Pedara sorge sulle colline meridionali dell'Etna, evolvendosi socialmente e demograficamente nei secoli attorno agli antichi crateri di monte Difeso e monte Troina. Non si possiedono notizie certe sulle sue origini perché le numerose colate laviche ne hanno quasi del tutto cancellato le tracce.
Durante la stagione estiva è luogo di villeggiatura per il clima più fresco rispetto a Catania dovuto alla quota altimetrica. Nella parte più a nord si trova l'antico borgo rurale della Tarderia, immerso in un'ampia estensione di castagneti con flora montana ed essenze arboree alpine. Da Pedara si raggiunge facilmente l'Etna (circa 15 km.). Lungo la strada provinciale per l'Etna la fossa del Salto del Cane, un antico cratere spento con area attrezzata (Punto Base per l'Escursionismo del Parco dell'Etna).
Pedara rises on the southern hills of Etna, evolving socially and demographically over the centuries around the ancient craters of mount Difeso and mount Troina. There is no certain information on its origins because the numerous lava flows have almost completely erased its traces.
During the summer season it is a holiday resort due to the cooler climate than in Catania due to the altitude. In the northern part there is the ancient rural village of Tarderia, immersed in a wide extension of chestnut groves with mountain flora and alpine tree species. From Pedara you can easily reach Etna (about 15 km.). Along the provincial road to Etna, the pit of the Salto del Cane, an ancient extinct crater with equipped area (Base Point for Hiking in the Etna Park).

Mascalucia is an Italian municipality, located in the northern part of the Metropolitan City of Catania, and is physically inserted in the Catania hinterland, of which it represents one of the first crown municipalities. Due to its position, it is located in the southern Etna area, and from a morphological point of view, its territory is hilly on the coast, and its average altitude is 420 m a.s.l., which varies from a minimum altitude of 330 m a.s.l. in its lower part, at a maximum altitude of 680 m a.s.l., in the upper part.

Video from our holidaytrip by car through Sicily in may/june 2013. See the playlist of all parts: From day 10-12 we travelled from Piazza Armerina to Nicolosi, for visiting Mount Etna the most nearby town on the South side of the Etna. We stayed at the Etna Hut, a comfortable hotel with a view in Nicolosi. The owner provided us with the right information for visiting Mount Etna. We went by car to the cable-station, that brought us half way. From there on we took a truck to reach the top, where a guide was waiting. Beautiful scenery, used as background for movies like Star Wars. On the top it was windy and cold. The snow smelled like sulphuric acid.From mount Etna we went to nearby villages en further on to Taormina on our way down south to Avola. Filmed with Panasonic SD900

Catania is the second largest municipality in Sicily, after Palermo, both by area and by population. Despite its reputation as the second city of the island, Catania is the largest Sicilian conurbation,[citation needed] among the largest in Italy, as evidenced also by the presence of important road and rail transport infrastructures as well as by the main airport in Sicily, fifth in Italy. It is located on Sicily's east coast, at the base of the active volcano, Mount Etna, and it faces the Ionian Sea. It is the capital of the 58-municipality region known as the Metropolitan City of Catania, which is the seventh-largest metropolitan city in Italy. The population of the city proper is 311,584, while the population of the Metropolitan City of Catania is 1,107,702.
Catania was founded in the 8th century BC by Chalcidian Greeks in Magna Graecia. The city has weathered multiple geologic catastrophes: it was almost completely destroyed by a catastrophic earthquake in 1169. A major eruption and lava flow from nearby Mount Etna nearly swamped the city in 1669 and it suffered severe devastation from the 1693 Sicily earthquake.
During the 14th century, and into the Renaissance period, Catania was one of Italy's most important cultural, artistic and political centres. It was the site of Sicily's first university, founded in 1434. It has been the native or adopted home of some of Italy's most famous artists and writers, including the composers Vincenzo Bellini and Giovanni Pacini, and the writers Giovanni Verga, Luigi Capuana, Federico De Roberto and Nino Martoglio.
Catania today is the industrial, logistical, and commercial center of Sicily. Its airport, the Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, is the largest in Southern Italy. The central old town of Catania features exuberant late-baroque architecture, prompted after the 1693 earthquake, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Ciao, in attesa che mi sarà possibile tornare a pescare per condividere con voi le mie avventure e catture, ho deciso di portarvi a spasso con me, insieme alle mie fidate videocamere vi porto all'interno di una bocca vulcanica dell'Etna ormai spenta da 800 anni ( circa ).
Il cratere in questione si trova nel Comune di Pedara, in provincia di Catania ed è possibile visitarlo, percorrendo i sentieri che circondano la bocca.
Il percorso naturalistico è abitato da animali di diverso tipo, le più spettacolari sono i falchi, che ahimè, non mi sono venuti a fare compagnia nonostante siano abituati alla presenza dell'uomo. Sarà per la prossima volta.
