Driving in the Netherlands: N392, N380 & N381 from Gorredijk to Oosterwolde
In this video you can ride along on provincial roads N392, N380 & N381 from Gorredijk to Oosterwolde in the Netherlands' Friesland province. In recent years they upgraded a part of the N381 to a 2 x 2 expressway.
The N381 runs from Drachten to Emmen near border with Germany. Although there is demand to upgrade the N381 across its entire length, it has only been upgraded from Drachten to Oosterwolde in recent years partly thanks to a one-time increase in state budget for the Friesland province.

Driving in the Netherlands: Snelwegen A10 E22, A5 & A4 E19 from Amsterdam to Leiden
In this video you can drive along on rijkswegen A10 E22 (Ring Amsterdam West), A5 and A4 E19 from Amsterdam to Leiden. The West of the Netherlands has some of the highest highway densities in Europe with impressive capacity.
We start on the A10 Ring West around Amsterdam, coming from the direction of the A8 (Zaandam). After a few kilometers we merge onto the A5, one of the newer highways in the Netherlands and effectively a bypass of the A10 West in the direction of the A4. The A10 is one of the busiest beltways in the country and needed to be relieved, especially in the West of Amsterdam. Since expansion of the beltway is almost impossible due to space constraints, the A5 was built as a bypass via the Amsterdam port area.
A large part of the A5 is elevated, which is quite unusual for new highways and especially in the Netherlands. It crosses the A9 highway near Airport Schiphol before it joins the A4. The A5 also goes underneath a taxi way of the airport which is pretty cool.
The A4 is one of the busiest highways in the Netherlands, effectively connecting the majority of the Randstad urban area. It's one of the most traffic-prone highways in the Netherlands as it connects the three largest cities. Leiden is just about halfway between Amsterdam and the Hague, respectively the largest and 3rd largest cities of the country.

Bike path from Assen to Oosterwolde in the Netherlands 1

You can travel any distance you like here on paths segregated from traffic. At the beginning the road is on the other side of the canal from the access road which after a short distance turns into a cycle path. This afternoon I cycled the 25 km from Assen to Oosterwolde (part of which is shown in this video) and came back by a different route.
This route follows a main road, but you never have to ride on the road. This is a wonderful place to cycle.

Driving in the Netherlands: N31 Expressway from Leeuwarden to Drachten
In this video you can drive along on the N31 expressway from Leeuwarden (capital of Friesland) to Drachten. The N31 is a busy 2x2 expressway connecting the 2 largest cities of the Friesland province.
Beyond Leeuwarden the N31 turns into the A31 continuing to Harlingen on the Waddensea. At Drachten the N31 converts into the N381, which was recently upgraded to a 2x2 expressway until the town of Oosterwolde. The N381 connects Drachten to the city of Emmen in the East.

Ter Apel Cinematic Drone, the Netherlands - DJI Air 3
Leuk dat je kijkt naar deze drone video over Ter Apel. Ter Apel is een groot dorp in de gemeente Oosterwolde in Groningen. Het dorp staat vooral bekend door het AZC waar veel asielzoekers worden opgevangen. In het nieuws komt vaak naar voren dat er veel overlast van deze asielzoekers uit het AZC is, maar dat is niet hoe Ter Apel direct ook is. Ter Apel zelf heeft een groot winkelcentrum en is best rustig eerlijk gezegd. Vlak buiten het centrum ligt een klooster in de bossen welke het bezoeken waard is.

There is a lot of countryside here which is easily accessed by bike and a pleasure to ride through.
This beautiful ride is just a few minute's ride from a city in what is one of the most densely populated countries in Europe. When I lived in the UK I could rarely be away from noise and traffic for as long as this.
The section of my Land's End to John O'Groats ride which was in Scotland was a rare example of being able to ride in relative peace - but that was no-where near my home in Cambridge !
Note in the last part of this how the excellent bike path is next to a terribly bumpy road for 4 wheeled vehicles.

World Port Days is a large annual multi-day event in the first weekend of September in the port of Rotterdam. The aim is to introduce the public to and give a glimpse behind the scenes of the port of Rotterdam, for example through ship visits, demonstrations on the water and presentations by port companies. The event attracts many visitors every year. Nowadays an important attraction is also the musical show and the fireworks on Saturday evening on the Nieuwe Maas, near the Erasmus Bridge. The locations are: the Nieuwe Maas as a demonstration area, Katendrecht, Wilhelminapier, Wilhelminaplein, Willemsplein, Willemskade, Veerkade at the Veerhaven, Westerkade and Parkkade.

In this video you can drive along on the Tauern Autobahn A10 E55 from Altenmarkt im Pongau to St. Michael im Lungau. The Tauern Autobahn is one of the most scenic Autobahns in Austria, cutting straight through the Alps from Salzburg in the North to Villach in the South.
This video features the Autobahn from Altenmarkt to St. Michael, an especially scenic stretch. I've stayed in Altenmarkt a couple of times in the past and it's a really nice area for exploring the Alps in both summer and wintertime. Schladming is a nearby well-known ski destination nearby. But there are more, like Flachau and Zauchensee.

Luchtbeelden gefilmd vanuit een drone. Schokland is een dorp en voormalig eiland in de Noordoostpolder, Nederlandse provincie Flevoland, dat in 1859 werd ontruimd vanwege de onveilige situatie en omdat de instandhouding van het eiland te duur was. De gemeente Schokland werd per 10 juli 1859 opgeheven en bij de gemeente Kampen gevoegd.
Tot 1932 lag Schokland als een echt eiland in de Zuiderzee, die na de voltooiing van de Afsluitdijk in 1932 het IJsselmeer werd. Sinds de drooglegging van de Noordoostpolder in 1942 maakt Schokland deel uit van het vasteland.
Schokland ligt precies tussen de dorpen Nagele en Ens aan de N352. Het gebied wordt beheerd door stichting Het Flevolandschap. Op Schokland bevindt zich een museum waar de geschiedenis van het voormalige eiland zichtbaar wordt gemaakt. Jaarlijks bezoeken circa 40.000 mensen het museumdorp. Schokland werd in 1995 op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO geplaatst.
Schokland (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈsχɔklɑnt]) is a former island in the Dutch Zuiderzee that is located in the municipality Noordoostpolder. Schokland lost its status as an island when the Noordoostpolder was reclaimed from the sea in 1942. The remains are still visible as a slightly elevated part in the polder and by the still partly intact retaining wall of the waterfront of 'Middelbuurt'. On 1 April 2014, it had 8 inhabitants.[1]
As a result from the increasing sea-level Schokland transformed from an attractive settlement area in the Middle Ages to a place under continuous threat by floods in the 19th century. By that time the Schoklanders had retreated to the three most elevated parts, Emmeloord, Molenbuurt, and Middelbuurt. A major flood in 1825 brought massive destruction, and in 1859 the government decided to end permanent settlement on Schokland. The former municipality of Schokland was joined to Kampen on the mainland.
Today Schokland is a popular archeological site and host to the Schokland Museum. Schokland was the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Netherlands. According to Statistics Netherlands, there are five people living on the former island.

We only ride past a small part of the cycle parking here. The rest was a full as this bit. When there is an event in the centre they have to put up signs to redirect cyclists to extra overflow cycle parking.

This shows the quality of 1970s provision for cyclists in the Netherlands. This housing estate in Assen is zig-zagged by direct cycle paths to get to wherever you want to go. Driving is less convenient.
Where the bike path crosses the road, the road gives way to the bike path, not the other way around.
It's perfectly normal here to cycle in the winter.
