Municipality of Piat in the province of Cagayan, dubbed as the Pilgrimage Center of Cagayan Valley because of the thousands of devotees and tourists who come here to pay homage.
There are quite a few hypothesis on how Piat got its name, a more credible version has it that it is derived from the Ibanag and Itawes word piya which means goodness, kindness, health.

The P.I.A.T. Center features a zipline bike, the black water lagoon, the Our Lady of Piat grotto and the Cross in the Sky, among others.

Catch the first glimpse of Black Water Lagoon on a beautiful clear day, just a short distance away, a little bit climb on the stairs to reach the top of the Iconic Piat hill (Itawis landmark) to see the panoramic views of the mountains from east to west, you’ll also witness your favorite time of day; the sunrise and sunset and grand view of the whole town. The Black Water Lagoon of Piat Cagayan is a family-friendly park and a part of People’s Integrated Agri Tourism Center, it’s just 10-min walk from Basilica Minore Nuestra Senora De Piat.

Cagayan: Tuguegarao to Our Lady of Piat Basilica
This is a spiritual trip to the pilgrimage center of Cagayan Valley - Basilica of Our Lady of Piat which is one of the now 15 Minor Basilicas in the Philippines with the recent inclusion of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc Shrines in Quezon City and Badoc, Ilocos Norte. Together with Malaueg Church, the trip west of Tuguegarao is worth it.
Road to Piat is very good. Expect traffic build up upon entering Tuguegarao.

Our Lady of Piat (Spanish: Nuestra Señora de Piat or Nuestra Señora del Santísimo Rosario de la Visitación de Piat) is a 16th-century Roman Catholic icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary enshrined in a minor basilca situated in Piat, Cagayan, Philippines. It is the town's and the province's patroness and is one of the most venerated Marian images of Mary in the Philippines, referred to as the Mother of Cagayan.
The image, one of the oldest in the country, is credited with many miracles including the end of a drought that threatened famine in the Itawes homeland of the Cagayan Valley where the shrine is located. Piat is dubbed as the Pilgrimage Center of Cagayan Valley because of the thousands of devotees and tourists who flock to the image.
The Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Piat is one of only 21 minor basilicas in the Philippines. It is distinguished as the home to the venerated Black Virgin Mary. The Basilica of Our Lady of Piat is in the town of Piat, which is 30 minutes away by land from Tuguegarao City, Cagayan Province or 41 kilometers northwest of Tuguegarao City. This pilgrimage site attracts a large number of devotees especially on July 1 and 2 when the feast of Nuestra Señora de Piat is celebrated.
The Basilica of Our Lady of Piat has an entrance arch at the back of the church; one has to go around from the entrance to it. The arch has the phrase, Basilica Minore Nuestra Señora de Piat (Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Piat). Our Lady of Piat Basilica sports a simple facade flanked with a tall belfry. It is on top of a hill near the Cagayan River with the intention of avoiding floods brought about by the seasonal overflowing of the river. The church structure is mainly made of red bricks, which is common among churches in Cagayan Valley. It is a contrast to old churches made of limestone and coral stone in many parts of the Philippines.

BASILICA MINORE OF OUR LADY OF PIAT | Piat, Cagayan
The Basilica Minore de Nuestra Señora de Piat (Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Piat) is the home of the 407-year old Black Virgin Mary, the Our Lady of Piat, who is considered as the patroness or Mother of Cagayan and credited for a number of miracles.
It is located in the town of Piat, 41 kilometers (25 mi) northwest of Tuguegarao City or about 30 minutes by land transportation.
Also featured in this video are the mini-park where life-sized stations of the cross could be found, the mural depicting the arrival of Our Lady of Piat, the Sto. Domingo Parish and the Piat Integrated Agri-Tourism Center.

This is the Part 1 of my 3 parts Vlog in Cagayan Valley. Since we arrived early morning and a bit exhausted from 10 hour bus ride from manila to tuguegarao, we decided to go on a light tour before packing our bags up north the following day. Cagayan Valley is one of the biggest province in the Philippines so we opted to pilgrim to the nearest towns from the capital the Tuguegarao.
