Exploring Northern THAILAND ???????? Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Temples, Mountains
In this Thailand Travel Vlog, we explore some places in the North of Thailand that have been on our bucket list for so long!!! Unfortunately we only have one day in Phitsanulok before taking an overnight bus to Isan. We arrived late at night, stayed in a (scary) hotel close to the train station, then in the morning we decided to rent a car and head to our bucket list temple: Wat Phra Thart Pha Sorn Kaew in Phetchabun province. We've wanted to go here since we first saw pictures of the amazing Buddha, however it was too difficult to get to on a weekend. Luckily it was an easy drive from Phitsanulok. The temple did not disappoint!!! In fact, we think it's probably one of the best temples in Thailand!
After we left the temple, we were so hungry! We had to stop by the side of the highway for some Pad Krapao. Then we wanted to knock another item off of our Northern Thailand Bucket List: the limestone mountains in Phitsanulok! We were actually really surprised at how cute and touristy this area was! It was full of places to take pictures and cute little homestays with mountain views. There is also the MOST AMAZING HIKE/MOUNTAIN CLIMB you can do actually up the mountain! (This is now our new Thailand bucket list item ????). We found a cute viewpoint area to take pictures and climb a mini mountain.
We wish we had more time to explore this area of Thailand as we had SO much fun in just one day! Hopefully we can visit again soon!

Phetchabun, Thailand the Top Things To Do
Owing to its relatively cool climate, fresh air and Alpine terrain, Phetchabun is known as the ‘Thai Alps’ or ‘little Switzerland’. The province borders the North, Central and Northeast regions of Thailand and makes a worthwhile stopping off point when passing from one region to the next.
Once notorious for being the scene of a bitter communist insurgency from the 1960’s to 1980’s, the Khao Kho Mountains have since returned to peace and tranquility. Offering some of the best scenic views in the province the area has many points of interest to keep you occupied, from waterfalls, viewpoints and mountain bike trails to war memorials, a Weapons Museum and even a Royal Palace built for the current King, but for many simply driving along stunning stretches of steep winding roads proves to be the highlight of any trip to the area.
For a fascinating glimpse into the provinces’ ancient past, head to Si Thep Historical Park, which contains the ruins of the ancient town of Si Thep, built during the height of the Khmer empire around 1,000 years ago.
For anyone suffering from Temple fatigue we recommend a visit to the unique Wat Pha Sorn Kaew. Loosely translated as ‘Temple on a high glass cliff’, the Wat, just a few years old, is set on a 830 metre peak with a breathtaking backdrop of rugged mountains, and is adorned with over 5 million colourful mosaic tiles. The entire site is a real feast for the senses, and what the Temple may lack in history it more than makes up for in beauty.
Phetchabun is a province teeming with tourist potential, yet remains by in large under the radar of most travelers. But for those willing to take the time to explore, the province is a treasure trove of rich cultural heritage, ancient history and stunning misty mountains, ready to welcome you with open arms and that famous Thai smile.

Heavenly place to visit || Petchabun Thailand
Petchabun province is a province in North-Central Thailand. It is a six-hour drive from Bangkok. We went there via van and we spent 2 days to enjoy the views and experience the place. This video shows the beautiful historical and relaxing places in this province, namely, KHAO KOH, WAR MUSEUM, WAR MONUMENT, WIND FARM, WAT PRASORNKEAW, and PHU TAB BUEK.

Wat Phasornkaew in Phetchabun a must visit temple of out standing beauty and architecture. You will not be disappointed if you visit
Hidden away high up in the hills of north central Thailand, Wat Pha Sorn Kaew is a Dharma retreat for monks and Buddhist followers. The mountaintop sanctuary, with a preaching hall, pagoda, and surrounding gardens, is a stunning design, one that expresses its architectural youthfulness.
The site’s location at Khao Kho was chosen for its natural beauty, to inspire meditation. Set against the serenity of the mountains is the site’s most striking feature, the ice-white temple itself, representing the traditional five Buddhas who visited the Earth. The Buddhas are nested together in the meditation position, looking out over the valley. Each one is slightly larger than the one before, a modern and refreshing design with few hints of traditional Thai architecture.
The non-traditional design extends to the pagoda, a lotus flower-inspired shape set over five levels, with a large glass structure hanging down through the centre to connect each floor. The surfaces are covered with over 5 million mosaic tiles, pottery shards, and pieces of teapots and China sets, with no two patterns alike. It’s colorful and quirky, and sitting in the middle of the mosaics is said to bring fortune and good luck.
Wat Pha Sorn Kaew (also known as Wat Pra Tat Pha Kaew and Watpratarpharsornkaew) was mostly completed in 2004, and was elevated to the status of temple only in 2010. In its short history, despite its remote location, it has become a center for the foundation of mindfulness practice, one of the core Buddhist principles.
It could be argued that Wat Pha Sorn Kaew feels out of place in the remote hills of northern Thailand, and it does bear a striking resemblance to the style of Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. Its style is unlike any other, but no matter the design, the views are breathtaking and the landscape inspiring. In that respect, the temple in the mountains is much like its traditional ancestors.
