4K - ELWOOD BEACH - MELBOURNE - AUSTRALIA- Summer day walk along promenade
This delightful beachside suburb of Elwood is located 8 kilometres from the centre of Melbourne, between St Kilda and Brighton.
There are a number of local shopping strips that can be found in Elwood. The largest is Elwood Village which extends along two main sections of Ormond Road.
There are speciality shops, retailers and eateries which blend in with the surrounding apartment buildings and homes. Along with sections of the grand tree-lined boulevard of Brighton Road, which becomes St Kilda Road and the Nepean Highway, are more retail and service outlets as well as a couple of large historic hotels.
Elwood's beaches are lined with a series of parks and separate paved walking and bicycle tracks. At the northern end of the coast is the Moran Reserve which fronts the rocky shoreline and extends down to the Elwood Canal with its characteristic twin bridges.
Further south is the Point Ormond Reserve, situated on a raised headland. The highest point in the park is known as Point Ormond Hill.
From the top of the hill are exceptional northerly views of the city skyline and bay, while the view south offers a sweeping view along Elwood's sandy beaches and further along to the marina at Brighton. Elwood Park is at the southern end of the beach at Head Street and includes several sports ovals and other recreational facilities.
The area boasts soft golden sands and calm waters and is patrolled by the Elwood Life Saving Club and is ideal for safe and sheltered swimming. There are a couple of kiosks, boating clubs, and a restaurant.

Point Ormond Lookout Melbourne - Spectacular Drone Shot 8k
Point Ormond is an elevated point at the Elwood beach on Port Phillip Bay.It has had an interesting and varied history. Originally called Little Red Bluff, it was named after Captain Ormond who sailed up Port Phillip Bay in 1939. It was St Kilda's first graveyard, a Quarantine Station , and in the 1890's was mined for coal. It now provides excellent walking and great views north to the city of Melbourne. One negative were the graffiti covered and dirty public toilets which detracted from the open space and walking paths.
Point Ormond is a hill that offers great views all around Port Philip Bay. There is a trig tower at the summit and many get their exercise running up and down to it. A playground is nearby and there are some revegetation projects as well.

The beach itself may be the first thing that attracts visitors to the area, and it’s almost a small town in and of itself. No trip is complete without seeing its luscious sands or stopping by its shops or water park.
A visit to the famed Daytona International Speedway is arguably one of the best things to do in Daytona Beach and almost as famous as the beach itself. You can watch a race here or learn about the sport at the Motorsports Museum. If you want to drive on your own, go to Go-Kart City.
If you want an even bigger thrill, try dropping at the restaurant at Skydive DeLand, going on a zipline, or being shot out of the world’s second-largest slingshot.
These high-speed activities aren’t the only way to keep active in Daytona Beach. Try one of its many golfing destinations, including mini-golf courses like Pirate’s Island Adventure Golf and professional courses like LPGA International.
Daytona Beach is also a historic area full of preserved historic buildings such as the Stetson Mansion and Mary McLeod Butane House. Many are considered haunted, especially the Lillian Heritage Center.
The best things to do in Daytona Beach Florida for history and art buffs include visiting any of its educational museums. See a range of exhibits at the MOAS or Museum of Arts and Sciences or go to the Halifax History Museum that focuses on local history.
There are plenty of delicious places to eat in Daytona Beach thanks to the nearby fresh seafood supply. Try some of the best at Crabby Joe’s or Aunt Catfish On the River. Stop by Daytona Diner for a classic meal or go into the Sessions restaurant in the Hard Rock Hotel for a more upbeat, stylish atmosphere.

LIVING IN ORMOND BEACH, FL - RIVERFRONT HOMES
In this week’s episode we are taking a stopover at a waterfront property in Ormond beach, Florida. This 3,000 square foot Florida home overlooks the Halifax River, the view is stunning! Definitely a great place to call home!
Then we are visiting 52 E Granada Blvd, Ormond Beach Florida where an old school barber shop was located called The Men’s Refinery , where they offered more than your average haircut and trim. Additional services included a steamy hot shave, skin care, and waxing all while relaxing in their luxury chairs sipping a local cold beer from Ormond Brewing Company.
*UPDATE: Unfortunately, this local business closed its doors in 2020, we were lucky to have it while it was here.
