Saint Petersburg Russia Travel Guide | Sinhala Travel Vlog | Sri Lankan Travel Couple (ENG.SUB)

This video is a travel guide to Saint Petersburg city in Russia. The city has also been formally called as Leningrad. Saint Petersburg is located very closely to Nordic countries like Finland.

There are plenty of places to visit in Saint Petersburg. State Hermitage founded in 1764 is the second largest art museum in the world. Winter Palace was the official residence of the Russian Tsar Emperors and now it serves as one of the buildings of the museum. There are lot of ancient and architecturally unique cathedrals in Saint Petersburg. We visited Saint Isaac's cathedral and the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood. The interior of these structures have been designed by some of the most celebrated Russian artists such as Karl Pavlovich Bryullov, Viktor Vasnetsov, Mikhail Nesterov and Mikhail Vrubel.

We also tried Russian dumplings which are called Pelmeni from Pelmenya restaurant located in Saint Petersburg.

In 1703, The Tsar Emperor Peter the Great makes Saint Petersburg his capital. Saint Petersburg was turned into a city which was completely built according to a plan. A network of canals was built as part of the plan around River Neva and other rivers. Intention was to develop Saint Petersburg as a port city. River Neva is the main river flowing through Saint Petersburg which is the fourth largest river in Europe in terms of average discharge.

Palace Square is the centre of Saint Petersburg. General Staff building and Alexander Column are some of the iconic structures built here.

The main street in Saint Petersburg is Nevsky Prospekt. A good way to explore Saint Petersburg is the city tour bus. During city tour, you can see Stroganov Palace, Kazan Cathedral, Elisseeff Emporium, Anichkov Bridge and a monument to Catherine the Great. You can also see a number of ancient cathedrals, churches and structures built in 18 and 19 century. You may stop by to explore these attractions.

During our stay, we also tried Russian dumplings which are called Pelmeni from Pelmenya restaurant located in Saint Petersburg

MAP OF SUMY UKRAINE

hello hello my friends. this is a map of beautiful Sumy. Sumy is a city in north-eastern Ukraine, and the capital of Sumy Oblast (region). Sumy also serves as the administrative center of Sumy Raion of Sumy oblast. Sumy is administratively incorporated as a city of oblast significance and does not belong to the surrounding raion. The population estimate is 259,660 (2021 est.)

The city of Sumy was founded in the 1650s by the Cossacks within the region of Sloboda Ukraine. On the banks of Psel River, the city is also at the intersection of several other major transportation routes for the oblast and north-eastern Ukraine. Notable infrastructure includes Sumy Airport and railway junction for the Southern Railways at Sumy railway station. There is a Sumy Airport in the city. Built in 1978, since 2006 it has been an international airport and received flights from outside Ukraine.
There are several railway stations in the city, two of which serve passenger trains. All stations are part of the UZ regional branch Southern Railways. Sumy railway station also is headquarters of one of four territorial subdivisions of the Southern Railways and conducts supervision over some other 45 stations in Sumy, Poltava, and Kharkiv oblasts.
There are two major routes that cross the city H07 (Kyiv–Yunakivka at Russian border) and H12 (Sumy–Poltava). There are also few regional routes P44 (Sumy–Hlukhiv), P45 (Sumy–Bohodukhiv), and P61 (Sumy–Baturyn). thanks for listening. if you made it all the way until the end, you will probably be the first ever. hahaha. hehehe. don't laugh. if you laugh you must subscribe to this channel FOR THE BEST MAPS, AND FOR THE LOVE OF SUMY. #sumymap #sumymapa , The city center is dominated by the large cathedral of the Savior's Transfiguration. It is a neoclassical structure of the 18th century, extensively repaired and reconstructed in 1858 and in the 1880s, when the 56-meter-high bell tower (180 ft) was added. The interior features frescoes by Vladimir Makovsky and Klavdiy Lebedev.
The Resurrection Church (1702), the oldest structure in the town, is still in fair preservation, owing to recent restoration work.
The cathedral of the monastery of St. Pantaleon was erected in 1911 to a design by Aleksey Shchusev and was scored to resemble medieval monuments of Novgorod and Pskov.
A lovely church of Saints Peter and Paul is in the town’s cemetery. It was built in 1851 on the donations of Sumy citizens. Beside the church there are tombs of the Kharytonenkos and Sukhanovs with artistic monuments by sculptors - A. Croisy and M. Antokolski.
The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity was built in 1902–1914 on the same pattern as the Cathedral of St. Isaac in St. Petersburg. The author of the design was Sumy architect G. Sholts. It was built at the expense of Pavlo Kharitonenko, the local manufacturer and Maecenas who fulfilled his father's last will. Icon-painting is by famous artist M. Nesterov. The work on the decorative design was not completed because of the revolutionary events of 1917.
Museums

Local Museum
The Sumy Regional Art Museum was opened in 1920. It was started from nationalized private collections of the town and district. Paintings of Taras Shevchenko, Vladimir Borovikovsky, I. Shyskin, Arkhip Kuindzhi and Tetyana Yablonska are on display, including a Dutch landscape by a painter of Jan van Goyen's circle. Today the museum contains unique paintings and works of applied art. The building of the early 20th century originally belonged to the State Bank.

