Places to see in ( Acireale - Italy )

Places to see in ( Acireale - Italy )

Acireale is a coastal city and comune in the north-east of the Metropolitan City of Catania, Sicily, southern Italy, at the foot of Mount Etna, on the coast facing the Ionian Sea. It is home to numerous churches, including the Neo-Gothic St. Peter's Basilica, St. Sebastian's Basilica in the Sicilian Baroque style, and the 17th century Acireale Cathedral, and a seminary, for the training of priests. Acireale is also noted for its art and paintings: the oldest academy in Sicily, the Accademia dei Dafnici e degli Zelanti, is located here.

In the 16th century, Emperor Charles V freed the city from feudal ties, creating it as a Crown commune. In the late 16th century, the town had between 6,000 and 7,000 inhabitants. The most ancient document mentioning the Carnival of Acireale dates to 1594. The town expanded its role as a trade center (it was granted the right to hold a Free Market or Fiera Franca) and received numerous new edifices.

Acireale was nearly destroyed by an earthquake in 1693, which substantially halted its economic growth. During the Expedition of the Thousand (1861), which freed Sicily from the Kingdom of Naples, Acireale was the first town to rebel against the Bourbons. In 1941, it was bombed by the Allies, resulting in many civilian casualties.

The church of San Biagio in Acireale contains some of the relics of the Venerable Gabriele Allegra, who had entered the Franciscan seminary in 1918. Villa Belvedere and Parco delle Terme, two large public parks and La Timpa, a beautiful natural reserve overlooking the Ionian Sea, offer great nature sights. Piazza Duomo, with its St. Peter's Basilica, is in the main square of the city. There are many beautiful historic Baroque buildings in town, such as Palazzo Pennisi and Palazzo Modò, which date from the 17th century, and Palazzo Musmeci dating from the 18th century. The commercial city center is primarily located in the streets including and adjacent to Corso Umberto and Corso Italia, which are the city's principal thoroughfares. The Fortezza del Tocco, a 16th-century fort, has been converted to a nature reserve.

( Acireale - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Acireale . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Acireale - Italy

TOP 3 Circular HIKES in the DOLOMITES Italy

Download the GPX tracks of the hikes!

If you want to support the channel and my adventures :-)

Dolomites are one of my favourite mountain areas, and the best way to discover them is HIKING!
In this video I'm giving you 3 advices about circular hikes (or round trips, loops, whatever..) to do in the Dolomites.
NOTE: you need to have experience with hiking to complete these trails.
The difficulty is increasing, the first one is relatively simple (but still 900m elevation gain which is no joke), the second one is intermediate and the third one is VERY HARD. I highly suggest you to split the itinerary in two days and stopping at one of the huts you find on the trail (booking required).

Croda da Lago Circuit:
Starting from the road from Cortina D'Ampezzo and Passo Giau (Ponte Ru Curto), you will follow the wonderful Val Formin till Forcella Rossa, then you will cross the Mondeval Plateau to reach Forcella Ambrizzola, Lago Federa, and back to the parking lot. Amazing views of Pelmo, Antelao, Tofane, Sorapis and Croda da Lago of course.

Tre Cime/Croda dei Toni:
Starting from Val Fiscalina (after Moso, Pustertal) you will turn right at rifugio fondovalle, and after a couple hours you will reach Rifugio Locatelli, in front of the spectacular Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Drei Zinnen). Then you will pass below Monte Paterno and will make it to Rifugio Pian di Cengia, then Rifugio Zsigmondy with an incredible view of Croda dei Toni, and then back to Val Fiscalina.

Monte Civetta Circuit:
Starting from Palafavera, Val di Zoldo, You will reach Malga Pioda and then Rifugio Coldai. You will turn left and follow the amazing Sentiero Tivan, with Civetta on your right and Val di Zoldo (amazing Pelmo) on the left. The trail goes up to Forcella delle Sasse, and then goes down till Rifugio Vazzoler. You will keep hiking around Civetta and you will make it to Rifugio Tissi. Spectacular spot to spend the night. Then following the Western face of civetta you will reach Lago Coldai and then finish the loop hiking back down to Palafavera.

TOP 5 EASY PEAKS in the DOLOMITES - Hiking Tips

Download the GPX tracks of the hikes!

If you want to support the channel and my adventures :-)

Dolomites are one of my favourite mountain areas, and the best way to discover them is HIKING!
In this video I'm showing you 5 easy tops in the Dolomites.

NOTE: you still need to have a bit of experience with hiking to achieve these peaks
Also, some of these hikes have some easy parts of via ferrata. I personally didn't use climbing kit in these cases, but consider doing it if you feel like you want to be safer.

