We sale two-storey house in the historic town of Perushtitza. Perushtica is located at the foot of the mountains, near Krichim. It is 17 km southwest from Plovdiv. The city is famous by its architectural landmarks such as the ruins of the ancient city Dragovets, fortress Perestitsa, historical museum. The exhibition presents the history of their village, passing through the settlements of Slavs and Thracians, among which stand the ruins of the Basilica Red Church by the end of the 4th century BC with the uniqueness of its architectural shapes and murals. The museum is one of hundred tourist sites of the Bulgarian Tourist Union.
Panagyurishte - city of swallows
Panagyurishte - city of swallows. Panagyurishte is primarily known for being the center of the April Uprising against the Ottoman rule in Bulgaria in 1876. It was capital of the Fourth Revolutionary District which was the main centre of the rebellion. The uprising was bloodily suppressed after 10 days of declared freedom, and the town was burnt down and almost completely destroyed by the Ottoman Turks. Lady Strangford arrived from Britain later that year with relief for the people of Bulgaria following the massacres that followed the April Uprising. She built a hospital at Batak and eventually other hospitals were built at Radilovo, Panagiurishte, Karlovo, Petrich and here at Perushtitsa.

Bulgaria | Cultural Experience | (S02 E05)
In Episode 05 of Season 02 I take you on a cultural journey in Bulgaria. The aim of the trip was to explore natural beauty, old towns, culture and history.
The trip began at the Seven Rila Lakes, located in the Rila Mountains and situated between 2100 and 2500 meters above sea level. The lakes are a popular tourist destination which offers scenic hikes and incredible panoramic views.
I then headed to Plovdiv, the European Capital of Culture for 2019. Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria and is made up of the New Town and the more popular among tourists, Old Town. Old Town offers a vast amount of activities and landmarks which include museums, ancient amphitheater, old houses open to the public at a small cost and buzzing nightlife. One could also simply stroll and enjoy the cobbled streets surrounded by old architecture.
An hour South-West of Plovdiv is the small town, Batak. A town with vast history, including the Batak Massacre. In the center of town is a cathedral peaking over the old buildings. Next to the cathedral the small church where the Batak Massacre took place in 1876, led by Ottoman troops. As you enter the premises of the church you get a sense of sorrow and feel as if the souls of the thousands who were massacred still dwell around you. Inside on display are two large glass cabinets displaying the skulls and bones of some of the victims, some children. Bullet holes and traces of the fires are still visible on the inside.
Heading back up towards Plovdiv, I took a side trip to Perushtitsa, a small town half-way between Batak and Plovdiv. The main attractions are the Red Church remains, National History Museum and St Archangel Michael church, where yet another massacre took place during the Ottoman rule. What was very interesting is that the National History Museum is managed by the great granddaughter of Peter Bonev, a revolutionary who played an important role in the liberation. After showing around the museum, she took the liberty to take me to St Archangel Michael's church and explained the story behind the massacre as well as details of the attacks.
North of Plovdiv and under the Balkan Mountains is the town of Karlovo. This is the birth town of the Apostol of Freedom, Vasil Ivanov Kunchev (Vasil Levski). Pride in the national hero is displayed across the town in the form of street art. Close to the center of town is the birth home of Levski which is open to the public at a small fee. If you walked past the home, it is likely that you might miss it as it tends to blend in with the surroundings, so it is a good idea to use your navigation or ask the locals for directions to help you locate it.
Only a 10 minute drive West of Karlovo is the small town of Sopot. A charming old town known for its roses, pottery and birth home of famous Bulgarian poet, Ivan Vazov.
In the opposite direction, 20 minutes East of Karlovo is the town of Kalofer. The birth town of revolutionary poet, Hristo Botev. Yet another town with immense history and special charm.
Heading back to the capital city, Sofia, I spent a few days in what I believe is the most underrated old town in the travel industry, Koprivshtitsa. The town with its cobbled roads and houses dating back to the 1800s offers raw beauty and sense of peace. Apart from its charming feel, the town also holds a significant place in history. On 20 April 1876 the first gunshot was fired to mark the beginning of the uprising against the Ottoman Empire. This happened on what is now called, 'Most Purva Pushka', or directly translated to 'First Gun bridge'. The town also offers visitors the opportunity to visit some of the old homes and see how people lived in the 1800s. Enjoy a nice lunch at one of the local taverns or simply take a stroll and soak up the beauty that surrounds you.

