10 Best place to visit in Penne Italy

Italy's best kept secret, Abruzzo

I wanted to show you a special place in my heart in Italy, that not many tourists from North America let alone anywhere really venture off to, the region of Abruzzo. The region of Abruzzo is truly undiscovered and I hope this video sheds some light on it as it really deserves to get far more recognition as a place to visit in Italy.

This film will show you the many incredible things about the region of Abruzzo, from the incredible local delicacies like Arrosticini, a staple of the region, to trying some good albeit very strange food on a Trabboci on the coast of the Adriatic and tasting some of the local Montepulciano wines.

Called the green lung of Italy, most of Abruzzo is covered in National Parks and they are some of the most incredible you will ever see! Besides exploring the many national parks at your disposal, another one of my favourite things to do in Abruzzo is explore the many mediavel villages, with such untouched beauty that you feel as though you've stepped back in time.

I hope that you enjoy this video and make sure to LIKE the video, it really does make a huge difference and SUBSCRIBE!

Exploring remote villages in Abruzzo Italy(Italy Vlog)

In today's video I am going to take you through a day in the life in Italy, as we explore two beautiful Italian villages in the region of Abruzzo. The first being Loreto Aprutino and the second village being Penne.

I wanted to make this video to show you what it's like to be in the non touristy side of Italy, where most of the population doesn't speak english and there are little to no tourist to be seen. This is one of my favourite ways to explore new countries as you get a far more authentic experience than going to the highly touristy areas.

There is so much more to offer in Italy and especially I wanted to show how beautiful the region of Abruzzo is because I often get people saying that they haven't even heard of Abruzzo in the first place.

Abruzzo is a region of Southern Italy with an area of 10,763 square km (4,156 sq mi) and a population of 1.3 million. It is divided into four provinces: L'Aquila, Teramo, Pescara, and Chieti. Its western border lies 80 km (50 mi) east of Rome. Abruzzo borders the region of Marche to the north, Lazio to the west and north-west, Molise to the south and the Adriatic Sea to the east. Geographically, Abruzzo is divided into a mountainous area in the west, which includes the highest massifs of the Apennines, such as the Gran Sasso d'Italia and the Maiella, and a coastal area in the east with beaches on the Adriatic Sea.

Abruzzo is considered a region of Southern Italy in terms of its culture, language, history, and economy, though in terms of physical geography it may also be considered part of Central Italy. The Italian Statistical Authority (ISTAT) also deems it to be part of Southern Italy, partly because of Abruzzo's historic association with the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.

Almost half of the region's territory is protected through national parks and nature reserves, more than any administrative region on the continent, leading it to be dubbed the greenest region in Europe. There are three national parks, one regional park, and 38 protected nature reserves. These ensure the survival of rare species, such as the golden eagle, the Abruzzo (or Abruzzese) chamois, the Apennine wolf and the Marsican brown bear. Abruzzo's parks and reserves host 75% of Europe's animal species. The region is also home to Calderone, one of Europe's southernmost glaciers.

Nineteenth-century Italian diplomat and journalist Primo Levi (1853–1917) chose the adjectives forte e gentile (strong and kind) to capture what he saw as the character of the region and its people. Forte e gentile has since become the motto of the region.

Places to see in ( Follonica - Italy )

Places to see in ( Follonica - Italy )

Along the glittering Gulf of Follonica is the city that is referred to as the Miami of the Maremma. Fronted by sandy beaches and dotted with sky-rise buildings, it has a certain similarity, but Follonica is more beach resort and less bustle. Laid back and welcoming, it's a town that attracts tourists for its wide sandy beaches that have a Bandiera Blu designation, the green hills inland, and the nature parks nearby. In fact, Follonica may be a busy seafront town, but it's practically surrounded by nature preserves, with the Riserva Naturale Scarlino to the south, the Riserva di Padule Orti Bottagone to the north, and the Riserva Poggio Tre to the east. That gives visitors the best of beach life as well as nature.

The town has a history that dates back to the Etruscans; the remains of the Castello di Villi perched on the high point above town dates to 884. But Follonica is mostly a modern city with lots of life. It is said that the name derives from fulloni - in reference to the bellows used in the foundries. It was the iron industry that spurred economic and population growth of Follonica, thanks to the initiatives of Leopoldo II, one of the last grand-dukes of Tuscany, with ties to the Bourbon dynasty. He took advantage of the metallic hills of the Maremma for mining and planted the Royal and Imperial Foundries in Follonica, which at one time was the second most important point in Europe for the trade.

Fine examples of cast iron can be seen around town as a result. Look for intricate designs on the Church of San Leopoldo (humbly dedicated to the city's patron by himself!), the lovely gate known as Cancello Ex Ilva, the Palazzo Granducale, which was the beautiful Liberty-style villa of Leopoldo, and the summit of the Torre del Orologio (clock tower). There is also a museum, the Museo del Ferro, dedicated to the history and working of the precious metal here, housed in a former factory.