Col De La Puina:
After passing the beautiful Passo Staulanza, you'll keep driving down for a couple kilometers to reach a wide parking spot on your right. You will follow a wide gravel road in the forest, that will quickly take you to Rifugio Città di Fiume. From here, you'll keep going up, and you'll turn right to follow a grassy ridgeline. The last part is quite steep, but you will quickly make it to the first top, and after that, to the highest one.

Gran Cir:
The hike start from one of the Most Popular mountain passes in the Dolomites, Passo Gardena. From here, you will follow the trail number 2 that rises crossing many ski slopes.
You are getting closer to the rocks, and you will hike all the way up a rocky culoir.
From here, a very easy iron rope will guide you on a wide ledge. This part requires a bit of attention but it's technically very easy. You will soon reach the upper part of the peak, and a trail with some other easy parts of via ferrata will lead you to the top!

Croda Negra:
From the Parking lot of Passo Falzarego, you'll start following the trail number 441 that takes to Rifugio Nuvolau. After 15minutes, you will turn right following the trail number 442.
At one point, you will find a 2m high rocky passage. it's technically super easy and not exposed.
After that, you will find yourself on the higher part of this big rocky hill, and you'll just follow the ridge. In 1 and half hour you will be on top, and you'll be able to admire the huge group of tofane in front of you, cinque torri in the valley, and so many other layers of mountains.

Monte Cernera:
The hike starts from the famous Passo Giau.
You'll start hiking the trail n436, which will give you wonderful views of your final destination.
At one point, the path splits. On the left, Forcella Giau. On the Right, MONTE CERNERA.
you will follow a beautiful traverse with an amazing view towards Passo Giau and Tofane.
Now the most technical part of the strail starts. You will follow a very easy iron rope that will take you to an upper plateau. After a second short technical part, you will arrive very close to the summit!

Monte Coldai:
The hike starts from Palafavera, Val di Zoldo, just like the huge round trip that I showed you in the previous video. You'll start following a wide gravel road. In 30minutes you will be at Malga Pioda, and the path will get more narrow and steep. You will reach Rifugio coldai and you'll quickly make it to sella coldai, right over a wonderful little lake. Your goal is the top right over the lake, opposite to civetta. So you'll turn right and will follow the trail that will quickly take you to the top!

The Castle of the Baroness of Poira - Paternò - Sicily to Discover - Trekking in Sicily

We are in Sicily, in the hinterland of Paternò, in the province of Catania. The ruins of the Castle of the Baroness of Poira rise on a spectacular hill overlooking a vast hilly area characterized by barren gullies and wide valleys. The area, sparsely populated, is very suggestive, immersed as it is in the silence of its boundless spaces. The Simeto, the longest river in Sicily, is not far away. Etna, to the north, looms majestically.

The castle of Poira is actually not a real castle but an ancient fortified farm, built on previous buildings of probable medieval origin or perhaps even more ancient, as evidenced by the archaeological excavations that have brought to light a Greek necropolis and Roman structures .
The remains of the defensive walls, the cisterns, the ancient chapel have the desolate charm of abandonment and history that here borders on the crime story. In fact, at the end of the nineteenth century the place was the scene of an assault by a band of brigands from distant (for the time!) Palermo. The criminals entered the fortress thanks to the complicity of the baron’s campiere and kidnapped the Baron and his family inside for a whole day. It is estimated that the loot of the raid was very rich (around one million euros today). But the story does not end with the escape of the bandits. All the members of the gang, except one, were in fact exterminated in an ambush in the mountains of Palermo shortly after. The action was attributed to a rival group but it is believed that the principal was the Baron himself with the connivance of the Bourbon government.

Beyond the history, the place is certainly worth a visit. It is a piece of authentic Sicily, far from the most famous tourist destinations and little known even by the locals. Its scenic beauty makes it perfect for a day outdoors, preferably in Autumn or Spring when Nature gives its best. To reach the Castle you have to take the road that connects Paternò to Centuripe, leaving it at the old roadman's house and following a branch that climbs towards the hills. The road is not in excellent condition but with a little patience and prudence you can reach the district called Poira.

Shot in 2019 with an Olympus OM-D EM5 MKII and a Mavic air, this short video was edited using I-Movie. The photos are by Francesca Sparatore who at the time used a Nikon D3100.
The song “Fallen Warrior” is by Jeff Broadbent, licensed under Audio Hero.

Places to see in ( Catania - Italy ) Giardino Bellini

Places to see in ( Catania - Italy ) Giardino Bellini

The Giardino Bellini is the oldest urban park of Catania. It occupies 70.942 m². Before the construction of a public garden, the area was occupied by a botanical maze owned by the Ignazio Paternò Castello, prince of Biscari.

In 1854, the Comune di Catania bought the area of the maze, and in 1864 started to adapt the area into a public garden. The Giardino Bellini was finally inaugurated in 1883.

Starting from 1875, the municipality acquired several further areas surrounding the maze, and two years later the work to unify these areas was undertaken.
