Cauri visai parka teritorijai ir ierīkota apgaismota distanču slēpošanas trase.
Great idea for weekends nearby Riga. Ogre Blue Mountains is a nature park in Ogre and Ikšķile region. The 312-hectare park has been a specially protected nature area since 2004. The Blue Mountains area is well-maintained for vacationers and tourists, it houses the Dubkalni Reservoir and the 30-meter-high Blue Mountains Lookout Tower, which was opened in 2013 and is located at the highest point of the mountains. An illuminated cross-country ski run is installed throughout the park.

The picturesque and primordial river valley of Gauja lies within the heart of Latvia and has for centuries attracted travellers from each corner of the world. This ‘Livonian Switzerland’ not only possesses the charm of primary nature but also all of the ambience of a mysterious past. From 1878 the new Sigulda Castle was built for Russian prince, Cropotkin, on the site of the outer bailey of an Order castle. Sigulda Castle was built by the Order Of The Brothers Of The Sword but, following union with the Teutonic Order, passed over to the Livonians. Cesis is located in the middle of the Highlands and is one of the oldest and most splendid towns in the country. Saint John‘s Church is also the country’s oldest basilica. It is the largest Gothic church outside Riga and was founded in 1282 as the main church of the Brothers Of The Sword. From 1778 the ‘New Castle’ was inhabited by the noble Von Silvers Family and today the Museum Of History And Art is housed there. Since the thirteenth century, the mediaeval castle has shared its fate together with the city in fighting against Russian, Polish and Swedish armies. Despite much damage, today the ruins are still impressive and is where unique nature combines with atmospheric historic buildings.

The manor house was built during 1780–1782. In the middle of the 19th century it was modernised, adding to it neo-Gothic style. The manor had been destroyed and rebuilt for several times. After being destroyed in 1905, the manor was rebuilt by its last owner, Baron von Hanenfeld.

01. St. Peter's Church
A Lutheran church dedicated to Saint Peter. A parish church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia. The history of the church can be divided into three distinct periods: two associated with Gothic and Romanesque building styles, the third with the early Baroque period.
02. Freedom Monument
A memorial honouring soldiers killed during the Latvian War of Independence (1918–1920). Considered an important symbol of the freedom, independence, and sovereignty of Latvia. UUnveiled in 1935, the 42-metre high monument of granite, travertine, and copper. Serves as the focal point of public gatherings and official ceremonies in Riga.
03. Latvian Ethnographic Open Air Museum
An open-air museum, situated in a forest park area beside a lake just outside the capital, with farmers village houses, moved from different districts of the country. Established in 1924, inspired by open-air museums in Scandinavia. The plan was to establish a farm from the four regions, Courland, Zemgale, Vidzeme and Latgale, supplied by buildings representing different crafts.
04. Vērmanes Garden
The oldest public garden in the city of Riga. Comprises an area of approximately 5 hectares. A granite obelisk was erected 1829 in the park as a posthumous memorial to Anna Wöhrmann. The memorial was dismantled prior to World War II and recreated 2000.
05. Nativity Cathedral
The largest Orthodox cathedral in the Baltic provinces built with the blessing of the Russian Tsar Alexander II. Built to a design by Nikolai Chagin in a Neo-Byzantine style between 1876 and 1883, during the period when the country was part of the Russian Empire. In the early 1960s, Soviet authorities closed down the cathedral and converted its building into a planetarium.
06. Riga Motor Museum
The biggest antique vehicle museum in the Baltic countries. Was founded in 1989. Since 1992 it is a state museum. One of the most significant exhibits in the museum is the 1938 Auto Union racing car Type D, which was saved from cutting into scrap by Viktors Kulbergs, president of Antique Automobile Club of Latvia.
07. Riga Zoo
A city-owned zoo. Located in Mežaparks, on the western bank of Ķīšezers lake. Riga Zoo houses around 4000 animals of nearly 500 species and is visited by 250-300,000 visitors annually. Has an area of 135 hectares (330 acres).
08. Riga Aviation Museum
An aviation museum in Riga. Located in the grounds of Riga International Airport and is regularly open for public viewing. Was established in 1956 by Victor Talpa, who worked for the Latvian Civil Aviation Administration, but it was privatised in 1997.
09. Museum of the Occupation of Latvia
An historic educational institution. Was established in 1993 to exhibit artifacts, archive documents, and educate the public about the 51-year period in the 20th century when Latvia was successively occupied by the USSR in 1940, then by Nazi Germany in 1941, and then again by the USSR in 1944.
10. Latvian Railway History Museum
A railway museum in Riga. Was established on August 30, 1994 and contains more than a thousand items, documents and photographs related to railway communications and signalling equipment, tools and instruments, uniforms and badges.

Zilie Kalni (Blue Hills) Nature Park in the Ogre municipality is popular with holiday makers, who lead an active lifestyle or just want a breath of fresh forest air. An EU protected habitat – a coniferous forest growing on the esker ridge of the Ogre Blue Hills – covers most of the nature park's territory and is home to 18 protected plant species, six protected bird species and several protected insect species.
A splendid view opens from the 30-meter-high observation tower on the highest of the hills.

???????? RIGA, LATVIA - Welcome back to Riga, Latvia for Part 3 of my 4 part series from the Baltics. In this 2020 Baltics Travel series, we are not only visiting Riga, but also Tallinn, Estonia.
If you're planning a Riga trip and looking for some things to do in Riga, my series could be right up your street. In previous videos, we've visited the art nouveau Riga Old Town, Riga's Freedom Monument, and The Corner House, which is the building which formerly housed the Cheka (or the KGB).
In this video, we head to the bus station area to visit Europe's largest market - Riga Central Market. It's situated in former airship hangers dating back to 1920. Each hanger is filled with either meat, fish, dairy, and produce. We have some Latvian food such as zefir (common across the region and Russia) as well as sprats on rye bread (a classic example of food in Riga!)
The Riga food market is HUGE and is an ideal opportunity to experience the daily life of a Latvian in Riga.
I also cover some details on my experience as a Digital Nomad in Riga. As well as producing videos for this channel, I run a website/blog, write Ebooks and teach business English online. As a result, I stay in Airbnbs long-term and need certain things like good wifi and suitable amenities. I'd definitely recommend Riga for Digital Nomads!
