Neptune has its roots in the ancient Antium. Antium was founded by people of Latin ethnicity at the beginning of the 1st millennium BC, and later it was occupied by the Volsci, who settled in the region at the beginning of the 5th century BC.

Adjacent to the medieval village there must have been a port, belonging to an oppidum called *Caenon* (Cenone), which since the Latin period served as a naval arsenal, as a forum for the market and as a warehouse for food.

Antium, which in the Volscian period opposed Rome for a long time, was for a long time the capital of the Volsci Anziati; the best known war of 489.499 b.C.
In 484 BC, in the territory in front of the city, the Volsci suffered a severe defeat in battle with the Roman legions, led by Lucio Emilio Mamercino, forcing them to make an embarrassing night escape.

In 469 BC, the Romans conquered and devastated the city. In 468 BC, after losing the battle of Antium, the Anziati surrendered to the Romans, who established an armed garrison in the city.

In 459 BC, in a bloody battle, the romans besieged and conquered again, after the ancient Volsci had rebelled; the city was plundered, and the main perpetrators of the revolt killed.
After long hostilities, the old city was definitively annexed to the Roman state.

???????????????????? ????????????
Antium hosted, among the most eminent Romans who built beautiful villas by the sea, Cicero and Maecenas. It was above all the emperors of the Julius-Claudian dynasty who had frequent contacts with the maritime city. Less than ten years after Nero's death, which occurred on June 9 of the year 68, Antium was already almost entirely in ruins.

That Nettuno, defined by the historian Giuseppe Tomassetti the true inhabited center...

Places to see in ( Anzio - Italy )

Places to see in ( Anzio - Italy )

Anzio is a city and comune on the coast of the Lazio region of Italy, about 51 kilometres (32 mi) south of Rome. Well known for its seaside harbour setting, it is a fishing port and a departure point for ferries and hydroplanes to the Pontine Islands of Ponza, Palmarola and Ventotene. The city bears great historical significance as the site of Operation Shingle, a crucial landing by the Allies during the Italian Campaign of World War II.

Anzio occupies a part of the ancient Antium territory. In ancient times, Antium was the capital of the Volsci people until it was conquered by the Romans. In some versions of Rome's foundation myth, Antium was founded by Anteias, son of Odysseus, and brother to Romulus, founder of Rome. In 493 BC the Roman consul Postumus Cominius Auruncus fought and defeated two armies from Antium, and as a result captured the Volscian towns of Longula, Pollusca and Corioli (to the north of Antium).

Anzio and Nettuno are also notable as sites of an Allied forces landing and the ensuing Battle of Anzio during World War II. The Commonwealth Anzio War Cemetery and Beach Head War Cemetery are located here. In February 1944 American soldiers (the U.S. Fifth Army) were surrounded by Germans in the caves of Pozzoli for a week, suffering heavy casualties. A film based on the events called Anzio (1968, directed by Edward Dmytryk) was made, starring Robert Mitchum and based on a book by Wynford Vaughan-Thomas.

Along the coast are numerous remains of Roman villas. One, the Domus Neroniana, has been identified as a residence of Nero. In Anzio can be found the Anzio Beachhead British Military Cemetery and a Beachhead Museum. The Sicily-Rome American Cemetery and Memorial is in nearby Nettuno. About 8 kilometres (5 miles) north of the town there is a WWF park with sulphur springs and a medieval tower, Tor Caldara.

Near the ruins of the Villa of Nero, in scenic position near the beach, lies the military sanatorium of the Italian army, one of the most important works of Florestano Di Fausto, built in 1930-33. All along the coast a large number of beaches and sea resorts can be found, including hotels and the famous fish restaurants of the port of Anzio. The city once hosted a Casino called Paradiso sul mare that is no longer active and now hosts cultural events. In the southern part of the town, close to the border with Nettuno, are many Italian art nouveau style houses.

Anzio is connected to Rome by the Via Nettunense (SS207), the Via Ardeatina (SS601) and by the Roma-Nettuno railway that connects Anzio with Roma Termini in around 40 minutes. The railway line also stops in the stations of Padiglione, Lido di Lavinio, Villa Claudia, Marechiaro, Anzio Colonia to the north of Anzio. Ferries and hydrofoils connect Anzio to Ponza.

( Anzio - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Anzio . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Anzio - Italy

CURIOSITIES ON BOLOGNA:

If the Torre degli Asinelli is the highest leaning medieval tower in the world, the leanest tower is its neighbor, the Garisenda tower, leaning 4 degrees against the 3.97 degrees of the Tower of Pisa.

Some of the most illustrious intellectuals of the past studied in Bologna, including: Dante Alighieri, Francesco Petrarca, Tommaso Becket, Paracelsus, Erasmus of Rotterdam, Niccolò Copernico and, in the musical field, Mozart, Verdi, Rossini, Wagner and Puccini.

