EL NIDO: The ULTIMATE Guide to PARADISE of the Philippines, Palawan in 4K

El Nido is the paradise of the Philippines. Nowhere on earth are the islands so beautiful, the lagoons so blue and the jungle so green! Join us on a tour through the north of Palawan, one of the world's most special and natural islands. We will visit the Secret Lagoon, Small Lagoon, Big Lagoon, Cadlao Island, Shimizu Island, Miniloc, Bokal Island, Nacpan Beach, Las Cabanas, Marimegmeg Beach and many more!

Earlier you also saw us visiting Bohol, an island with an equally unique nature. You saw the Chocolate Hills and the special tarsiers there. We flew to Palawan and visited one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World: the Underground River. There we stayed on the beach in Puerto Princesa and took you on a tour through the tropical rainforest, the mangrove forests, the open sea and the underground river.

We make our trip through the Philippines during a world tour of one and a half years. We may even continue to travel indefinitely. On New Year's Day we started in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands. Then you saw us in Oman, Cape Verde, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Tobago, Grenada, the Bahamas, the United States, Mexico, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Brazil, Qatar, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Australia. The next continent Asia and Bohol is already our twentieth destination. We have also been away from home for a year. Follow us on this world tour, first in the Philippines, from Bohol to Palawan and then to many more beautiful destinations! We also cross over to Africa! We travel non-stop all year round and film everything, with a new episode every week. Also take a look at instagram @woutoftheworld or

This travel vlog is about our 2 night stay at The Funny Lion - El Nido. Our stay at this El Nido hotel was actually unplanned. We were suppose to stay on a different resort but the plan did not materialize (due to some unfortunate events). But God is really good as he directed us to this beautiful hotel in El Nido, Palawan.

Number 1 Hotel in El Nido (TripAdvisor)
We've been to Coron twice and have seen The Funny Lion Coron but we've never had a chance to stay there. So, when we were stuck in El Nido Airport (Lio Airport), Jen suggested that there's Funny Lion in El Nido. She immediately called and the reception (her name is Feb) was very helpful. We then decided to initially book for an overnight stay. :)

To our surprise, The Funny Lion El Nido Philippines is the #1 rated hotel in El Nido, Palawan. And the hotel truly did not disappoint!

The Funny Lion is a hotel chain. We've visited The Funny Lion Coron and The Funny Lion Puerto Princesa is on our bucketlist.

Palawan Island in the Philippines is a true tropical paradise and the largest island in Palawan province. It's a long, stunning island that runs from the north-east to the south-west, surrounded by the South China Sea and the Sulu Sea. Even though it's the fifth-largest island in the Philippines, being about 450 kilometers long and 50 kilometers wide, it's kept its natural, untouched beauty. Many find their dream tropical escape here, with its perfect mix of white sandy beaches, mountains, and jungles, not to mention an impressive range of wildlife. Despite its popularity with tourists, Palawan Island has stayed beautifully undeveloped. High mountains rise straight from the sea, with the tallest peak, Mount Mantalingaham, reaching 2,086 meters. The sea around the island is just as spectacular, boasting coral reefs, rocky coves, and even an underground river, making it a haven for explorers and beach lovers alike.

If you do decide to venture here, just know that tourism isn't a thing quite yet. Be patient, be flexible and always be respectful towards the locals!

Are you considering a move to the beautiful Philippine island of Palawan? Is it a good idea? Below are 10 tips for expats who have decided to take the plunge and make their home on this stunning tropical island.

Know the Local Language

One of the most important things that can help any expat during their stay in Palawan is to learn the local language. Although English is widely spoken by locals, there are some areas where only Tagalog or Visayan is spoken. Knowing at least basic phrases will help you greatly in your daily interactions with local people and businesses.

Acquire Social Connections

Another essential tip for living as an expat in Palawan is to acquire social connections with locals as soon as possible. It's important to find someone that shares common interests, since developing relationships creates strong bonds and helps to make life abroad more enjoyable.

Research Accommodation Options

Before moving to Palawan, it's important to research all of your accommodation options beforehand so that you can ensure that you find the best fit for your lifestyle and budget requirements. From beachfront apartments to luxurious villas, there are plenty of great housing options available on the islands so be sure to do some research beforehand so you don’t miss out on these wonderful opportunities!

Get Involved Locally

One of the best ways to get settled into life as an expat in Palawan is by getting involved locally within the community or culture that resides there. This could be anything from joining a club or group related to your interests or activities such as yoga groups, sports teams, cooking classes, pottery classes etc; doing volunteer work; attending festivals and events; visiting churches; going on sightseeing trips etc - all these things are fun activities which create great memories!

Adjust To The Weather

One thing all new expats must keep in mind when living in Palawan is adjusting themselves to the weather conditions which vary significantly depending on where they live on the island - from sunny beaches near Puerto Princesa City to rainy highlands near Kalabakan Hill above El Nido town! It’s essential that you prepare yourself with suitable clothing and items like sunscreen, mosquito repellants, umbrellas & raincoats etc depending upon where you plan on residing during your stay here!

Staying Healthy In The Tropics

Healthcare facilities may not be up-to-date with western standards here but if needed there are hospitals located within cities such as Puerto Princesa city where medical personnel speak English fluently & all types of health care services can be found fairly easily – making access quick & stress free! Additionally its always advised when travelling abroad (especially within tropical countries) that one takes precautionary measures against waterborne/airborne illnesses like Dengue fever & Malaria by taking necessary vaccines before traveling!

Invest In Home Security

Due to Pallawans ever changing laws it’s important for expats who invest in properties here - both residential & commercial - should invest in good home security systems such as deadbolt locks combined with additional modern devices like burglar alarms due lack of proper law enforcement teams present within certain parts of this island nation – even though crime rates remain low overall compared other southeast Asian countries neighboring us – it pays off being extra cautious when dealing with such issues especially for foreign citizens living long terms here!

Learn About Traditional Customs/Cultures

It's important to remember that customs and cultures vary drastically between the different towns in Pallawan, so if you're planning a long-term stay, it's best to get familiar with the culture of the area. For example, formal Filipino is still widely spoken amongst locals, even though English is widely understood throughout Palawan, apart from some rural parts which may have been heavily influenced by European and American involvement over the last century.

Don’t Overlook Adventure Opportunities

Aside from the magnificent views of South East Asia's largest untouched jungle and pristine white sandy beaches surrounding it, Pallawans also offers its visitors a rich cultural heritage. Many of the islanders still cling to their traditional lifestyles, allowing visitors to observe and interact with them up close. There are also numerous adventure programs that allow you to experience the true beauty of this region beneath the sea surface through scuba diving day trips conducted by experienced instructors.