The Museum of Local Lore was opened in 1920. In the years of fascist occupation, the most important items of its collections were lost. Today it contains unique collections covering archeology and natural history of the Sumy region. It is located in the 19th century building which was originally the seat of the district government. In 1905 it was given to the printing house and publishing house of the first Sumy newspapers. In different years the building was visited by A. Kuprin and V. Korolenko, the famous Russian writers.

The Chekhov Museum, located in Chekhov street, is an architectural complex representing Lintvarev's country estate of the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1888 and 1889 a great writer and playwright Anton Chekhov was dreaming to settle in Luka forever but his dream did not come true. Abbacia and the Adriatic Sea are wonderful, but Luka and Psiol are better - he wrote in his letter from Italy to his friends in Sumy in 1894. This is also a place where Anton Chekhov's brother, Nikolai Chekhov, died in 1889.

The Museum of Banking history in the Sumy region and the History of Ukrainian Money was founded in 2006 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Ukrainian Academy of Banking on the basis of a unique collection of Ukrainian bonds - the paper money out of circulation, which were given to the academy by the National Bank of Ukraine. The exposition of the bonds is arranged in the thematic-chronological order.

St. Isaac’s Cathedral and Church of Our Saviour on Spilled Blood - Saint Petersburg, Russia.
St. Isaac's Cathedral:
St. Isaac's Cathedral was originally the city's main church and the largest cathedral in Russia. It was built between 1818 and 1858, by the French-born architect Auguste Montferrand, to be one of the most impressive landmarks of the Russian Imperial capital. One hundred and eighty years later the gilded dome of St. Isaac's still dominates the skyline of St. Petersburg.

The cathedral's facades are decorated with sculptures and massive granite columns (made of single pieces of red granite), while the interior is adorned with incredibly detailed mosaic icons, paintings and columns made of malachite and lapis lazuli. A large, brightly colored stained glass window of the Resurrected Christ takes pride of place inside the main altar. The church, designed to accommodate 14,000 standing worshipers, was closed in the early 1930s and reopened as a museum. Today, church services are held here only on major ecclesiastical occasions.

Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood:
The Church of the Resurrection, also known as the Savior on Spilled Blood, was built in memory of Alexander II who was assassinated in 1881. The church stands in the very place where a bomb was thrown into his carriage by a young man who opposed the Tsar's reforms.

Alexander II is among the greatest Russian tsars, one of his main accomplishments was the emancipation of serfs in 1861, which brought an end to the de facto slavery of the Russian peasantry, five years before the emancipation of slaves in the US.

The Cathedral of the Savior on Spilled Blood attracts people with its five onion-domes exuberantly decorated and covered in jeweler's enamel. Its peculiar multicolored exterior makes it stand out from St. Petersburg’s typically strict architectural proportions and color combinations.

The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood took 24 years to construct and, after early Soviet vandalism, 27 years to restore. People would even joke that as soon as the construction trestles outside were removed, the Soviet Regime would fall. It may have been a coincidence, but the reconstruction that finished in 1991 was followed by the famous events which put an end to the Communist regime.

The highlight of both the interior and exterior of the Cathedral are its mosaic collection based on the paintings of Vasnetsov, Nesterov, and Vrubel. With a total area of 23130 square feet, it is one of the largest mosaic collections in Europe.

The Cathedral is decorated with Italian limestone and various semiprecious stones like jasper, mountain crystal, topaz, and others. On the outside, there are twenty granite plates which tell the most important events of Alexander II's reign.

/// Bolshaya Pushkarskaya Street emerged in the first half of the 18th century. It was inhabited by workers of the cannon business, which is why the name of the street came about. In 1751, the name Pushkarskaya Street appeared. As a result of the disorderly development, it was a narrow, uncomfortable street. In 1849, there were two stone residential buildings on the street. 38 houses were wooden. Bolshaya Pushkarskaya Street in St. Petersburg began to develop intensively at the end of the 19th century. Now Bolshaya Pushkarskaya is one of the three main transport arteries. The traffic is one-way. The street is built up mainly with apartment buildings. Before the foundation of the city, there were about 40 small settlements on this territory! Throughout the early 19th century, smoking was prohibited on the streets! Most of the houses were built of wood.

The Church of Our Savior on the Spilled Blood, St. Petersburg, Russia

This marvelous Russian-style church was built on the spot where Emperor Alexander II was assassinated in March 1881. After assuming power in 1855 in the wake of Russia’s disastrous defeat in the Crimean war against Britain, France and Turkey, Alexander II initiated a number of reforms. In 1861 he freed the Russian serfs (peasants, who were almost enslaved to their owners) from their ties to their masters and undertook a rigorous program of military, judicial and urban reforms, never before attempted in Russia. However, during the second half of his reign Alexander II grew wary of the dangers of his system of reforms, having only barely survived a series of attempts on his life, including an explosion in the Winter Palace and the derailment of a train. Alexander II was finally assassinated in 1881 by a group of revolutionaries, who threw a bomb at his royal carriage.

The decision was taken to build a church on the spot where the Emperor was mortally wounded. The church was built between 1883 and 1907 and was officially called the Resurrection of Christ Church (a.k.a. The Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood ). The construction of the church was almost entirely funded by the Imperial family and thousands of private donators. Both the interior and exterior of the church is decorated with incredibly detailed mosaics, designed and created by the most prominent Russian artists of the day (V.M. Vasnetsov, M.V. Nesterov and M.A. Vrubel). Interestingly, despite the church’s very obviously Russian aspect, its principle architect, A. Parland, was not even Russian by birth.
