Breathtaking Adventure in Phetchaburi Province Thailand ???????? This Cave Was Spectacular
PHETCHABURI, THAILAND - On the way to the famous destination of Hua Hin, you will find the province of Phetchaburi. Make sure you stop over here on your way from Bangkok because it is full of surprises. You have stunning mountain landscapes, the ocean, delicious Thai food, rural farms, tranquil caves and as ever, lots of friendly local Thai people. This Thailand province is very rural, very beautiful, and very fun to travel around by motorcycle on this tour of Southern Thailand.
I visit Kaeng Krachan Lake which is a stunning reservoir lake in the province. There are amazing views over the rolling mountains and little islands. I then visit a little fishing village on the coast and stop in a market. Later I head to Tham Khao Luang, a beautiful mountain cave temple in the city of Phetchaburi which King Rama IV of Thailand helped build.

PETCHABURI, THAILAND (เพชรบุรี) - To continue with 5 of Thailand’s Hidden Dishes, we’re driving to Petchaburi (เพชรบุรี), located in Central Thailand to harvest, cook, and eat a rare Thai dish; Toddy Palm Fruit Curry (แกงหัวโหนด).
Part 3) THAILAND’S HIDDEN DISHES, with Tourism Authority of Thailand - This is Part 2 of this 5 Part video series, where I’m traveling around Thailand to eat 5 hidden dishes!
Khanom Jeen Tod Man (ร้านขนมจีนทอดมันเจ้เกียง) - - When we arrived to Petchaburi, we first stopped to eat a quick breakfast of rice noodle topped with freshly fried fish cakes - some of the best I’ve had - all hand made with curry paste and holy basil leaves.
Ban Rai Krang (ชุมชนบ้านไร่กร่าง) - - At this community in Petchaburi we met up with our host Pu Yai Prasong (ผู้ใหญ่ประสงค์). This region is known throughout Thailand for their toddy palm production which they mainly harvest the sap and reduce it down to palm sugar. But they also eat a cutty made from the tops of the young husks, and that’s the dish we’re trying. They first harvested the toddy palm fruits. Then sliced off the tops, pounded a beautiful curry paste and added fish and grilled pork to the recipe. They also added plenty of fingerroot and coconut milk to thicken it. It was delicious! Khanom Tan Mae Ying (ขนมตาลแม่หญิง) - - Additionally, one of my favorite Thai desserts is made from the husk of the toddy palm fruit, and so we were able to see the entire cooking process of this traditional Thai cake. Toddy Palm Cake (Khanom Tan ขนมตาล).
Si Sawat Restaurant (ร้านอาหารศรีสวัสดิ์) - - Lastly, couldn’t miss a Thai food meal of local Petchaburi food. And it was a perfect way to wrap up this incredible day of Thai food.

#1 Krua Bang Tabun (Krua Loong Ya)
Krua Bang Tabun or Krua Loong Ya is a local restaurant next to Bang Tabun river and offers great seafood dishes.
#2 Uncle Thanom Palm Orchard
When Thai people talk about Petcha Buri province, we think of Palm Trees. Palm Trees produce palm which can be used to create palm sugar and various kinds of sweets. The palm sugar juice has really good taste! This place is an inspiration from Uncle Thanom who aimed to preserve palm plantation for local community. The idea has started back in 1992. Palm life cycle is over 200 years, so this is considered a sustainable agriculture. In the orchard area, it is tranquil with soft breeze, so we can easily fall asleep in the afternoon.
#3 Let's Relax
Nice Thai traditional massage in central Hua Hin town, next to Blu Port Mall. I would recommend coming here to relax and get yourself pampered a little with a nice massage for an hour. The interior is nice and clean and the therapists are professionally trained. If you are ready, let's relax!
#4 Centara Grand Beach and Villas Hua Hin
The first resort in this seaside town, dated back to more than a century ago. This is a main location to hold the annual Hua Hin International Jazz Festival.
#5 Pran Buri Forest Park
Pran Buri Forest Park is located only 20 mins by car from Hua Hin downtown. The park admission is free. This cruise activity allows you to study the ecosystem and experience the natural beauty of the mangroves. You can learn about different species of plants and local life of people in this area. The boat rent costs 500 Baht for one trip for up to 8 persons. Another must-do is to walk on a kilometer-long boardwalk over the mangrove forests.
#6 Monsoon Valley Vineyard
Just 45-min drive from Hua Hin beach, we are here at Monsoon Valley Vineyard. Back in 2002, the founder - Khun Chalerm Yoovidhya, was invited to plant grapes at Huay Sai Royal Research Project. He found out that the quality of the grapes was very good, so he started searching for a place in Hua Hin. His ideal spot is where we are today.
#7 Baan Itsara
On our way back to Bangkok, we do not miss having lunch at a local seafood restaurant that has been here for over 20 years. This popular beachfront restaurant serves a large variety of seafood dishes.

Today I’m back in my new favourite THAI TOWN, Phetchaburi. Phetchaburi has just been awarded World
Heritage Status as gastronomy city in Thailand, making it one of only four provinces to have such a distinction. After my second trip here it’s easy to see why. Phetburi has SO much great food, it’s almost comivcal that no tourists come to explore here. In my opinion Phetburi is one of the best places to explore Thai food in the whole country, far better than the nearby beach towns of Hua Hin and Ch Am.
I was joined today by @JBWanders73 and @dannbangkok as we visited my favourite beef noodle joint in the area - ก๋วยเตี๋ยวน้ำแดงเจ๊กเม้ง (น้ำพุ)- for some local Kuay teow nam daeng, or red noodle soup and an incredible Lod Chong and local palm sugar ice cream. Both we INCREDIBLE.
Please take my advice and stick Phetchaburi on your list for your next trip to Thailand.

Palm Tree Curry and Scented-Candle Rice: the Fascinating Food Culture of Phetchaburi, Thailand
Phetchaburi is less than two hours driving from Bangkok- and yet, it's completely forgotten and ignored; lost along the highway connecting the capital to some of the world's most popular beach cities.
And yet- it's a place with more than 1000 years of history and with one of the most unique food cultures anywhere on the planet. In fact, it's been honored by UNESCO for culinary heritage, and still, somehow, it remains a secret even in its own back yard.
We took a road trip to visit Phetchaburi and discovered the town through three of its most famous endemic dishes- Khao Chae, or rice soaked in jasmine water; Khanom Jeen noodles with unique local toppings; and curry made from the fruit of the Toddy Palm tree. And along the way, we met local citizens who proved why this is considered not just a food destination, but a ridiculously friendly place, too.

Phetchaburi serves as the capital of the same-named province. The city's most prominent hill is home to the royal palace (Khao Wang) and a wat or temple. Outside of town, the Khao Luang Caves can be of interest to spelunkers. In one cave, there are Buddhist figurines positioned among the stalactites, and in the other, there is an ancient tree in the centre.

Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park, Phetchaburi Thailand
If you ever find yourself in Phetchaburi City you'll probably look up and notice the big pagoda on the high hill overlooking the town. This was built in the 19th Century as a summer palace for the Thai Royal Family and has since become a historical park. The temple and pagodas are still active religious sites, and the former palace has become a nice museum. Here's a short preview of what you'll see up here.