Art lovers won't want to miss the picture gallery, Pinacoteca Amedeo Modigliani, dedicated to Italy's premier contemporary artist who was from nearby Livorno, with works by Picasso, Dali', Sabatelli, and more. Walk along the seafront promenade starting in Piazza al Mare, where you'll find loads of gelato shops, then stroll along to see the Liberty style villas that face the sea. For a great beach, head to Torre Mozza, where you can swim in the shadow of a Saracen watch tower. North of the city center, the beaches are backed by shady umbrella pine trees.

Follonica has an abundance of restaurants, shops, groceries and discos, and are used to giving tourists a warm welcome. It is near Scarlino and other hill towns scattered inland. Grosseto, Massa Marittima and Livorno are nearby, as well. Follonica is a tourist site during the summer, mostly visited by the Italians themselves. The city has been awarded the Bandiera Blu (Blue Flag) every year from 2000 to 2007 for the cleanliness of its beaches and seawater.

Alot to see in Follonica such as :

Church of San Leopoldo, built by will of duke Leopold II of Tuscany starting from 1836
Castle of Valli, built in the 8th century as residence of the bishops of Lucca; later it was owned by the Aldobrandeschi who, in the 13th century, sold it to the Republic of Pisa. In the 14th century it was a fortress of the Principality of Piombino until, in 1815, it became part of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
Pievaccia, remains of a large fortified medieval monastery.

( Follonica - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Follonica . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Follonica - Italy

Where to find the best pasta in Rome

Looking for the best restaurants in Rome for pasta ? Here are our top choices

Penne, Abruzzo, Italia

Places to see in ( Vasto - Italy )

Places to see in ( Vasto - Italy )

On Abruzzo's southern coast, the hilltop town of Vasto has an atmospheric medieval quarter and superb sea views. Much of the centro storico (historic centre) dates from the 15th century, a period in which the city was known as 'the Athens of the Abruzzi'; it's also distinguished as the birthplace of the poet Gabriele Rossetti. Two kilometres downhill is the blowzy resort of Vasto Marina, a strip of hotels, restaurants and campgrounds fronting a long sandy beach. About 5km north of town along the coast is the beautiful Spiaggia di Punta Penna and the Riserva Naturale di Punta Aderci.

In summer the action is on the beach at Vasto Marina. In the old town, interest revolves around the small historic centre, with its landmark Castello Caldoresco, located on Piazza Rossetti, and the low-key Romanesque Cattedrale di San Giuseppe. The Renaissance Palazzo d'Avalos hosts four museums, including the Museo Archeologico. The first thing you will appreciate on arriving in Vasto are the beautiful panoramic views over the Adriatic sea, over the lovely golden beaches and towards the Punta della Penne harbour and lighthouse.

Above the sea, on a hillside, Vasto has a charming medieval old centre whose centre is the marvellous Piazza Rossetti with the impressive Caldoresco Castle. The original parts of the castle date back to the 14th and 15th centuries. The Palazzo d'Avalos is another key sight. You can visit the palace as it is now home to the Museo Civico Archaeologica. Be sure to also visit its pretty Neapolitan-style garden. Not far away is the Cattedrale di San Giuseppe which has a simple Romanesque facade. The rest is newer as it was rebuilt following destruction during a Turkish raid in the 16th century.

Wandering through the narrow alleyways is a pleasure (and offers some relief from the hot sun) and reveals many churches and mansions and also various Roman excavations. After exploring the old centre head for the beach. It is about a 15 to 20 minutes walk downhill from the ancient centre of Vasto and is a welcome spot to cool off in the gorgeous turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea.

On the coast the Vasto Marina is a popular holiday destination and has lots of hotels and camp sites along the edge of the beach. This is a nice spot to enjoy lunch or to have the almost obligatory afternoon ice-cream. Whilst thronging with people in July and August the marina and beaches are fairly deserted outside of the main season.

Further along the coast is the promontory of the 'Punta d'Erca also known as the Punta Aderci, a beautiful, unspoilt area of rocky coastline popular with divers. The area is a protected nature reserve. You can see the wonderful 'trabocchi' here. These are traditional fishing platforms used for fish and prawn fishing along the coast. Outside of the main season you can enjoy the coastline and trabocchi and barely see another person.

The old part of the town (centro storico) features a number of buildings and churches dating from the 12th-18th centuries, including:

Vasto Cathedral (Cattedrale di San Giuseppe)
Church of Santa Maria Maggiore (it), the largest and oldest (mentioned in a document as early as 1195) church in the town, with a quite tall bell tower. Damaged by the Turks in 1566, and by a fire in 1645, it received a thorough restructuring in 1735 in which it got the current shape. It hosts one of alleged Jesus' crown of thorns (Sacra Spina).
Castello Caldoresco
D'Avalos Palace (Palazzo D'Avalos) and the Musei Civici
Below the hill on which the town is located, the beach resort town of Marina di Vasto offers a large sandy beach and several hotels and other facilities.

( Vasto - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Vasto . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Vasto - Italy