Did you know who chose the colors of the Italian flag? Luigi Zamboni, an Italian patriot, who said: We join the white and red, the colors of our Bologna, with green, as a sign of the hope that all the Italian people will follow the national revolution we started..

Another travel tip if you are passionate about painting: visit the Basilica of San Martino, which over the centuries has been decorated by the greatest artists, who have made it a sort of art gallery.

The frieze L’incanto di Medea, a work by the Carracci at Palazzo Fava, is considered the first modern nude in the history of art.

It takes as many as 23 people to ring, in the “Bolognese style”, the bell mounted on top of the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Pietro. In the “Bolognese style” means in a cadenced way and with a complete rotation of the bell. The bell weighs 65 quintals!

Bologna was the only European city to absolve the Knights Templar, who were tortured and tried in all other major European cities.

The Italian Academy of Cuisine, together with the Tortellino Confraternity, has deposited the official size of tagliatelle in the medieval Palazzo della Mercanzia, which contains a golden sample of the tagliatelle, where the engraved inscription reads: 8 millimetres, size of the tagliatelle, 1972”. 8 millimeters corresponds to 12,270 parts of the height of the Asinelli Tower.

The Basilica of San Domenico, which was the court of the Inquisition, houses the tomb of Rolandino de' Passaggeri, a famous glossator. The glossators were jurists who, to make the ancient texts of Roman law clearer, added notes in the margins, called glossas. They were so respected in the city that their tombs, a unique case in Italy, were placed outdoors, in areas where they could be seen by everyone. Other examples can be found in Piazza Malpighi (Accursio, Odofredo and Rolandino de' Romanzi).

On the porticoes of Bologna: the porticoes in the thirteenth century were made of wood, and today it is still possible to observe them in their original guise in Casa Isolani in Strada Maggiore, Casa Grassi in via Marsala, Casa Azzoguidi in via San Nicolò and Casa Ramponesi in Via del Carro. The primacy of the largest portico goes to the fourteenth-century one of Santa Maria dei Servi in Strada Maggiore; the primacy of tallest is that of the Archdiocese building, in Via Altabella, with its almost 10 meters in height; the lowest is that of via Begatto, although each portico had to have the minimum height of a man on horseback. The longest arcades in the world are those of San Luca.

On the gates of Bologna:
- Porta San Vitale is known as the Porta per Ravenna, because a fundamental axis of the road to the ancient imperial capital started from here; it should be remembered that for centuries Bologna was part of the ecclesiastical province of the archdiocese of Ravenna.
- Porta Galliera could be called Porta della Rocca Ostile, due to its proximity to the Rocca di Galliera built several times and repeatedly demolished.
- Porta Lame is the Porta delle Acque, due to the presence of marshes and the port. In 1334 it was equipped with 2 drawbridges.
- Porta Saragozza could be called Sacred door or Pilgrims' door as it leads to the portico of San Luca.

Nettuno Italy ???????? 4K Beach and Old Town Walking Tour 2023

This is a walking tour in Nettuno, Italy around the beaches and the old town. Nettuno is a charming coastal town located in the Lazio region of central Italy. It is situated on the Tyrrhenian Sea, approximately 60 kilometers south of Rome. Nettuno is part of the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital and has a population of around 50,000 residents.

The town is known for its picturesque landscapes, beautiful beaches, and historical attractions. One of its main highlights is the medieval old town, characterized by narrow cobblestone streets, ancient buildings, and a charming atmosphere. Here, visitors can explore the narrow alleys, visit quaint shops, and enjoy traditional Italian cuisine in the local restaurants and trattorias.

Nettuno is also famous for its stunning coastline, offering several kilometers of sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. The town attracts tourists and locals alike, especially during the summer months when visitors can enjoy sunbathing, swimming, and water sports.

One of the most iconic landmarks in Nettuno is the 15th-century fortress called Forte Sangallo, situated on a hill overlooking the sea. The fortress provides panoramic views of the town and is a popular spot for tourists to visit.

Another notable attraction is the American War Cemetery, located just outside Nettuno. This cemetery is the final resting place for thousands of American soldiers who lost their lives during the liberation of Italy in World War II. It serves as a memorial to honor their sacrifice and is open to the public.

Nettuno also hosts several cultural events and festivals throughout the year, including music concerts, art exhibitions, and traditional celebrations. The most famous festival is the Festa della Madonna delle Grazie, held in August, featuring religious processions, fireworks, and lively street performances.

In terms of transportation, Nettuno is well-connected to Rome and other neighboring towns. There is a regular train service that operates between Nettuno and Rome, making it convenient for day trips to the capital city.
