Port Sudan | the souk

Port Sudan (Arabic: بور سودان) is a port city in eastern Sudan, and the capital of the state of Red Sea. As of 2007, it has 489,725 residents. Located on the Red Sea, it is recognized as Sudan's main seaport and the source of 90% of the country's international trade. Port Sudan was built between 1905 and 1909 by the administration of Anglo-Egyptian Sudan to replace Suakin. An oil pipeline was built between the port and Khartoum in 1977.
In 2020, Russian president Vladimir Putin announced that the Russian Navy would begin construction on a base with capacity for 300 personnel and four warships in Port Sudan. The facility would prove Russia with a naval base in the nation for at least 25 years. The plan was ultimately suspended, though Sudanese leadership indicated that it is possible for the construction to go forward in the future.
Following the October–November 2021 Sudanese coup d'état, the Beja tribal council initiated a weeklong blockade of the city's ports. Following negotiations with military officials, the blockade was lifted.

Sudan'a seyahat zamanı - Sudan, dünyanın en sıcak ülkelerinden biri. Sudan'a seyahatinizden gerçekten zevk almak istiyorsanız, kasım ayından şubat ayına kadar kışın gitmelisiniz. Yılın geri kalanında, ısı, özellikle yaz aylarında, dayanılmaz bir şeydir. Aralık ayında oraya gittim ve öğle saatlerinde sıcaklık 34ºC'nin üzerine çıktı.

Sudan'a seyahat etmek güvenli midir? Meroë Pyramids in Sudan - August 2021

August 4, 2021 ** Meroë Pyramids ** Sudan

I had the entire site completely to myself. Meroë was an ancient city on the east bank of the Nile about 6 km north-east of the Kabushiya station near Shendi, Sudan, approximately 200 km north-east of Khartoum.

Near the site is a group of villages called Bagrawiyah (Arabic: البجراوية‎). This city was the capital of the Kingdom of Kush for several centuries from around 590 BC, until its collapse in the fourth century CE.

The Kushitic Kingdom of Meroë gave its name to the Island of Meroë (the name given under the UNESCO World Heritage Site designation, based on its location near the confluence of the Blue and White Nile Rivers), which was the modern region of Butana, a region bounded by the Nile (from the Atbarah River to Khartoum), the Atbarah and the Blue Nile.

The city of Meroë was on the edge of Butana. There were two other Meroitic cities in Butana: Musawwarat es-Sufra and Naqa. The first of these sites was given the name Meroë by the Persian king, Cambyses, in honor of his sister who was called by that name. The city had originally borne the ancient appellation Saba, named after the country's original founder.

The eponym Saba, or Seba, is named for one of the sons of Cush (see Genesis 10:7). The presence of numerous Meroitic sites within the western Butana region and on the border of Butana proper is significant to the settlement of the core of the developed region. The orientation of these settlements exhibit the exercise of state power over subsistence production.

The Kingdom of Kush which housed the city of Meroë represents one of a series of early states located within the middle Nile. It was of the earliest and most impressive states found on the African continent (along with Ancient Egypt). Looking at the specificity of the surrounding early states within the middle Nile, one's understanding of Meroë in combination with the historical developments of other historic states may be enhanced through looking at the development of power relation characteristics within other Nile Valley states.

The site of the city of Meroë is marked by more than 200 pyramids in three groups, of which many are in ruins. They have the distinctive size and proportions of Nubian pyramids.

Here's the official site from UNESCO with site descriptions, maps, and photos:

Sudan Khartoum International Airport KRT

Sudan Khartoum International Airport KRT - An episode of series: A Guide to Major Airports in Africa.
1. Location: Khartoum city center.
2. Pros: Set right in the city center.
3. Cons: Poor infrastructure.
4. Ground Transportation: Metered taxis or shared mini-buses are available outside the terminal..
Though Khartoum International Airport doesn't get high marks for its facilities, it's still one of the busiest in Africa, seeing 3.5 million passengers in 2017. A new facility that can handle a greater capacity is under construction 25 miles outside of Khartoum. For the time being, however, Sudan Airways has its hub at the current airport, flying to destinations around Africa and the Middle East. Most of the airlines that serve this airport are also based in Africa and the Middle East. Passengers report that the airport is outdated and dirty—problems that will hopefully be remedied with the opening of the new airport in 2022..
