(Legendas disponíveis) O castelo de Ourém é uma das mais inovadoras obras de arquitectura militar do séc. XV em Portugal. Mandado construir pelo Conde de Ourém, neto de D. Nuno Álvares Pereira, o castelo possui uma estrutura compacta com sistemas de defesa activos modernos, incluindo duas grandes torres de planta pentagonal que funcionam como baluartes e ofereciam maior resistência ao tiro de bombarda.
Atrás das torres situa-se a zona palaciana, residência dos Condes, que tem a forma de uma longa torre disposta no sentido da largura comunicando com os baluartes.
No cimo do monte, recuado relativamente ao paço e ao castelo, encontra-se o primitivo castelo de “Abdegas”, nome antigo desta povoação, cuja construção remonta ao séc. XII.
