MAZOWSZE [4K] – MAGNUSZEW (#4 autorski przewodnik po zabytkach i atrakcjach)

MAGNUSZEW – KOŚCIÓŁ ŚW. JANA CHRZCICIELA

Magnuszew był gniazdem rodu Magnuszewskich herbu Ogończyk, a potem własnością Potockich i Zamoyskich. Właściciel wsi Świętosław uzyskał w 1377 prawa miejskie od Siemowita III, księcia mazowieckiego, później kilkakrotnie potwierdzane. Rozwój sąsiedniej Warki spowodował upadek Magnuszewa, który ok. 1576 utracił prawa miejskie. Dopiero kolejny właściciel Andrzej Zamojski, kanclerz wielki koronny uzyskał w 1774 odnowienie praw miejskich od Stanisława Augusta Poniatowskiego. W 1778 pożar zniszczył miasto. Odbudowano je w pierwszej połowie XIX w. staraniem Stanisława Zamojskiego, który rozwijał tu rzemiosło. W 1869 utracił prawa miejskie. Kościół pierwotny powstał przed 1378, w tym czasie erygowano też parafię. Kościół spłonął w 1655. Kolejny drewniany wybudowano w 1758, ale dwadzieścia lat później i ten został spalony. Obecny kościół pw. św. Jana Chrzciciela, według projektu arch. Joachima Hempla, fundacji Konstancji z Czartoryskich Zamojskiej, wzniesiony został w latach 1786–1787. Konsekrował go w 1821 bp. Adam Prosper Burzyński. Po zniszczeniach I wojny światowej został odnowiony staraniem ks. Tomasza Krauzera. W latach 1972–1975 był gruntownie restaurowany staraniem ks. Jana Rogusia. Jest świątynią orientowaną, późnobarokową, wybudowaną z cegły palonej.

Trip to POLAND | Part 1

Kraków, a southern Poland city near the border of the Czech Republic, is known for its well-preserved medieval core and Jewish quarter. Its old town – ringed by Planty Park and remnants of the city’s medieval walls – is centered on the stately, expansive Rynek Glówny (market square). This plaza is the site of the Cloth Hall, a Renaissance-era trading outpost, and St. Mary’s Basilica, a 14th-century Gothic church.

Kraków written in English as Krakow and traditionally known as Cracow, is the second-largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. Situated on the Vistula River in Lesser Poland Province, the city dates back to the 7th century.[5] Kraków was the official capital of Poland until 1596[6] and has traditionally been one of the leading centres of Polish academic, economic, cultural and artistic life. Cited as one of Europe's most beautiful cities,[7] its Old Town was declared the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in the world.

The city has grown from a Stone Age settlement to Poland's second-most-important city. It began as a hamlet on Wawel Hill and was reported as a busy trading centre of Central Europe in 965.[5] With the establishment of new universities and cultural venues at the emergence of the Second Polish Republic in 1918 and throughout the 20th century, Kraków reaffirmed its role as a major national academic and artistic centre. The city has a population of about 780,000, with approximately 8 million additional people living within a 100 km (62 mi) radius of its main square.[8]

After the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany at the start of World War II, the newly defined Distrikt Krakau (Kraków District) became the capital of Germany's General Government. The Jewish population of the city was forced into a walled zone known as the Kraków Ghetto, from which they were sent to German extermination camps such as the nearby Auschwitz, and the Nazi concentration camps like Płaszów.[9] However, the city was spared from destruction and major bombing.

In 1978, Karol Wojtyła, archbishop of Kraków, was elevated to the papacy as Pope John Paul II—the first non-Italian pope in 455 years. Also that year, UNESCO approved Kraków's entire Old Town and historic centre as its first World Heritage List alongside Quito.Kraków is classified as a global city with the ranking of high sufficiency by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network. Its extensive cultural heritage across the epochs of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture includes the Wawel Cathedral and the Royal Castle on the banks of the Vistula, the St. Mary's Basilica, Saints Peter and Paul Church and the largest medieval market square in Europe, the Rynek Główny.[14] Kraków is home to Jagiellonian University, one of the oldest universities in the world and traditionally Poland's most reputable institution of higher learning.

In 2000, Kraków was named European Capital of Culture. In 2013, Kraków was officially approved as a UNESCO City of Literature. The city hosted the World Youth Day in July 2016.

Kraków's early history begins with evidence of a Stone Age settlement on the present site of the Wawel Hill.[21] A legend attributes Kraków's founding to the mythical ruler Krakus, who built it above a cave occupied by a dragon, Smok Wawelski. The first written record of the city's name dates back to 965, when Kraków was described as a notable commercial centre controlled first by Moravia (876–879), but captured by a Bohemian duke Boleslaus I in 955.[22] The first acclaimed ruler of Poland, Mieszko I, took Kraków from the Bohemians and incorporated it into the holdings of the Piast dynasty towards the end of his reign.

In 1038, Kraków became the seat of the Polish government.By the end of the 10th century, the city was a leading centre of trade.Brick buildings were constructed, including the Royal Wawel Castle with St. Felix and Adaukt Rotunda, Romanesque churches such as St. Adalbert's, a cathedral, and a basilica. The city was sacked and burned during the Mongol invasion of 1241.[25] It was rebuilt practically identical,[26] based on new location act and incorporated in 1257 by the high duke Bolesław V the Chaste who following the example of Wrocław, introduced city rights modelled on the Magdeburg law allowing for tax benefits and new trade privileges for the citizens. In 1259, the city was again ravaged by the Mongols. A third attack in 1287 was repelled thanks in part to the new built fortifications.[28] In 1335, King Casimir III of Poland (Kazimierz in Polish) declared the two western suburbs to be a new city named after him, Kazimierz (Casimiria in Latin). The defensive walls were erected around the central section of Kazimierz in 1362, and a plot was set aside for the Augustinian order next to Skałka.
