Exploring Malawi Africa (Road Trip to Cape Maclear)
In this vlog, we hit the road to Cape Maclear. A town situated on lake Malawi. It took us a couple days traveling by car from Lilongwe. We stopped by for some groceries at the local market along the way to visit our friend Andy's aunt in Blantyre. She had a traditional Malawian meal prepared and ready for us upon our arrival to her house. After visiting with our friend’s aunt, we continued our trip and spent the night in a small village called Mangochi. The next day, we finally arrived in Cape Maclear. We stayed at a cozy little lodge called Thumbi View. We took an afternoon trip to Thumbi Island, where we swim with the cichlids and enjoyed a wonderful lunch on the beach. Cape Maclear is not to be missed. Malawi tourism at its best.

Lilongwe is Malawi's capital, a pleasant enough city where you'll find embassies and government department. The population is smaller than Blantyre, just under one million people..
The New Town, spread out with modern office buildings and residential areas, is to the north. The Old Town on the south is more lively, with a really great market where you can buy everything from bikes to vegetables to fans. Just watch your valuables here and enjoy a little bartering. The city is a good place to regroup if you've been on the road for a while, offering many accommodation options and some decent restaurants in both the Old Town and the New Town..
The Lilongwe Wildlife Center, housing nearly 200 rescued wild animals, is one of several worthwhile attractions in the capital. Some of the embassies and cultural centers host local art shows; check local papers for information..
Malawi 2019: Shire River Cruise
The second day's highlight must surely be the boat trip up the Shire (pronounced: 'sherry') River in the company of a myriad of birds and crocs! Here's just a few of the many species we encountered as we puttered along in our little craft.

Our Car BROKE DOWN in Malawi
We had a wonderful two weeks in Malawi! We were able to visit so many cool people and places around this beautiful country! Even though our car broke down and got stuck in the mud, we still had an amazing time. We also went with Nazarene Compassionate Ministries to participate in and film a cash distribution in the village of Nsanje. We ended our time with a relaxing weekend on Lake Malawi that was absolutely wonderful. We are so glad to have gotten this opportunity to be in Malawi!

Bridge over Ruo River on the road from Muona to Makhanga, Nsanje, Malawi. Ruo River changed direction in January 2015 thereby rendering Makhanga an island. Since then Makhanga is accessible by boat (or helicopter).