Училището „Св.св. Кирил и Методий“, или т. нар. Даново училище в Перущица, е построено от пазарджишки майстори през 1850 г. в двора на църквата „Свети архангели Михаил и Гавраил“ с материалите, останали след завършването и́, и с доброволния труд на перущенлии. Като архитектурен стил сградата принадлежи към т.нар. „пловдивска симетрична къща“ със стволовогредова конструкция. Смесеният градеж придава стабилност на строежа и предпазва зданието от рухване и опожаряване по време на бойните действия през април 1876 г. Цветът на фасадата е повлиян от Ориента и има символното значение на хуманитарна сграда.
Изрисуваните по фасадата колони и други архитектурни елементи в интериора в стил „алафранга“ се определят като типичната за Възраждането украса на обществени сгради и богати домове. На фронтона и над вратата под покрития вход се виждат две стенописни композиции със стилистика, близка до тази на Самоковската школа (изграждане на пространствена композиция, стилистика на изображенията, отношение към силуета). Първият стенопис представлява два дормантни лъва, отговарящи на националната принадлежност на сградата и нейната хуманна насоченост. В полето над входната врата на втория етаж са изобразени светите братя Кирил и Методий, които държат в ръцете си жезъл, символ на духовната власт, и разтворена книга с началната фраза от Евангелието на Йоан.
The school St. Cyril and Methodius, or the so-called Danovo school in Perushtitsa, was built by Pazardzhik craftsmen in 1850 in the courtyard of the church Saint Archangels Michael and Gabriel with the materials left after its completion and with the voluntary work of Perushtitsa residents. As an architectural style, the building belongs to the so-called Plovdiv symmetrical house with stem-beam construction. The mixed construction gives stability to the construction and protects the building from collapse and fire during the hostilities in April 1876. The color of the facade is influenced by the Orient and has the symbolic meaning of a humanitarian building.
Columns painted on the facade and other architectural elements in the alafranga style interior are defined as the typical Renaissance decoration of public buildings and wealthy homes. On the pediment and above the door under the covered entrance, two wall-painting compositions with a style close to that of the Samokov school can be seen (construction of spatial composition, style of the images, relation to the silhouette). The first mural represents two sleeping lions, corresponding to the building's national affiliation and its humane orientation. In the field above the entrance door on the second floor, the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius are depicted, holding in their hands a staff, a symbol of spiritual authority, and an open book with the opening phrase from the Gospel of John.

Момини скали е естествен природен феномен в Родопите, със спиращи дъха отвесни и високи скали. Мястото е с изключително красива панорамна гледка. Намира се на около 20 километра от град Пловдив, в близост до селата Храбрино и Извор. Дестинацията е много подходяща за еднодневна разходка сред природата. Пътеката за живописния каньон се намира на около час път ходене от центъра на село Извор. Легендата разказва, че по време на турското робство една от най-красивите девойки от съседното село, за да не стане робиня и да загуби честта си от турците, решила да избере най-високата скала в района и да се хвърли от там.
Мomini Rocks is a natural phenomenon in the Rhodopi Mountain. The tall vertical rocks can take your breath away and the view from the top is exceptionally beautiful. It is located next to the villages Hrabrino and Izvor - just 20km away from Plovdiv. It's the perfect spot for one day trip in the nature. It takes about 1 hour of walking to get there from Izvor.
A legend says that durring the Ottoman rule one of the prettiest girls from the village decided to jump from the rocks so she doesn't have to be a slave of the Ottomans and lose her honor.

The Batak massacre is the most tragic event for the Bulgarians, who had rose against the Turkish rule during the Bulgarian Anti-ottoman April Uprising in 1976.
After the start of the uprising, part of the armed men in Batak, led by the voivode Petar Goranov, attacked the Turks. They succeeded to eliminate part of the Ottoman leaders, but were reported to the authorities and 5 000 Bashi-bazouk were sent, led by Ahmet Aga from Barutin, which surrounded the town. The orthodox church Sveta Nedelya (St. Nedelya) was the last safe place for the rebels. The most terrifying chapter of the massacre happened on the night of May 2, 1876 in the church's yard. The defense of the church held for three days, the Turkish were shooting ceaselessly at the villagers. Some tried to enter the church from the roof, but the attempts were unsuccessful, although they were able to shoot some of the people inside. There was no water in the church, so the people had to drink the oil from the lamps and the blood of their own dead. They tried to dig wholes into the floor with bare hands in order to find underground water. On the third day the survivors decide to go outside, when they realized their fate is already decided. When they opened the doors of the church, Ahmet Aga was waiting for them with his Bashi-bozouk. A ruthless beheading followed and only those who accepted the Islam were spared.
Before the Bashi-bozouk left the town, they burned the church, but the stone walls were preserved and only the wooden furniture and the icons are destroyed.
According to different sources, between 2 000 and 5 000 people were massacred by the Turks in Batak, Perushtitsa and Bratsigovo during the April uprising.

