Привет, друзья! Вильнюс - это культурная столица Европы в 2009 году! Неожиданно? Да, для меня тоже!
В этом городе я уже не в первый раз, так что покажу свои любимые места.
Смотровые: башня Гедимина, холм с Тремя Крестами, террасу в Новом Городе.
Будет много кадров Старого Города: Вильнюсский Университет, улица Литерату, Кафедральная площадь и другие достопримечательности Вильнюса. Но кроме этого покажу и новые микрорайоны Вильнюса (Паупис), которые очень даже мне понравились.
А еще я пообщаюсь с коренной жительницей Вильнюса, Мариной. Узнаем, что думают жители города про Вильнюс и другие прибалтийские города.
Расскажу про местную кухню (цепелины и пиво уже поносит официант).
Погуляем по Новому городу и кварталам, которые за ним.
Оказалось что Вильнюс - это настоящий город контрастов про который можно много писать, но лучше все посмотреть в моём видео.
Будет интересно и познавательно, если ты собираешься в Вильнюс или Литву. В аэропорту, например, есть секретный ларек, где можно купить карту для проезда в общественном транспорте.
Литва - это небольшая страна и по площади и по населению, но она может удивить.
В конце я отвечу на извечный вопрос - что посмотреть в Вильнюсе и сколько дней на это нужно?
Устраивайся по-удобнее и готовь будетрброды с чаем:)

St Peter & Paul Cathedral
This medieval cathedral is situated in Newtown Cemetery. It was founded close to the temporal power of Trim Castle by the Norman Bishop Simon de Rochfort in c.1206 after his cathedral at Clonard was burned down. Only part of the original nave and chancel of this largest Gothic Church in Ireland survive. Part of the ruined Priory of Augustinian Canons, which were established to maintain the Cathedral, also survive.
Buried under the high alter of the cathedral are the remains of the founder Simon de Rochford (died 1224) and one of his successors, Bishop William Sherwood, who died in 1428. The figure of the bishop now affixed to the wall of the cathedral was long trodden underfoot and was badly worn in places. The figure is commonly known as ‘king john's daughter' but is probably the figure of Simon de Rochford the founder of the cathedral.
In the parish church in Newtown-Clonbun stands the remains of the tomb of Sir Lucas Dillon and his wife Lade Jane Bathe, daughter of James Bathe of Athcarne and Drunmconrath. The recumbent figures of Sir Lucas in Renaissance armour and his wife in Elizabethian gown surmount the tomb. This tomb is known locally as the tomb of the jealous man and woman because the two figures do not touch each other at all. And also the sword of state separates the figures.

Historic Scenic Trim Co Meath Ireland
We are down at the Knightsbrook Hotel Spa and Golf Resort Hotel Trim Co Meath for a few days. This is a glimpse at what you will find in and around the town of Trim. A small town of around 9000. The town has a lot of history, a large Norman castle, monastery, abbey, old graveyard, several other outstanding aged buildings, wonderful walks and scenery and great shopping and restaurants. Come and discover it for yourself.
Trim (Irish: Baile Átha Troim, meaning town at the ford of elderflowers)[3] is a town in County Meath, Ireland. It is situated on the River Boyne and has a population of 8,268. The town is noted for Trim Castle - the largest Cambro-Norman castle in Ireland. It was once the county town but today that honour belongs to Navan.

A Walk around the Norman Walls of Trim Castle Co Meath
Is this the largest Norman Castle by area in Ireland? I suspect so.
We are down at Trim Co Meath for a few days break. Trim has got a number of ancient ecclesiastical and castle sites within easy walking distance of the town. Here overlooking the River Boyne is the fantastic Norman Trim Castle featured in Mel Gibson's Braveheart film. With an area of 30,000 m², Trim Castle is the largest Cambro-Norman castle in Ireland. The design of the central three-story keep (also known as a donjon or great tower) is unique for a Norman keep being of cruciform shape, with twenty corners.
Trim Castle (Irish: Caisleán Bhaile Atha Troim) is a Norman castle on the south bank of the River Boyne in Trim, County Meath, Ireland. With an area of 30,000 m², it is the largest Norman castle in Ireland. Over a period of 30 years, it was built by Hugh de Lacy and his son Walter as the caput of the Lordship of Meath.
The castle site was chosen because it is on raised ground, overlooking a fording point on the River Boyne. The area was an important early medieval ecclesiastical and royal site that was navigable in medieval times by boat up the River Boyne, about 25 miles from the Irish Sea. Trim Castle is referred to in the Norman poem The Song of Dermot and the Earl.
During the late Middle Ages, Trim Castle was the centre of administration for Meath and marked the outer northern boundary of The Pale. In the 16th and 17th centuries it had declined in importance, except as a potentially important military site, and the castle was allowed to deteriorate. During the 15th century the Irish Parliament met in Trim Castle seven times and a mint operated in the castle.
The Castle fell into decline in the 16th century but was refortified during the Irish Confederate Wars in the 1640s. In 1649 after the sacking of Drogheda, the garrison of Trim fled to join other Irish forces and the place was occupied by the army of Oliver Cromwell.

Inverness Airport Station is Now Open
Time to take a visit to the newest station Britain, so up to Scotland I went along with Roger as we visited Inverness Airport station.
Opened on the 2nd February 2023 (and station number 2,574) it's on the existing line between Inverness and Aberdeen but is a short distance from the terminal building, so do you walk or get the bus? And just how 'Cookie Cutter' is it anyway ... ?
