rose window of Carrara marble.
