Mauritius Vacation Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations
The little island, lying in the center of the Indian Ocean is a real tropical paradise. Along the white sand beaches, shaded by coconut palm trees there are many luxury hotels. We can take excursions to the nearby islands, or take a dive in the turquoise blue water. In the center of the island, on the top of a vulcanic plateau, emerald green sugar cane plantations can be found. On the Domaine Les Pailles estate we can have a glimpse at how rum and sugar are produced from sugar cane. We can try the Indian dishes and take a look at the colorful Hindu temple. We might enjoy the Sega dance and taste the teas from the Bois Cheri plantation. We might also take a Jeep Tour through the Black River National Park and take a look at the marvellous waterfall of Chamarel, while in the zoo the famous pink pigeon and the golden bat can be found. In the city there is the Blue Penny Museum and one of the worlds most beautiful tropical parks, the Pamplemousses Botanic Garden to visit.

We do a great trip to the South of Mauritius. A must-do trip and best if you can do it on your last day as a trip to the airport. Starting with tea at Bois Cheri, a visit to Grand Bassin or Ganga Talao temple, then off to natural stuff with waterfalls and views and end up eating traditional Mauritian food at Palais de Barbizon. Add this one to your bucket list for sure.

A walk in Domaine Les Pailles under the downpour ⛈️
This is a lifetime moment for a Dubai-dweller - to experience the rainfall surrounded by greenery. Amazing views of the waterfalls and rivulets brought about by the downpour!
You can walk freely in Domaine Les Pailles and there are nice spots for taking pictures, such as a red British phone booth (unexpected!), mountain ranges as background, and a bridge that gains life once the river gets filled.
Be careful of bugs waking up!

I was quite happy to have my drone with me which allowed me to mix work with sharing this beautiful place with you.
The Clos St Louis is one of the restaurants of the Domaine Les Pailles Mauritius. The food served there is mainly Mauritian and French cuisine.
We were lucky enough to be there on a magnificent day with a clear sky, it was just the perfect day.
This beautiful colonial house stands proudly in a very well maintained and wide garden.
From the veranda there is a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains.
I can just imagine going round and round in front of that house on a bicycle as a child!

This is the first video of a series of upcoming short films, that I will post. I used the DJI Mavic mini to record these footages. We visited a few islands on the northern coast of Mauritius
Gabriel Island is part of a group of small islands known as the Northern Islands or Coin de Mire islands. It is situated about 20 kilometers north of Mauritius and is accessible by boat or catamaran.
The sailing time from Grand Baie to Gabriel Island is 1.5 hours or faster by speedboats. On the way you will sail along Coin de Mire Island with its colony of “Pailles en Queue” Birds, before reaching Gabriel Island.
The island is surrounded by crystal-clear waters and boasts some of the best snorkeling and diving spots in Mauritius. Visitors can see a wide variety of marine life, including colorful fish, coral reefs, and even sea turtles.
It is also a popular destination for day trips and picnics. The island has several white sandy beaches, shaded picnic areas, and walking trails that offer stunning views of the surrounding ocean.
Best time to visit ? All year long.

La Vallee Des Couleurs Nature Park
La Vallée Des Couleurs Nature Park is operational since 4th of July 1998 and is actively engaged in the business of eco-tourism. The discovery of the 23 colored earth in the late 90’s, displayed in bands and domes within the domain, constitutes a unique geological feature in this part of the world. This feature, the very signature of La Vallée Des Couleurs Nature Park is a major landmark in the continuous development of the tourism industry of Mauritius.
The fascinating attractions of the Nature Park, spreads over some 450 acres of land and revolves around the indigenous fauna and flora that abound in the park. The range of natural landscapes, with its plateaus, plains, mountains, valleys, waterfalls, pools and ponds, unfolding inside this green amphitheater provides an unforgettable experience for visitors. The geology museum, unique in the Mascarene Islands, has a rich collection of artifacts that trace the geological history of Mauritius and that of La Vallée Des Couleurs Nature Park.
The natural waterfalls cascading in musical tunes into wide plunge pools of limpid waters provide a sense of peace and harmony with nature. Over the past years, La Vallée Des Couleurs Nature Park has become an irresistible destination for both Mauritian and overseas visitors. The Nature Park continues to develop a variety of activities in line with its central theme as a nature park with a view to making it the most attractive destination in Mauritius.

Domaine Anna Mauritius a real destination restaurant
Arriving at Domaine Anna restaurant you would be forgiven for thinking you had arrived at the old Anna sugar mill, only refurbed to the highest standard. The dining areas are breathtaking with tons of places to explore, fish-filled ponds, beautiful walkways, tortoises, a well-appointed nursery and even a grotto with an Amazonian giant fish called an arapaima. This is destination dining at its best.
We weren't sure if we were allowed to explore the place, so we started off quietly and jumped to the wrong conclusion that it was in fact the restored Anna sugar mill. We later found out that it was built from the ground up and guests are welcome to explore.
The entrance to the restaurant has a huge baobab tree nestled in one of the areas, near some fish tanks. The archways lead you through into the main dining area, still not sure of our situation, we carefully avoided people and filmed some of the dining areas over the lake. The tables have views down to the water where you can see happy huge koi swimming around. I guess bits of food find their way down to their open mouths.
I found a huge wooden plow, well technically it is on display for all to see, but I did say wooden plow a lot. Slightly around the lake, you get the best views of the dining islands. It is simply spectacular and something that should be seen. Each dining table is set on its own island under a gazebo, creating a magical effect.
Then we found the grotto, with its beautiful arapaima, an Amazonian monster fish. We spent a long time marveling at this beauty. The ponds around him are clear, so the beautifully patterned koi are really easy to see, and there are some prize specimens. We had a quick look at the events room with its balcony overlooking a huge reservoir, the perfect location for weddings, functions, or a great party.
Next to it was a small bar area, with gnarly wood furniture that looks like it was carved out of a tree, but they were surprisingly comfortable. The entrance is lined with stone arches and hides an old Creole house with more stunning wood tables and an old bed on wheels.
We found ourselves at Hide Out Garden, a nursery with every plant I could imagine. Valerie, the owner was our guide for the rest of the visit. She was super knowledgeable and helped us identify all the plants, and there were a lot of plants. She offered us a drink, something called noni juice. I was not a big fan, but Riki found it quite nice. Each to their own taste I guess, oh and it is super healthy.
We stopped off at the tortoises which enjoy the noni fruit, so we fed it to them and me. Again I'm not a big fan of the pure fruit either. While with Valerie we discovered that Domaine Anna has a huge farm-to-table fresh vegetable garden, fantastic.
Domaine Anna is one of the places in Mauritius that has to be visited. It would make the perfect day out, have a great lunch, walk it off exploring the gardens and then pick up some exotic, or normal plants.
