Onverwacht - District Para - Suriname
U krijgt een korte terugblik op het vroegere treinverkeer in Suriname. Een oud spoorwegstation die werd aangelegd tussen 1903 en 1912, roept nog herinneringen op aan deze goede oude tijd.
In het plaatsje Onverwacht, in het district Para, kom je nog oude restanten tegen van treinen die daar vroeger gereden hebben. Het traject tussen Paramaribo en Onverwacht is geheel verdwenen. De treinen in Suriname deden dienst tot 1982.
Overblijfselen van een spoorweg verwijzen naar de verbinding die werd onderhouden tussen Paramaribo en Boven Suriname. De locomotieven en de treinstellen zijn in de loop der tijd in verval geraakt en op vele delen van de spoorlijn heeft de natuur nu vrij spel. Op weg naar Zanderij of naar de andere kant naar Paramaribo zie je langs de kant van de weg een locomotief. Deze staat symbool voor het vroegere treinverkeer in Suriname.

Colakreek - district Para - Suriname
De Cola kreek is een recreatieoord dat door vele bezocht wordt om een dagje te relaxen. Het ligt in het district Para op 50 km afstand van Paramaribo, iets ten zuiden van de luchthaven. Deze schaduwrijke natuurbadplaats is populair en wordt met name in de vakantieperioden en zon-en feestdagen druk bezocht. Het water van deze kreek is verrassend koel en schoon en komt rechtstreeks uit het binnenland van Suriname.
Rond de tweede Wereldoorlog kwam de kreek tot ontwikkeling. Voor de Amerikaanse militairen die in Suriname gelegerd waren was het dé ideale plek om er te ontspannen. Halverwege de jaren negentig werd de Colakreek gerenoveerd en wordt het sindsdien geëxploiteerd door de METS (Maatschappij ter Exploitatie van Toeristische verblijven in Suriname).

Suriname Drone Flight: Suriname is a small country on the northeastern coast of South America. Its defined by vast swaths of tropical rainforest, Dutch colonial architecture and a melting-pot culture. On its Atlantic coast is the capital, Paramaribo, where palm gardens grow near Fort Zeelandia, a 17th-century trading post. Paramaribo is also home to Saint Peter and Paul Basilica, a towering wood cathedral consecrated in 1885. Along the coast are beaches, river estuaries and Nieuw Amsterdam, a town known for its star-shaped fort and open-air museum, the Fort Nieuw Amsterdam. Dolphins & Sunset trip - Suriname
Tijdens de Sunset & Dolphins trip kunt u genieten van een hapje en een drankje en heerlijk uitwaaien en genieten van de magie van een ontmoeting met dolfijnen. We brengen een bezoek aan de oude plantage Johan en Margaretha waar we in het licht van de ondergaande zon genieten van verse lokale snacks.

Programma
We vertrekken om 16.00 uur vanaf Leonsberg, gelegen aan de Suriname rivier, met een traditionele Surinaamse tentboot richting de monding van de Commewijne rivier op zoek naar de dolfijnen.
Onder het genot van een (alcoholische of non-alcoholische) consumptie banen we onze weg richting de monding van de Commewijne rivier. Terwijl we genieten van de wind en de omgeving speurt kapitein Moen de horizon af op zoek naar de dolfijnen. Moen heeft zijn expertise op het gebied van dolfijnen opgebouwd in de 15 jaar dat hij te maken heeft met deze dieren. Hij ziet ze dan ook vaak al lang voordat iemand anders ze kan ontdekken.
Soms komen de dolfijnen nieuwsgierig dichtbij en als je hun kleine oogjes in het voorbijgaan even ziet schitteren boven het wateroppervlak is de kans groot dat ze zin hebben om te spelen. En spelen kunnen ze. Het lijkt alsof ze er extra veel lol in hebben om steeds op onverwachte plekken boven te komen, nét als alle camera’s de andere kant op gericht zijn.
Nadat we de dolfijnen uitgebreid hebben gezien varen we langzaam naar plantage Johan en Margaretha, terwijl papagaaien overvliegen en sabaku’s (reigers) ons vanuit de mangroven in de gaten houden. Op een houten terras aan de rivier genieten we van de rustige atmosfeer, waar aan het einde van de werkdag de lokale bewoners ook een beetje komen ontspannen. Het lijkt hier alsof de tijd heeft stilgestaan.
U zult, afhankelijk van het seizoen, genieten van diverse lokale snacks zoals een lekkere vers gebakken baka bana (banaan) of een loempiaatje. Terwijl de kinderen over het zandpad rennen, de bewoners met hun brommertjes af en aan rijden en de mannen vissen en hun welverdiend biertje drinken aan de oever van de rivier, proeft u een stukje Suriname dat je de drukte van de stad geheel doet vergeten.
Na een wandeling door het dorp, als de zon langzaam onder gaat stappen we weer aan boord van onze boot. Onder het genot van een hapje en een drankje, een gezellig muziekje en wat sfeerverlichting genieten we van de zonsondergang en zijn continue veranderende kleurenpracht.
Drie uur na ons vertrek zetten we geheel ontspannen weer voet aan wal. U heeft het gevoel dat u een dag bent weggeweest.

Tapawatra Falls adventure || Sipaliwini District, Suriname
Welcome to off the beaten path with Sairah.
I'm Sairah and I live in a small country in South America called Suriname.
In this video I'll take you with me on my trip to my country's beautiful interior.
The Tapawatra Falls are located deep in the interior of Suriname. Tapawatra is a waterfall and the name literally translates to: on the water. From Paramaribo it's about a 6 hour journey to reach the resort (3 hours by car & about 3 more hours by boat). The resort you stay at is named Kodoufii Tapawatra Resort and is located across the falls. You go to sleep and wake up to the sound of the waterfall.
From the resort you can visit the Tapawatra falls and you can also go for a hike through the forest & climb to the top of the Ananasberg (Pineapple mountain). It's called Pineapple mountain because along the sides and on the top of the mountain you can find a lot of wild pineapples growing.
In this video you'll see the journey to get there, what the resort looks like, the falls & the hike through the forest to the top of pineapple mountain.