След началото на въстанието част от въоръжените мъже в Батак, предвождани от войводата Петър Горанов, нападат турците. Те успяват да елиминират част от османските лидери, но това се съобщава на властите в Истанбул, откъдето са изпратени 5 000 баши-бозуци, водени от Ахмет Ага от Барутин, които заобикалят града. Православната църква Света Неделя е последното безопасно място за жителите на Батак. Най-ужасяващата част от клането се случва в нощта на 2 май 1876 г. в двора на църквата. Църквата „Света Троица“ е изградена в центъра на града през 1835 година, благодарение на общите усилия и щедрост на банскалии. Тя е една от най-големите възрожденски църкви строени по българските земи. Мястото за строене на църквата е дарено от Лазар Герман - заможен банскалия и кмет на българската община. Друг виден дарител е Тома Хаджибена, който дава мястото пред къщата си. Общо дарителите са 270 фамилии и 1081 индивидуални дарители. Разрешението за строеж на храм е получено през 1833 година. Главният майстор строител е банскалията Димитър Доюв. В строителството участват 350 майстори – каменоделци, строители и резбари, както и доброволци от селото. Храмът е завършен в 1835 година.
В архитектурно отношение представлява трикорабна, безкуполна псевдобазилика с двускатен покрив и аркадна галерия на запад. Размерите на храма са 35 m дължина и 22,5 m ширина. Архитектурата на сградата мами окото да изглежда малка, а всъщност не е. Градежът е монументален, като каменната зидария е майсторски изпълнена. Зидарията отвън е каменна и с дебелина на стените 1,10 метра, а покривът се носи от 12 колони, които най-вероятно символизират учениците на Христос. Сводовете на вратите и прозорците са от дялани камъни, а стените са иззидани от бели блокове мрамор.
Вътрешното пространство е организирано в бароков стил и има монументално въздействие. Дърворезбените и живописните елементи на декорацията са в хармония, преходите са плавни, без прави ъгли, дървените холкели са със сложни, огънати форми. Трите кораба са разделени от високи измазани и изписани дървени колони с аркади, а таванът на средния кораб е повдигнат върху висок холкел. Женската църква има дървена решетка с изящна плетеница.
Дърворезбите и живописната украса на църквата са дело на тресончанина Велян Огнев, като се предполага, че той е автор и на иконостаса и на амвона. Огнев изписва с цветни орнаменти и геометрични мотиви всички свободни от резба повърхности по иконостаса – подиконните платна, колонките и прочее, църковните мебели и елементите на вътрешното храмово пространство – стените, колоните, плоскостите над акрите на трите кораба.
По декорацията на храма работи видния представител на Банската художествена школа Димитър Молеров.
The Church of the Holy Trinity was built in the city center in 1835, thanks to the joint efforts and generosity of the people of Bansko. It is one of the largest Revival churches built in the Bulgarian lands. The place for the construction of the church was donated by Lazar German - a wealthy Banskalia and mayor of the Bulgarian municipality. Another prominent donor is Toma Hadjibena, who gives the place in front of his house. The total donors are 270 families and 1081 individual donors. Permission to build a temple was obtained in 1833. The main master builder is Dimitar Doyuv from Bansko. 350 craftsmen - stonemasons, builders and carvers, as well as volunteers from the village take part in the construction. The temple was completed in 1835.
Architecturally, it is a three-nave, domeless pseudo-basilica with a gabled roof and an arcade gallery to the west. The dimensions of the temple are 35 m long and 22.5 m wide. The architecture of the building deceives the eye to look small, when in fact it is not. The construction is monumental, as the stone masonry is masterfully executed. The masonry on the outside is stone and 1.10 meters thick, and the roof is supported by 12 columns, which most likely symbolize the disciples of Christ. The arches of the doors and windows are made of cut stones, and the walls are made of white marble blocks.
The interior is organized in Baroque style and has a monumental impact. The wood-carving and picturesque elements of the decoration are in harmony, the transitions are smooth, without right angles, the wooden joists have complex, curved shapes. The three naves are separated by high plastered and painted wooden columns with arcades, and the ceiling of the middle nave is raised on a high ridge. The women's church has a wooden lattice with an exquisite braid.
The wood carvings and the picturesque decoration of the church are the work of Velyan Ognev from Treson, and it is assumed that he is the author of both the iconostasis and the pulpit. Ognev painted with colorful ornaments and geometric motifs all non-carved surfaces on the iconostasis - the window sills, columns, etc., church furniture and elements of the inner temple space - the walls, columns, panels above the acres of the three naves.
The prominent representative of the Bansko Art School Dimitar Molerov works on the decoration of the church.
