Old Harbour is a town in southern Jamaica. It used to be served by a station on the national railway network. The nearby Port Esquivel is a major shipping hub for the exportation of bauxite and sugar. Port Esquivel is also the location of a tank farm constructed for ethanol but repurposed for petroleum distillates. This hour before lock down was something different for Old Harbour People.

Old Harbour, town and Caribbean port, southern Jamaica, west of Kingston. Originally called Esquivel after its Spanish founder, it was once Spanish Town’s second port, when the latter was capital of Jamaica, and was famous for shipbuilding. After a period of decline it is now important for shipping bauxite as well as sugarcane, tropical fruit, and coffee. In 1940 the U.S. Navy leased land on nearby Little Goat Island and established a base there that was used during World War II. Pop. (2011) urban area, 28,912.

Colbeck Manor is a gated development nestled in the historic area of Colbeck Castle in Old Harbour, St. Catherine. This is our newest development which features three different designs of single-family units: The Monarch (3 bedroom/2 bathroom), the Citadel (2 bedroom/1 bathroom) & the Vista (2 bedroom/2 bathroom).

Kingston, the capital of Jamaica, is located on the southeastern coast of the island. There are two major sections to this city: 'downtown' and 'uptown,' also referred to as 'New Kingston.' Kingston was for some time Jamaica's only city and is still the commercial and cultural capital. You will notice that the city is assigned the equivalent of zip codes, (Kingston 5, Kingston 10, etc.) which is a good representation of how truly large this city is, especially for an island such as Jamaica.

Port Royal. Once known as the Richest and wickedest city in the world, Port Royal is a notorious 17th century pirate haven. The most famous pirate who operated from Port Royal was Sir Henry Morgan who plundered Spanish vessels travelling in the Caribbean. The city prospered as the pirates gathered riches, but a strong earthquake struck the area on June 7, 1692 sinking the ships in the harbor and killing many people as the earthquake moved much of the city into the sea. It has been said that the earthquake was caused by God himself to punish the evildoers of Port Royal. This disaster helped to establish Kingston as the new capital, and many of the survivors of the earthquake moved to Kingston. Although most of the buildings at the port today are not the original building. The Largest Botanical Garden in the Caribbean. The garden gets its name from the man Richard Hope who helped capture Jamaica for Great Britain and was given the property to reward him for his faithfulness to the Crown. Free. edit

Explore Jamaica: Colbeck Castle in St. Catherine, Jamaica
Jamaica is popularly known as the destination of pristine beaches, sumptuous food and rich culture. This video displays an aerial view of the historic ruins of Colbeck Castle, located a few minutes outside of Old Harbour in the parish of St. Catherine. The structure was built in the 1600s by the English as a defence against the Spanish.
At the time of writing this, the National Housing Trust in Jamaica is currently constructing housing units for the public next door to the site.

The Developer, Whim Development Company Limited plans to undertake a two-part residential housing development on approximately 70 hectares of land adjacent to the New Harbour Village II(NHV2) residential scheme in Old Harbour, St.Catherine. The development is named Whim Estates and will consist of standalone residential housing and supporting amenities in a gated community with a resulting projected population of approximately 3,500 occupying the completed development’s 876 homes.
The development will consist of lots with a minimum lot size of 418 sq. meters (4,500 sq. ft.) configured to facilitate the passage of vehicles up to the size of a dump truck access to the rear of the lots. This approach will provide residents the ability to have bulk goods and materials offloaded closer to the area allocated for expansion of their homes as compared to the more distant, and often unsightly offloading at the front of the lot.
Over the course of the project, the Developer will place emphasis on forming and working with the Citizens Associations of Whim Estates in collaboration with the NHV2 Association and other area neighbours to ensure the sustainable operation and expansion of the Development’s amenities. The goal will be to form a business model supported by the more than 8,000 residents of the twinned NHV2 and Whim Estates communities in order to provide the residents with the ability to do so.
