Little-visited Ubon Ratchathani is one of Thailand's most interesting provinces. The capital city has plenty of history and charm, as does the laid-back riverside village of Khong Jiam and the fascinating national parks that surround it. The scenery along the Mekong River is often as bizarre as it is gorgeous and Pha Taem National Park has so much to see that it warrants a couple of days.

We take a trip to a huge lake in the Phibun Mangsahan District. No beach here at Pattaya Noi but we are able to still have plenty of fun in the water.

Gorgeous Glowing Tree Of Life In Wat Sirindhorn Wararam
Wat Sirindhorn Wararam was originally named Wat Phu Prao. It is a forest temple located on a high hill in Sirindhorn District. The ubosot is a replica of Wat Xieng Thong in Laos but is about one times larger than the real one. Inside the ubosot, there are pillars lined up leading to the Buddha image in the posture of meditation that is enshrined within. These pillars are decorated with lotus patterns to cover the morality of the four lotuses.
Behind the ubosot is a mural depicting a glowing Kanlapaphruek tree. Designed by Kunakorn Prinyapunno, inspired by the tree of life in the movie Avatar. And also the idea of bringing “Phosphor”, which is a fluorescent substance used in this beautiful art as well. The courtyard is also inlaid with bas-reliefs that glow during sunset. In addition, this temple has a beautiful sunset viewpoint that clearly overlooks the Mekong River and the reservoir at the foot of the mountain.

แก่งกะเบา : เป็นแหล่งท่องเที่ยวที่สวยงาม ตั้งอยู่ใน เขตบ้านนาแก น้อย ต.ป่งขาม อ.หว้านใหญ่ จ.มุกดาหาร ห่างจากตัวจังหวัดมุกดาหาร 35 กม มีอาณาเขตติดต่อ กับ อ.ธาตุพนม จ.นครพนม ห่าง จากอ.ธาตุพนมเป็นระยะทาง 24 กม. และอยู่ตรงข้าม คือ บ้านแก่งกะเบา เมืองไชยบุรี สาธารณรัฐประชาธิปไตยประชาชนลาว ซึ่งมีลำน้ำโขงเป็นเส้นกั้นกลาง
แก่งกะเบาเป็นแก่งหินยาวเหยียดตามลำน้ำโขง บนฝั่งก็ยังมีลานหินกว้างใหญ่เป็นที่พักผ่อนได้อย่างดี ในฤดูแล้งน้ำลดจนเห็นเกาะแก่งกลางน้ำ และหาดทรายสวยกว่าฤดูอื่นๆ บริเวณริมแก่งกระเบามีร้านอาหารตั้งอยู่ อาหารพื้นเมืองที่ขึ้นชื่อของที่นี่ คือ หมูหันซึ่งมีรสชาติอร่อยตามแบบฉบับสูตรเด็ดของท้องถิ่น
ลักษณะเด่นของแก่งกะเบา คือ มีแก่งหินและโขดหินที่ขวางกั้นแม่น้ำโขง สายน้ำโขงที่ไหลมาจะมากระทบกับแก่งหินและมีการ กัดเซาะทำให้เกิดรูปร่างที่สวยงาม ในบางที่จะมีลักษณะเหมือนกับหลุมลึกบางที่ก็จะเป็นลักษณะเหมือนถ้ำใต้น้ำ ในฤดูแล้งน้ำลดจะเห็นเกาะแก่ง กลางน้ำ และหาดทรายสวยกว่าฤดูอื่น ๆ ซึ่งจะเป็นช่วงเวลาที่นักท่องเที่ยวมาเที่ยวพักผ่อนหย่อนใจมากมายทั้งมา ทำกิจกรรมภายในครอบครัวหรือแม้กระทั่งมาเล่นน้ำก็ตาม ภายในแก่งกะเบามีสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกมากมายไม่ว่าจะเป็นที่พัก ร้านอาหาร บริเวณแก่งมีบริการห่วงยางให้เช่า ให้กับผู้ที่ต้องการลงเล่นน้ำ ก็มีบริการเสมอ ในช่วงเวลากลางวันนั้นอากาศร้อนเพราะว่าในแก่งไม่มีต้นไม้ใหญ่ ให้ร่มเงาควรเอาร่มหรือหมวกกันแดดไปด้วย
แก่งกะเบาสามารถท่องเที่ยวได้ทั้งปี แต่ช่วงที่นิยมมากันจะเป็นช่วงเดือนมกราคม-พฤษภาคม เพราะเป็นช่วงที่น้ำในแม่น้ำโขงลดและไม่เชี่ยวมาก นักท่องเที่ยวสามารถลงไปเดินตามหาดทราย หรือเล่นน้ำคลายร้อน และชมวิวทิวทัศน์ริมฝั่งแม่น้ำโขงได้
ส่วนใครที่ไม่ชอบเล่นน้ำ บนฝั่งแก่งกะเบาก็ได้มีการปรับภูมิทัศน์ให้เป็นสวนสาธารณะ ซึ่งมีความสวยงามและร่มรื่น พร้อมทั้งจัดสร้าง “องค์พญาศรีภุชงค์มุกดานาคราช” พญานาคองค์ใหญ่สีขาวงดงาม นอกจากนี้ยังมีลานนักษัตร 12 ราศี และ ลานวัฒนธรรม 8 ชนเผ่า ให้นักท่องเที่ยวได้เดินชมความสวยงามและถ่ายรูปกันแบบเพลิดเพลินเจริญใจ
ท่ามกลางบรรยากาศ 2 ฝั่งโขง ของแก่งหินที่กว้างใหญ่ ยามน้ำลดจะมองเห็นแก่งหินทอดยาวตั้งแต่ฝั่งไทยไปยังฝั่งลาว เรียกว่าเกือบจะเดินข้ามแม่น้ำได้เลย สถานที่แห่งนี้ก็คือแก่กะเบา สถานที่ัพักผ่อนสำหรับชาวบ้านในละแวกใกล้เคียง รวมถึงนักเดินทางที่สัญจรผ่านมา ระยะทางประมาณ 43 กิโลเมตร จากตัวเมืองมุกดาหาร ก่อนจะถึงตัวอำเภอธาตุพนม 24 กิโลเมตร เป็นที่ตั้งของแก่งกะเบา หากต้องการหาสถานที่พักผ่อนระหว่างระยะทางนี้ แก่งกะเบาเป็นสถานที่ที่เหมาะสม เนื่องจากมีร้านอาหารมากมายให้บริการ ทั้งยังมีวิวทิวทัศน์ที่สวยงาม เหมาะแก่การหยุดพักรถ ทานอาหาร พักผ่อนหย่อนใจ
การเดินทาง : ใช้เส้นทางมุกดาหาร-ธาตุพนม (ทางหลวงหมายเลข 212) ประมาณ 20 กิโลเมตร แยกขวาไปอำเภอหว้านใหญ่อีก 9 กิโลเมตร จะพบทางแยกไปแก่งกะเบา ซึ่งอยู่ห่างจากที่ว่าการอำเภอไปทางทิศเหนืออีก 8 กิโลเมตร
