Lithuania is a lively and interesting country that has changed quickly since it broke away from the Soviet Union in 1990. You'll find a lively nightlife in Vilnius and on the coast, a lot of space for outdoor activities in the national parks that haven't been spoiled yet, and a number of good beaches.
There's also a big difference between life in the city and poverty in the countryside. Lithuanians are fiercely proud of their country. They are also more outgoing and friendly than their Baltic neighbors, and you are likely to meet them everywhere.
Where to go in Lithuania?
Lithuania is small, so getting around is cheap. Even in popular tourist spots, there aren't many people, so you get the feeling that there's still a lot to discover here. Vilnius, with its Baroque Old Town, is the most beautiful Baltic capital in terms of architecture, and it also has a lively nightlife. Kaunas, the second largest city, also has a beautiful center, a few interesting museums, and some great restaurants and bars.
The port city of Klaipda is a good place to stay the night on the way to the resorts of Neringa (the Curonian Spit), a unique strip of sand dunes and forest that protects Lithuania from the Baltic Sea, or to Palanga, Lithuania's party town, where everyone goes in the summer to have fun.

Palanga, Lithuania (Lietuva) City Walk, End Of Summer 4k
Palanga is a seaside resort town in western Lithuania, on the shore of the Baltic Sea.
It is the busiest summer resort in Lithuania and has beaches of sand (18 km, 11 miles long and up to 300 metres, 1000 ft wide) and sand dunes.
In the summer, a multitude of tourists stay in Palanga, both for its beaches and to enjoy the maritime atmosphere. There is a carnival centered on Jonas Basanavičius Street, which is a pedestrian-only thoroughfare during the high season. There are dozens of restaurants, bars, rides, and other forms of entertainment.
The aforementioned Palanga Amber Museum is open to the public, as are as the museum's extensive botanical gardens. Anaičiai Ethnographic Cemetery holds a collection of 19th- and early 20th-century graves. In the Sculptures Garden, one can find 28 contemporary Art statues by artists from Armenia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine.
Also found in Palanga is one of the oldest operating pharmacies in Lithuania. It was established in the mid-19th century.

This is a short video about our family visit to Palanga and Klaipėda, Lithuania.

The long road backpacking to Ukraine has brought me to Klaipeda, in Lithuania. I am using the attractive town as a base for a short time.... not least because of the excellent Klaipeda Hostel.
Living the past 20 years out of a backpack means learning how best to prepare for the day, in order to keep the body in reasonable shape for purpose !

Transport costs can take a large chunk of your budget, but that needn't be the case. It just takes a little bit of planning ahead to save money that can be spent elsewhere, or on a future trip.
Over the next several videos i shall be travelling through the Baltic countries and Poland before reaching and hopefully, crossing a border with Ukraine... and from there, the journey will continue....
