The Bielersee, English Lake Biel, French Lac de Bienne, is a lake in western Switzerland that lies at the foot of the Jura Mountains at an elevation of 429 metres and borders the cantons of Bern and Neuchâtel. It is 15 km long and 4 km wide with a maximum depth of 75 meters and has an area of 39 square km. Within the lake is the Île Saint-Pierre, which contains many traces of prehistoric lake dwellings. Its waters receive the Suze and Thièle rivers, and the Aare River flows into it through the Hagneck Canal and out again at Nidau. Vineyards are planted along the shores.

Nidau is a municipality in the Biel/Bienne administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.
The city is located at the city limits of Biel/Bienne and both cities have grown intertwined. Since the Jura water correction, the medieval centre and a good portion of the city of Nidau are now actually located on an island, created by the Nidau-Büren Aare canal, the river Thielle in French or Zihl in German, and the Lake Biel's shore.
Nidau has an area of 1.52 km2 (0.59 sq mi).As of 2012, none of the land is used for agricultural purposes, while 0.06 km2 (0.023 sq mi) or 3.9% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 1.28 km2 (0.49 sq mi) or 84.2% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.18 km2 (0.069 sq mi) or 11.8% is either rivers or lakes.
During the same year, industrial buildings made up 6.6% of the total area while housing and buildings made up 46.1% and transportation infrastructure made up 17.1%. Power and water infrastructure as well as other special developed areas made up 2.6% of the area while parks, green belts and sports fields made up 11.8%. Out of the forested land, 2.0% of the total land area is heavily forested and 2.0% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the water in the municipality, 0.7% is in lakes and 11.2% is in rivers and streams.
On 31 December 2009 Amtsbezirk Nidau, the municipality's former district, was dissolved. On the following day, 1 January 2010, it joined the newly created Verwaltungskreis Biel/Bienne.

Lake Biel, German Bielersee, French Lac de Bienne, lake in western Switzerland that lies at the foot of the Jura Mountains at an elevation of 1,407 feet (429 metres) and borders the cantons of Bern and Neuchâtel. It is 9.5 miles (15 km) long and 2.5 miles wide with a maximum depth of 246 feet (75 metres) and has an area of 15 square miles (39 square km). Within the lake is the Île Saint-Pierre, which contains many traces of prehistoric lake dwellings. Its waters receive the Suze and Thièle rivers, and the Aare River flows into it through the Hagneck Canal (east) and out again at Nidau. Vineyards are planted along the shores. The principal lakeside town is Biel (Bienne).

Seeland (english: Lakeland) is a region in Switzerland at the south-eastern foot of the Jura mountain range, and containing 3 Lakes. Lake Morat or Lake Murten, Lake Neuchâtel (French: Lac de Neuchâtel), and Lake Biel or Lake Bienne (German: Bielersee/French: Lac de Bienne). In previous eras, the Seeland was the floodplain of the Aare and was therefore swampy. After the huge hydrological works Jura water correction, the area drained out and could support more cultivation. Seeland is one of the most important regions in Switzerland for growing vegetables, particularly in the Grand Marais (Grosses Moos). The region is at the boundary of the cantons of Bern, Fribourg, Neuchâtel, and Vaud, forming part of the linguistic boundary region between the French- and German-speaking Switzerland.

A morning in Biel/Bienne | City Sounds & Ambience [4k]
Biel/Bienne, the largest bilingual city in Switzerland, where German and French are spoken equally. It is also the cradle of the Swiss watch industry.
We are near the city center, next to the Suze, a river that runs 45 km to end its course in Biel/Bienne's lake. A few meters further and we find ourselves in the Elfenau park, where city sounds are muffled.

Aarefahrt mit dem Schiff und Schleusenfahrt von Solothurn nach Biel 4k Switzerland
Aarefahrt mit dem Schiff MS Solothurn auf der Aare von Solothurn bis nach Biel - Eindrücke von einem gemütlichen Familienausflug in der Schweiz. Auch die Schleusung in Port zurück in den Bielersee und in den Bieler Hafen wurden eingefangen.
Dabei habe ich ein paar Timelapse, Slow-Motions- und weitere Aufnahmen gemacht und zu diesem Film zusammengeschnitten.
Die Fahrt dauert übrigens gut 3h, also überlegt euch im Vorfeld wie ihr eure Kinder unterhalten könnt.

An der Aare von Biel nach Arch am Nidau-Büren-Kanal erster Teil
Heute bin ich von Biel nach Arch an der Aare entlang unterwegs. Gestartet bin ich beim Bahnhof Biel/Bienne, zuerst führte mich mein Wanderweg zum Bielersee dem ich leider nur ein kurzes Stück folgte. Doch schon bald zweigte mein Wanderweg ab, ich folgte ein langes Stück dem Nidau-Büren-Kanal, dort fließt auch das Wasser von der Aare durch. Dieser Kanal ist schiffbar, man kann eine Drei-Seen-Fahrt machen auf dem Murten, dem Neuenburger und dem Bielersee und anschließend auf dem Nidau-Büren-Kanal weiter auf der Aare bis nach Solothurn. Bald schon verließ ich den Kanal und folgte der Zihl aufwärts bis in das kleine Städtchen das an Biel angebaut ist, nach Nidau. Ich besuchte das kleine Städtchen, dort ging ich natürlich auch noch in die Kirche sie wurde 1678 bis 1682 erbaut.
Nach der Kirche ging meine Wanderung weiter zum Schloss von Nidau, das Schloss wurde im 13. Jahrhundert erbaut. Ich lief um das Schloss herum ging wieder zur Zihl und folgte der Zihl wieder bis zum Nidau-Büren-Kanal, diesmal aber auf der anderen Seite von der Zihl. Beim Kanal angekommen ging meine Wanderung zum Regulierwehr von Port. Dort wird der ganze Wasserspiegel vom Bielersee, vom Neuenburgersee und vom Murtensee reguliert, für die Schifffahrt ist eine Schleuse eingebaut. Von dort ging meine Wanderung weiter…..
