Albania spans 28,748 square kilometer, a total population of almost 3 million people as of 2016.
Albania is a unitary parliamentary constitutional republic with the capital in Tirana, the country's largest city and main economic and commercial centre, followed by Durrës and Vlorë. It is located in the south-western part of the Balkan peninsula, bordered by Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the northeast, the Republic of Macedonia to the east, and Greece to the south and southeast.
The territory of Albania was conquered by the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century, of which it remained part of for the next five centuries. After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire in Europe, following the Balkan Wars, Albania declared its independence in 1912 and was recognized the following year. The Kingdom of Albania was invaded by Italy in 1939, which formed Greater Albania, before becoming a Nazi German protectorate in 1943. The following year, a socialist People's Republic was established under the leadership of Enver Hoxha and the Party of Labour. Albania experienced widespread social and political transformations in the communist era, as well as isolation from much of the international community. In 1991, the Socialist Republic was dissolved and the Republic of Albania was established.
Albania is a democratic and developing country with an upper-middle income economy. The service sector dominates the country's economy, followed by the industrial and agriculture sector Following the collapse of communism in 1990, Albania went through a process of transition from a centralized economy to a market-based economy. Albania has a high HDI and is ranked thirty-seventh in the world for life expectancy. It provides universal health care and free primary and secondary education to its citizens.

Dibra City / Maqellar - Rabdisht - Albania
Human activity in the territory of the modern Dibër County can be traced back to the Neolithic.
The region that today corresponds to the county territory was inhabited by the ancient Illyrian tribe of Penestae. They was the first people to leave lasting traces and cultural heritage throughout the region.It is evidenced by the settlements of the Early Bronze Age in Manasdren, the Middle Bronze Age in Çetush, the Late Bronze Age in Pesjakë and several others.
In the Middle Ages, Dibër was part of the Principality of Kastrioti ruled by the royal Kastrioti family with Gjon Kastrioti on the Albanian throne. After the death of Gjon Kastrioti in 1437, the eastern region was annexed by the Ottomans and became seat of the Sanjak of Dibra. The comprising regions were awarded to his son Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg, where he survived to conquere back his father’s land and untie all of Albania in 1444. In the 15th century, further during the Albanian wars the region was the frontier between the Ottomans and the League of Lezhë.
In the 19th century, the Congress of Dibër declared the Albanian language as an official language within the Ottoman Empire. After the Balkan Wars and following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the great powers established the borders of the Balkan states at the Conference of London. The Dibër Valley was cut in half. The western part was assigned to Albania, while the eastern part went to the Kingdom of Serbia, today North Macedonia.

Mount Korab | Perfect Off-Road Trail - ???????? #Albania
Mount Korab is the highest peak of the eponymous mountain range and the fourth highest mountain entirely located in the Balkan Peninsula, standing at 2,764 metres (9,068 feet).
The summit of the Korab mountain range in the Albanian-Macedonian border, Korab is the highest peak of Albania and North Macedonia and also one of only two summits in Europe, which are the highest point for more than one country. The Korab is also the 18th most prominent mountain peak in the European continent and the third on the Balkan Peninsula.
Korab is situated within the Korab-Koritnik Nature Park. It is noted for its rich flora, including species such as Bosnian pine, European beech, Coppicing forest, and Alder forest.
The peak lies adjacent to the Šar Mountains. Mount Korab is also pictured in the national emblem of North Macedonia.

Exploring Albania by Car - We Complete the Loop and Choose a Very Bad Road from Gjinar to Peshkopi
We are Duke and Marion, Boomers Without Borders. In this video we are in Albania in October, 2022. We had a small rental car and made a seven day loop starting and ending in Tirana.
We were definitely off the beaten track. We visited some absolutely beautiful and fascinating places. We shared our adventures during the first half of the loop in our exploring Albania Part 1 video.
This video is about our last three days completing the loop. We drove our rental car from Roshnik to a mountain guest house in Gjinar and then drove to Peshkopi and back to Tirana. The route we chose from Gjinar to Peshkopi was very scenic and remote. But if we wanted to take that route we should have been driving a four wheel drive vehicle. We even saw two big touring motorcycles that were stuck in the deep loose dirt. There are maps of the route we took in the video.

Albanian Rafting Federation (FSHR) together with its sports teams
Albania Rafting Group, Black Drin Adventure -Peshkopi, Albanian Sport & Tourism-AST Elbasan, Albturist Përmet and Albanian Adventure Resort Skrapar organized a joint activity on the river Drini i Zi. The main purpose of this activity was the development and promotion of rafting sport by increasing cooperation between rafting teams throughout the territory of Albania through joint sports activities. Also FSHR will continue training and certification of professional rafting guides, developing and increasing outdoor sports development standards.
We thank the team of Black Drin Adventure and especially Sokol Sava, who were the hosts of today's event of the Albanian Rafting Federation.
