Whispering Wall
Overview
The Whispering Wall is open from 9am - 5pm (6pm in daylight saving) and not open in total fire bans days, catastrophic fire days, and sometimes not open on extreme fire danger days.

The Whispering Wall is in fact the retaining wall of the Barossa Reservoir. Built between 1899 and 1903, the dam was a revolutionary engineering feat for its day and attracted attention from all over the world, even making its way into the pages of the journal Scientific American.
But what draws visitors to the Whispering Wall is its unique acoustic effects: words whispered at one side can be clearly heard at the other, more than 100 metres away. Children in particular love visiting the wall and testing its abilities.
Besides trying out the Whispering Wall, visitors can also learn about the history of the construction of the dam, take in the scenery of the water reserve and enjoy the colours and sounds of the peaceful bush setting.

The World Famous Whispering Wall, Barossa Valley, South Australia
Last weekend Tam and I checked out the Whispering Wall at the Barossa Reservoir in South Australia.
The wall is famous for an incredible acoustic effect that lets you can have a normal conversation with someone standing on the other side of the wall more than140 m away!
It's an extraordinary experience and one that's a lot of fun - and a good way to meet new people as Tam found out!

The Barossa Valley is a wine region in South Australia where the Jacob's Creek and Steingarten lookout is located. Jacob's Creek is recognized as one of the leading wine tourism site in Australia. It features a stunning view of the vineyard where visitors can sample their wines, enjoy some food/coffee/ picnic platters or simply just go there to enjoy the view. Join us as we explore the place.
Barossa Valley, South Australia
The Barossa Valley is in South Australia and is one of the best wine-producing regions on the Australian mainland with a rapidly-growing international reputation, around an hour from Adelaide. Many wineries in the region are open for tastings, with many also serving food and beer.
The evidence of the original German settlers can be seen in the steeply sloping roofs of the older buildings. The local cuisine is very heavily influenced by Germanic culture. For example, meats such as Mettwurst, Bratwurst and a range of other tasty and old-fashioned sausages are found throughout the region. On the dessert side, heavy cream cakes are very popular, including Bienenstich and cream buns of all sorts of forms.
There is also an Anglo influence in the Scottish Angaston region. You will be able to see the differences between this town and the surrounding Germanic towns, in the architecture and even by the family names that can be found on war memorials etc.
Religion in this region is predominantly Lutheran, so expect to see many churches made from stone, with beautiful silver spires reaching to the sky. The quality architecture is testament to much loving care and fine masonry skills lavished on the building of the churches in the past 150 years.
It is now possible to say with truth and pride that the Barossa is one of the finest wine producing regions in the world. It has great soils, family farms where the wine-growing traditions have been passed down through the generations and local oenologist courses at such places as Roseworthy College are ensuring that winemakers are highly educated and skilled in their winemaking. Many of the local schools also include winemaking courses as part of their agricultural studies curricula.
