Stunning Mountaintop Pagodas in Lampang, Thailand

Wat Chalermprakiat in Lampang Province, Northern Thailand is still somehow a well-kept secret. Despite it being absolutely beautiful, most people don't actually know about it. Even us, pretty well-traveled in Thailand, we'd only ever seen it in a few photos here and there, or a quick cutaway shot in a Thailand video. The place is stunning though. This is the temple for people who don't normally like visiting temples. Really one of the cooler Northern Thailand destinations we've seen.

Wat Phra Phutthabat in Saraburi - Temple of Buddha’s Footprint - วัดพระพุทธบาท 1st Class Temple

Wat Phra Phutthabat วัดพระพุทธบาท is a Buddhist temple in Saraburi, Thailand. It is among the best Buddhist temples in Thailand. Its name means temple of Buddha's footprint, because it contains a natural depression believed to be a footprint of the Buddha.

Phra Phutthabat temple was built in 1624 by King Songtham of Ayutthaya, after a hunter named Pram Bun found a large depression in the stone, resembling a huge footprint, near Suwan Banpot Hill or Satchaphanthakhiri Hill. The hunter reported his find to the king, who ordered workers to build a temporary mondop to cover the footprint; this later became the temple.

The Bunnoowaat sutra tells of the flight of the Buddha to the peak of Mount Suwanbanphot, and of how he left his footprints. It is believed there are five footprints of the Buddha in different places including Phra Phutthabat temple. Some believe that worshiping the footprints, sprinkling water, or placing gold leaf on them will lead to the forgiveness of sin, success in life, or eternal happiness.

The temple is one of the first class temples in Thailand so it is one of the top temples in the country. The footprint, museum and temple buildings are very interesting to see and well worth a stop to see them yourself.

CHIANG MAI'S BEST DAY TRIP | Exploring Wat Doi Suthep and Wat Pha Lat | Chiang Mai, Thailand

CHIANG MAI'S BEST DAY TRIP | Exploring Wat Doi Suthep Temple | Chiang Mai, Thailand

On our first day exploring Chiang Mai, we rented a scooter and headed up to the famous mountain top temple, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. Doi Suthep is a beautiful temple set high on the Doi Suthep mountain and overlooks the city of Chiang Mai.

After getting lost and stuck in a rainstorm we dried off while eating some delicious local food. On our way back down the mountain, we stopped at the lesser-known temple called Wat Pha Lat meaning “Hidden Temple”. This temple was secluded in greenery and was one of our favorite temples we have ever visited!

We ended the day relaxing at a couple of beautiful waterfalls, taking some time to take a dip and enjoy the scenery!
