10 Best Places to Visit in China - Travel Video

Check out all the places seen in this video:

China, the gateway to East Asia, is a fascinating country. It is an ancient civilization that gave the world Peking Man, gunpowder and noodles. Visitors making their first trip to China usually stick to the larger cities. More experienced visitors to the Middle Kingdom will strike out in other directions, where traveling may be a bit more frustrating because of the language barrier, but most definitely doable for independent travelers. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in China:

Top 7 Things to do in Taipei, TAIWAN

Taipei unexpectedly turned out to be one of our favourite destinations in Asia. Some of the places on this list were absolutely magical. This Taiwan series is the last of our videos during our time overseas before we had to scramble to get back into NZ amidst all the travel restrictions that were popping up daily.

If you're planning a trip to Taiwan and Taipei, we hope you'll find our Top Things to do in Taipei travel guide handy. There are a bunch of must see places in Taipei, these were our faves.

Starting things off we head over to Daan Forest Park, the largest park in Taipei. Peter had an amazing close encounter with a parrot which he befriended. We were pleasantly surprised by the wildlife at Daan Park. Definitely a must visit for nature lovers.

Daan Forest Park
Address: No. 1號, Section 2, Xinsheng South Road, Da’an District, Taipei City, Taiwan 106

Next up we head to a famous town called Shifen. Shifen is best known for two things, Shifen Waterfall and Shifen Old Street. Shifen waterfall is Taiwan's broadest waterfall. It's also known as Little Niagara of Taiwan, while Shifen Old Street is where sky lanterns get released (which we opted not to do for environmental reasons). While at Shifen Old Street, there's also nice scenery, snacks and gift shops to enjoy.

Shifen Waterfall and Shifen Old Street are however very close to one another though and they were both part of our transportation package together with Jiufen.

Shifen Waterfall
Address: 226, Taiwan, New Taipei City, Pingxi District, 乾坑10號

Shifen Old Street
Address: 226, Taiwan, New Taipei City, Pingxi District

After visiting Shifen, we headed over to one of the most magical places we've ever been - Jiufen. If you love the Japanese animated movie Spirited Away you will love Jiufen because there is definitely something special about this village that really resembles the famous Studio Ghilbi anime.

Jiufen is commonly misconceived to be the inspiration for the town and bathhouse in Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away, however Miyazaki has said it wasn't but the place really does bear a resemblance and gives you the Spirited Away vibes. It's no wonder so many people flock to Jiufen, Taiwan and have dubbed it the Real Life Spirited Away.

Jiufen
Ruifang District, New Taipei City, Taiwan 224

To get to these places you can take public transport, however we found a shuttle bus option offered by Klook which made getting to Shifen and Jiufen much more convenient and relaxing.

Another must do activity when you're in Taipei or Taiwan, is visit a Taiwanese night market. There are a ton of nightmarkets to visit in Taipei, but for this video we went to Tonghua night market. It's also known as Linjiang night market. Tonghua is a much more local night market than others in Taipei so it's less crowded compared to the far more popular tourist night markets such as Shilin and Raohe. Nothing beats a hot lu rou fan on a cool night and the smell of the stinky tofu will either repel or make you salivate.

Tonghua / Linjiang Night Market
Address: Alley 1, Lane 40, Linjiang Street, Da’an District, Taipei City, Taiwan 106
Hours: 6pm–midnight

Often hailed as one of the top must visit attractions of Taipei, is the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (CSK Memorial Hall) is the most prominent historical landmark in Taiwan. At the complex, you'll also see the Liberty Arches as well as the National Concert Hall and National Theatre.

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall
Address: No. 21號, Zhongshan South Road, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City, Taiwan 100
Hours: Monday - Sunday 9am–6pm

Did you know that many of the treasures from the Forbidden Palace are actually located in Taipei, Taiwan? Check them out at the National Palace Museum. Definitely another popular must visit attraction in Taipei.

National Palace Museum
Address: No. 221, Sec 2, Zhi Shan Rd, Shilin District, Taipei City, Taiwan 111
Hours: Monday - Sunday 8:30am–9pm

Finally for a majestic view of Taipai city and Taipei 101 you can take a brisk hike up Elephant Mountain, also known as Xiangshan.

