10 Best place to visit in Pangai Tonga

No One Goes to Tonga for a Tropical Vacation - Why Not?

Tonga doesn't receive much tourism these days, but we found a convenient and affordable island resort named Big Mama's (Pangaimotu Island) right off the main island. It's a cheap tropical island destination that is honestly underrated!

For $25 USD, they will ferry you over to the island, feed you lunch, and ferry you back. While on the island, you can snorkel/dive around massive shipwrecks, go for swims in calm waters, tan on the sun deck, play volleyball, lounge in a hammock - basically all the tropical island type of activities that anyone would want to do.

On top of that, they have drinks, of course, which is always a great addition!

Tonga Travels Ha'apai: Walk Around Town (Pangai) in Ha'apai

Took a break from the remote island and check what's with Ha'apai's main island town.

Tonga: Pangaimotu Island

We spent a lovely day on a beautiful Island called Pangaimotu Island. It is a 10-15 minute boat ride from Niku A'lofa in Tonga and I would recommend anyone to take the $45 pa'anga trip over.
That price includes a nice lunch too.
The Island was practically ours when we were there - not many other folk on it. Beautiful sand, sea, and a fun wreck to snorkel around. The restaurant bar is cool and the drinks prices were reasonable. The staff were also very friendly and there was a cool dog that acted as our tour guide when we walked around the island. Every now and then he would run off into the water to try and catch fish.
This was one of the highlights of our trip and I could have spent a couple of days on this beautiful spot of paradise.

Vava'u, Tonga Overview and Culture

From the Global Village Travel Guide and DVD, Islands of the South Pacific. Stock footage available from
Transcript:
112 klms' north of TongaTapu is the VAVA'U Group.
This set of 34 raised limestone isles, has a tremendous
coastline with gorgeous white sand beaches and lots of
hideaways to explore.
The Tongans were visited by a great many Pacific explorers
and were a popular port of call. Captain Cook called them the
friendly isles.
The town of Neiafu is a bustling marketplace
on weekdays and Saturdays.
But never on Sunday!

It is actually against the law for a Tongan to engage in business
of any kind on Sunday -- a prohibition laid down by the Christian
missionaries who were among the first Westerners to settle here.
Dancing and singing were such a strong element in Polynesian
life that when Christianity denied them these forms of expression
they redirected their energy to embrace Christian hymns.

They were EVERYWHERE! | Backpacking Tonga Days 1 & 2

Backpacking Tonga Days 1 & 2.

Day one was pretty much exclusively a travel day, as we got into Nuku'alofa at about 930PM, and went to bed pretty soon after we arrived at our accommodation. We flew out early the next morning to Ha'apai, and spent the rest of the day exploring the island of Lifuka and the town of Pangai. We had a delicious lunch at Ha'apai Delight Cafe, and then took an adventure down a dirt road in hopes of getting to the tip of the island! However, our trip was interrupted by some 8 legged freaks...Then we had oreos and ritz for dinner!!
