Vava'u, Tonga Overview and Culture

From the Global Village Travel Guide and DVD, Islands of the South Pacific. Stock footage available from
Transcript:
112 klms' north of TongaTapu is the VAVA'U Group.
This set of 34 raised limestone isles, has a tremendous
coastline with gorgeous white sand beaches and lots of
hideaways to explore.
The Tongans were visited by a great many Pacific explorers
and were a popular port of call. Captain Cook called them the
friendly isles.
The town of Neiafu is a bustling marketplace
on weekdays and Saturdays.
But never on Sunday!

It is actually against the law for a Tongan to engage in business
of any kind on Sunday -- a prohibition laid down by the Christian
missionaries who were among the first Westerners to settle here.
Dancing and singing were such a strong element in Polynesian
life that when Christianity denied them these forms of expression
they redirected their energy to embrace Christian hymns.

The BEST WAY to travel Vava'u, Tonga | Traveling Tonga Day 9

The best way to travel Vava'u, Tonga, is by scooter! We rented the only scooter on the whole island from Vava'u Adventures and took it around about half of the island for the day. We went through a bunch of little towns and found a couple of beaches that we had all to ourselves! Hopefully the drone footage gives you an idea of what a beautiful country Tonga is! Please give this video a thumbs up and SUBSCRIBE if you really liked it =)

TONGA'S MOST BEAUTIFUL RESORT | Traveling Tonga Day 10

On our last Sunday in Tonga we spent most of the day at the beautiful Tongan Beach Resort. In the morning, we decided to attend a church service to see what Tongan church was like, since it is such a large part of their culture. We spent the rest of the day exploring Vava'u and hanging out at the Resort, which is one of the only places open on Sunday. Resort is a very loose term in Tonga...the resorts in Tonga are often just guesthouses, and nothing like the typical resorts that we think of as Westerners.
Stay tuned for day 11 and 12 where we will be leaving Neiafu and going to a more remote location. Thanks for watching everyone!

Market Tour | Vava'u Island Tonga South Pacific

Please share & subscribe! YOU MAY NEVER PASS THIS WAY AGAIN....

Fresh market shops line the streets in Vava'u Tonga.
You can buy just about anything. I was there in August and there were pineapples, bananas, t-shirts new and used, umbrellas, flip-flops, you name it and they pretty much had it there!

This video was shot on my last day in Neiafu, Vava'u. Just walking around the town and down the main streets. Neiafu is very small. Very quaint and a perfect place to just get away from it all.

I would highly recommend a visit to this incredible island if you are looking for places to visit in the south pacific.

Oh yeah, you won't want to miss out on this!

Neiafu, Vava'u, Tonga, Polynesia

Please share & subscribe! YOU MAY NEVER PASS THIS WAY AGAIN....

Far into the South Pacific Islands lies the beautiful island of Vava'u in the amazingly friendly country of Tonga.

On this day, we took a drive around the main city on Vava'u, Neiafu. The children happen to be going to school and the was band playing. What a cheerful and beautiful experience it was.

One thing I noticed when visiting this beautiful island paradise is that everyone seemed to be smiling, like ALL the time. And more times than not, they waved too.

What a treat it was to catch these kiddos on their way to school.
Another day I saw them out front praying for like 20 minutes and it was raining pretty hard. Now that is awesome.

Kingdom of Tonga Vavau Island Group South Pacific Travel Destination

Tonga is a magnificently beautiful country. The Kingdom is a constitutional Monarchy, modeled after England and uses English law as its base. Located in the grand South Pacific, Tonga is between Tahiti and Fiji, an independent island nation in the southern Pacific Ocean, located approximately 650 km (approximately 400 mi) southeast of Fiji and approximately 1,850 km (approximately 1,150 mi) northeast of New Zealand. Tonga is the only remaining Polynesian monarchy. The Vava’u Island Group. This Cluster of islands, North of the Ha’apai Group, is the most spectacular in Tonga. Vava’u is Tonga’s northern island group, made up of over 60 high and thickly forested isles. An attractive, rather hilly main island surrounded by many others, Vava’u has high cliffs which combine to create many deep fiord-like bays. There are many good beaches but you will have to look for them. The main town of Neiafu is built on a hillside facing Port of Refuge Harbor, one of the best in the South Pacific. Neiafu, the administrative capitol of the Vava‘u Island Group, is one of Tonga’s principal ports. Rich, volcanic soils help make agriculture the primary economic activity in the islands, and products include copra, vanilla, and pumpkins. Vava’u Island is rather large and has kilometer after kilometer of beautiful countryside making for some interesting bicycle rides.
