Majorna, Göteborg [Sweden walks]
Majorna Göteborg, Sweden (narrated)
Majorna is an old area, originating from the times of the Älvsborg fortress before the foundation of Gothenburg in 1621. After the foundation of the city of Gothenburg, Majorna housed wharfs and other harbour-related business.
In the beginning of the 1900s, Majorna got its first tram line. It went over a hill known as Stigbergsliden, continued along Karl Johansgatan, all the way to the end station at Slottskogsgatan. This meant that the population of Majorna became less isolated, they could now take the tram to work in the factories in Gamlestaden, and later at SKF.
The buildings significant to Majorna are the three storey buildings where the first storey is built in stone and the topmost two are built of wood, called Landshövdingehus. They were frequently built in Gothenburg during the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The neigbourhood Majorna has used to be home to the poorest people of the city but is now a rather hip area. The name might come from the Finnish sailors and Estonian soldiers that built their homes in the area, and from their word for small cottage. This is filmed in April 2019.

Ep 15. West Coast Sails to Donsö, Bua, Glommen and Vrångö, 2019
After our midsummer sailing with Annika, my son Anders and his family are patterned. We sail south from Saltholmen in Gothenburg and after a short sail we dock at Donsö. Donsö is one of the larger and densely populated islands in Gothenburg's southern archipelago. A fully functioning society dominated by shipping companies and fishing. Has a bridge connection with the larger island of Styrsö. Here we have a good time in the summer weather and swim at the nice bathing spots on the east side of the island. A lot of boats in the harbor so the first night we were at the far end as the third boat but the second night we moved so we were at the inside with two new sailboats on the outside of us! Then it was off to Bua where we feasted on seafood and met my colleague Jerk with his partner Berit who lives in Bua! The following day, we left Bua after lunch and a bit of swimming and had a nice afternoon sailing to the favorite harbor in Halland, namely Glommen! Lovely evening in Glommen, more swimming, very good barbecue with root vegetables from our allotment and a magical sunset! Turning north again as the crew that was supposed to enlist in Skåne dropped out just a few days before when the idea was to sail to Kalmar and then on to Stockholm! We sail again north to Gottskär on Onsala, but it was not a pleasant guest port! We were interviewed by Radio Halland, which was fun and exciting! Slept one night but sailed early further north with the destination Vrångö. We had two beautiful days on Vrångö with lovely swimming and fantastic crayfish! Anders and his family took the ferry to Gothenburg and I stayed on Vrångö by myself and the next day my daughter Maria came out with her friend Linnéa and helped me sail Ragnvi home! When Ragnvi was back in Gothenburg, Annika and I took the opportunity to take a tour of Gothenburg's northern archipelago and to Björkö.
Efter vår midsommarsegling så mönstrar min son Anders med familj på. Vi seglar söder ut från Saltholmen i Göteborg och efter en kort segling lägger vi till på Donsö. Donsö är en av de större och tätt befolkade öarna i Göteborgs södra skärgård. Ett fullt fungerande samhälle dominerat av rederier och fiske. Har broförbindelse med den större ön Styrsö. Här har vi det skönt i sommarvädret och badar vid den fina badplatser på ön östra sida. mycket båtar i hamnen så första natten låg vi ytterst som tredje båt men andra natten flyttade vi så vi låg innerst med två nya segelbåtar utanpå oss! Sedan bar det iväg till Bua där vi frossade i skaldjur och träffade min arbetskamrat Jerk med sambon Berit som bor i Bua! Dagen därpå lämnade vi bua efter lunch och lite bad och hade en fin eftermiddagssegling till favorithamnen i Halland nämligen Glommen! Härlig kväll i Glommen, mer bad, väldigt god grill med rotfrukter från vår kolonilott och en magisk solnedgång! Vänder åter norrut då besättningen som skulle mönstra på i Skåne hoppat av bara några dagar innan då tanken var att segla till Kalmar och sedan vidare till Stockholm! Vi seglar åter norr ut till Gottskär på Onsala men det var ingen trevlig gästhamn! Vi blev intervjuade av Radio Halland vilket var kul och spännande! sov en natt men seglade tidigt vidare norrut med målet Vrångö. Vi hade två sköna dagar på Vrångö med härliga bad och fantastiska kräftor! Anders med familj tog färjan till Göteborg och jag stannade själv på Vrångö med dagen efter kom min dotter Maria ut med sin vän Linnéa och hjälpte mig att segla hem Ragnvi! Då Ragnvi åter var i Göteborg passade jag och Annika på att ta an tur i Göteborgs norra skärgård och till Björkö.

Kalvön är en kuperad skogsklädd ö men fina uddar och holmar.