Elephant Mountain is located in Xinyi District, Taipei, Taiwan.

A Brief History of Yunnan Garden I SINGAPORE Heritage Garden I Nanyang Technological University NTU

Yunnan Garden has a history dated back to 1950s when Nanyang University, or NanTah for short, first started. This Park has come a long way since then and has been recently renovated to remain relevant to the modern days. You should visit here for its stunning views, a walk in Nature is so rewarding, especially if you’re a fan of traditional Chinese gardens. To learn more about the historic Chinese heritage, visit the Chinese Heritage Centre just next to the garden. Yunnan Garden is certainly a very underrated park, hidden within Nanyang Technology University NTU campus. There are lots of walking trails here, and each trail has a different theme. You can see various plants or explore ways that could improve the environment. We certainly find this garden a great place to spend some quiet time alone and satisfy our wanderlust.

YUNNAN GARDEN & NANYANG LAKE, NTU

Built in the 1950s, Yunnan Garden was a key attraction of the Nanyang University campus, the land on which NTU now sits. Today, it is seamlessly integrated with the Chinese Heritage Centre and an expanded Nanyang Lake following the diversion of a stretch of Nanyang Drive in front of the Chinese Heritage Centre, which now runs alongside the Pan-Island Expressway.
The 5.6m-tall waterfall brings the expanded Nanyang Lake into Yunnan Garden. Water flows through it to the wetlands in the lower garden as part of a stormwater management system that collects and purifies rainwater. Artificial wetlands with layers of sand and gravel not only filter the water in Nanyang Lake but are also habitats for flora and fauna.

Xiangyang, Hubei???????? One of the Top Ten Ancient Cities in China (4K HDR)

Xiangyang City, referred to as Xiang, once known as Xiangzhou and Xiangfan, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hubei Province, the People's Republic of China. It is located in the northern part of Hubei Province, on the upper reaches of the Han River. The city borders Shiyan City and Shennongjia Forest District in the west, Yichang City in the southwest, Jingmen City in the southeast, Suizhou City in the east, and Nanyang City in Henan Province in the north. It is located in the upper reaches of the Hanshui River, a tributary of the Yangtze River, at the junction of Hubei and Henan provinces, with Wudang Mountains and Jingdong East in the west, Tongbai Mountain in the northeast, Dahong Mountain in the southeast, and Xiangyang Basin in the middle. The Han River runs obliquely through the whole area from northwest to southeast, and its tributaries are Tangbai River, Nan River, Man River, Qing River, and Gun River. The city has a total area of 19,728 square kilometers and a population of 5.26 million. The Municipal People's Government is located in Xiangcheng District. Xiangyang is a famous historical and cultural city in the country, known as Xiangyang of iron, the first city in China, and a place that must be contested by military strategists. Since ancient times, Xiangyang has been divided into two cities, Xiangcheng and Fancheng, on the north and south banks of the Han River (Mian River). They face each other across the Han River. Both cities were once important military and commercial cities in history. After 1949, the two cities were merged into one and called Xiangfan City. On November 26, 2010, with the approval of the State Council, Xiangfan City was renamed Xiangyang City, and Xiangyang District was renamed Xiangzhou District. On December 9, 2010, Xiangfan City officially changed its name to Xiangyang City.

The development of Xiangyang City began when the Western Zhou Dynasty enfeoffed the State of Deng in the present city of Xiangyang, and from Jingzhou Mu Liubiao moved to govern Xiangyang. Xiangyang has always been the government, road, state, road, and county seat. More than 200 cultural relics of various periods have been identified in the city, some of which are the largest in the world. Xiangyang has always been a battleground for military strategists. In the 3,000-year history, there have been countless large and small battles. The famous battles include the battle of Baiqishui flooding Yancheng, the battle of Guan Yu's flooding of the Seventh Army, the battle of Zhu Xu's resistance to Fu Pi, the battle of Yue Fei's recovery of Xiangyang, and the battle of Xiangfan in Song and Yuan Dynasties. The battle of Li Zicheng's occupation of Xiangyang, etc. During this period, Xiangyang is rich in humanities, brilliant like stars, with a long history, splendid culture, and numerous talents, leaving a large number of scenic spots and historical sites and anecdotes and legends for Xiangyang. It has always been known as an ancient cultural city.
