10. Visit at least one of the many churches
The most beautiful ones include: Igreja dos Clérigos, São Francisco Church, Igreja do Carmo, and the Porto Cathedral (Sé do Porto)
9. Admire the architecture at the Livraria Lello
The building dates back to 1906 and is often nicknamed the “most beautiful bookshop in the world” due to its blend of different architectural designs.

7. Walk the riverfront (Cais da Ribeira)
This is one of the liveliest parts of Porto, and a great place to walk, dine, and sightsee.

From the water, you can admire the beautiful landscapes and red-roofed buildings of Porto as well as Vila Nova de Gaia. All while learning about the historic bridges that connect both cities. Boat tours leave from the riverfront in Porto (Ribeira Quay) and last about 50 minutes.

5. Take in a view of the city
Best viewpoints: Miradouro da Vitória, the street next to the Porto cathedral, Passeio das Virtudes, Miradouro da Ribeira (for sunset), and from the waterfront of Vila Nova de Gaia.

Located near the Spanish border, the Peneda-Gerês national park is a 2 hour drive from Porto. It’s the oldest protected area and the only national park in Portugal, covering about 695 square kilometers.

The Douro wine valley is where the famous port wine is produced and it’s known as the first demarcated wine region in the world. But besides its wines, this valley is also worth visiting for its incredible landscapes, nature, and history. We spent two days in Peso da Régua and enjoyed wine tasting, hiking, and learning all about the region.

2. Visit the wine cellars at Vila Nova de Gaia
While less idyllic, Vila Nova de Gaia is also known for its port wine. In fact, all the port wine produced in the upper Douro Valley would historically be transported here in barrels on traditional boats (rabelo boats). This is why the riverbanks of Porto today are filled with wine cellars and tasting rooms. Most wine cellars offer wine tastings and guided tours.

During a 2.5 hours guided tour, you’ll see the main highlights of the city, like São Bento train station, Café Majestic, Aliados avenue, and much more. But you’ll also get some recommendations to eat, go out, and have fun. This tour leaves a few times per day from the Liberty Square.

Peso da Régua - the town's name comes from the name of a Roman house that once stood on the site - Villa Reguela. Its great development, however, did not begin until after 1756 with the creation of the Royal Company of Winegrowers of the Alto Douro Region, which established the world's first demarcated wine-producing region.
Located on the banks of the Douro River, the village of Peso da Régua was instrumental in the production and marketing of port wine, because it was from here that the barrels were transported in special boats called barcos rabelos to Vila Nova de Gaia, where the wine was aged in local wineries.
In this region, the vines are grown on terraced slopes descending to the river, providing visitors with a number of spectacular views that are best enjoyed from numerous vantage points, such as São Leonardo in Galafura and Santo António do Loureiro.

Peso da Régua is a beautiful town in the region of Vila Real, Portugal. Peso da Régua is founded along the shores of the Douro river. This is the heart of the Port Wine region from where the wine was transported to Porto City and from there to the rest of the world. Peso da Régua has approximately 20,000 citizens. As the city is built on both shores of the Douro river, many bridges are built in the center of the city. From Peso da Régua starts a beautiful route along the Douro river.

Pegamos o máximo da rodovia que margeia o Rio Douro. Essa estrada é a N108. Quando você pesquisa no Google Maps, a rota que irá lhe fornecer será outra, uma mais rápida e não tão bonita quanto a N108. Por isso, você precisa alterar a rota criada do google para que ela permaneça a maior parte do tempo na N108.
Para ir do Porto a Peso da régua, nós pegamos a N108. Aliás, para conseguir pegá-la você tem que ficar de olho no GPS. Usualmente ele tenta alterar para uma rota mais rápida, então, você a todo momento tem que alterar no mapa.
Não é complicado, pode até parecer ser escrevendo, mas fica fácil de seguir apenas a N108. A vista desse trajeto foi uma das coisas mais lindas que já presenciamos
Nós chegamos a almoçar em Peso da Régua, mas fizemos uma escolha errada e não recomendarei o local. Porém, na cidade em si tem muitos lugares legais para você conhecer e se aventurar na comida.
Aliás, se você conseguir ficar um dia por aqui, dá para fazer passeio nas vinícolas, andar de barco pelo Douro e muito mais.

PT// Efetuámos o percurso pela Estrada Nacional 222 até Pinhão, com vistas deslumbrantes sobre o Douro e as suas vinhas. Paragem no Miradouro de Adorigo. Infelizmente o tempo chuvoso e o nevoeiro não permitiu um melhor aproveitamento do dia.
EN// We took the route along Estrada Nacional 222 to Pinhão, with stunning views over the Douro and its vineyards. Stop at the Adorigo Viewpoint. Unfortunately the rainy weather and fog did not allow for a better use of the day.

O facto de ser o ponto de entroncamento de duas linhas ferroviárias, e de se cruzarem aqui várias estradas, tornou a localidade da Régua num importante centro de comunicações entre as regiões da Beira e de Trás-os-Montes. É também conhecida como a capital internacional do vinho e da vinha. Ao visitar a Régua, ficamos surpreendidos com o passeio pedonal, que percorre toda a cidade junto ao rio Douro.

Amanecer a la misma orilla del rio Duero en el pueblo de Pihnão nos invita a disfrutar de un pequeño paseo turístico en un barquito. El magnífico enclave de las Quintas, como llaman aquí a las haciendas rodeadas de viñedos y olivos nos trae recuerdos de la Toscana. Continuamos la ruta hasta Lamego para finalizar el día en Peso da Régua donde hacemos noche en un parquíng de autocaravanas al lado del Duero.
