Nong Khai is a northeastern Thai province on the banks of the Mekong River. The provincial capital, also called Nong Khai, is a gateway to Vientiane, the capital of Laos, via the Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge. In the city’s east, Sala Keoku Park has giant concrete Buddhist, Hindu and Christian statues. Northeast along the river, the jungle-covered Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary is home to elephants, deer, bears and monkeys.

Mekong River and Friendship Bridge: One of the main attractions of Nong Khai is the Mekong River, which offers scenic views and opportunities for riverfront activities. The First Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge connects Nong Khai with the city of Vientiane, the capital of Laos, facilitating cross-border trade and tourism between the two countries.
Phra That Nong Khai: This is an important religious site in the city, featuring a revered Buddhist stupa known as Phra That which is believed to house relics of the Buddha.
Sala Kaew Ku (Sala Keoku): This is an intriguing sculpture park located near Nong Khai, just across the river in Laos. It was created by the visionary artist Bunleua Sulilat and showcases a collection of enormous and eccentric sculptures with religious and philosophical themes.
Thai-Lao Market: As a border city, Nong Khai has a lively market where visitors can find a variety of goods from both Thailand and Laos. It's a great place to experience the blend of cultures from the two neighboring countries.
Festivals: Nong Khai hosts several cultural and religious festivals throughout the year, offering visitors a chance to experience local traditions and customs. Nong Khai - border town
Our second destination on our trip to Esan was the border town of Nong Khai. It was basically a rest stop over and we didn't see a lot. However it was enough to make us want to put this town on our return list. The peace bridge is in Nong Khai and is an entry point to Laos. Unfortunately there are to many travel restrictions at this time.

This night market here in Nongkhai has a lot of people going out at night amd also a lot of foreigners who come here and you can buy a lot more cheaply and then there are also delicious meals.

Nong Khai Aquarium is just a short drive from Nong Khai Centre. Its a great place to head with the kids and is cheap entry. Even farang adult entry is only 100 baht.
