Exploring Northern THAILAND ???????? Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Temples, Mountains

In this Thailand Travel Vlog, we explore some places in the North of Thailand that have been on our bucket list for so long!!! Unfortunately we only have one day in Phitsanulok before taking an overnight bus to Isan. We arrived late at night, stayed in a (scary) hotel close to the train station, then in the morning we decided to rent a car and head to our bucket list temple: Wat Phra Thart Pha Sorn Kaew in Phetchabun province. We've wanted to go here since we first saw pictures of the amazing Buddha, however it was too difficult to get to on a weekend. Luckily it was an easy drive from Phitsanulok. The temple did not disappoint!!! In fact, we think it's probably one of the best temples in Thailand!
After we left the temple, we were so hungry! We had to stop by the side of the highway for some Pad Krapao. Then we wanted to knock another item off of our Northern Thailand Bucket List: the limestone mountains in Phitsanulok! We were actually really surprised at how cute and touristy this area was! It was full of places to take pictures and cute little homestays with mountain views. There is also the MOST AMAZING HIKE/MOUNTAIN CLIMB you can do actually up the mountain! (This is now our new Thailand bucket list item ????). We found a cute viewpoint area to take pictures and climb a mini mountain.
We wish we had more time to explore this area of Thailand as we had SO much fun in just one day! Hopefully we can visit again soon!

If you are looking for a authentic morning and or night market the Phitsanulok Train Station Market (Dalot Rot Fi) is a fascinating place to explore. It offers many cheap and delicious foods and the opportunity to experience the day in the life of most Thais not affected by hordes of foreigners and mass tourism.

Phitsanulok city itself is an interesting city to spend a few days relaxing, with numerous hotels within walking distance of the train station. Songthaew's (Baht Buses) travel throughout the city.

Phitsanulok Thailand

Phitsanulok is an important and historic city in lower northern Thailand and is the capital of Phitsanulok Province, which stretches all the way to the Laotian border. Phitsanulok is one of the oldest cities in Thailand, founded over 600 years ago. It is probably best known as the birthplace of King Naresuan, who freed the country from Burmese domination in the late 16th Century, and his brother and successor King Ekathosarot (Sanpet III). As the cross-road between the northern and central regions of the country, it has long been important both for political and strategic reasons, and was fought over many times in centuries past. Phitsanulok was the capital of Thailand for 25 years during the reign of King Boromma Trailokanat of Ayutthaya. Located on the banks of the Nan River, the city was originally a small Khmer outpost known as Song Kwae, before the Khwae Noi River changed its course in the 11th Century A.D. Phitsanulok was also a provincial center of the Angkorian Empire during the Angkorian period
