南天寺 Nan Tien Temple, Largest Buddhist Temple in Southern Hemisphere, Wollongong NSW Australia 2021

#cny2021 #lunarnewyear #sydneywalking #walkingtour #sydney #australia #walking #driving #sydneydriving #sydneytravel

Happy Lunar New Year!
Today we are visiting Nan Tian Temple, the largest temple not only in Australia but also in southern hemisphere.

Nan Tien Temple (Chinese: 南天寺; pinyin: Nántiān Sì; lit. 'Southern Heaven Temple') is a Buddhist temple complex located in Berkeley, on the southern outskirts of the Australian city of Wollongong, approximately 80 kilometres (50 mi) south of Sydney.

Nan Tien is one of the branch temples of the Taiwanese Fo Guang Shan Buddhist order, founded in 1967 by Hsing Yun, which has over 120 branches worldwide. The temple is one of the largest Buddhist temples in the southern hemisphere.

It was founded by and constructed under the auspices of the Mahayana Buddhist organization known as Fo Guang Shan, and completed in 1995. The organization itself was founded in Taiwan in 1967 by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, and has 120 branches throughout the world. Fo Guang Shan Buddhism is rooted in the Mahayana tradition which emphasises that Buddhahood is within everyone's potential reach. Fo Guang Shan followers strive to bring Buddhism into daily life and describe their philosophy as Humanistic Buddhism.

The site of the Australian branch's temple was reputedly chosen by Hsing Yun due to its proximity to Mount Kembla, which is said to have an auspicious resemblance to a recumbent lion. It overlooks both Mount Keira and Mount Kembla. The land which the temple stands on was donated by Frank Arkell. The hill behind the temple is on a 100 year lease from the local government so as to preserve the serenity of the temple's surroundings. The temple pays a rent of one dollar a year to maintain the lease.

The Nan Tien complex is a Chinese-styled palace structure built using modern architectural techniques. Designed by Australian architects, Jones Brewster Regan and built by Australian construction workers, it occupies a semi-rural hillside site several square kilometres in size, and is set amidst landscaped gardens.

In addition to various meeting rooms, a museum, cultural, conference and accommodation facilities and a restaurant, the Nan Tien temple complex includes two massive prayer halls (known as the Great Mercy Shrine and the Great Hero Hall) within which are located multiple monumental Buddha and Bodhisattva statues, as well as an eight-level pagoda, serving as a columbarium intended to house the cremated remains of 7000 people. The front hall houses the Thousand Handed Avalokitesvara (known as Kuan Yin in Chinese culture) and the main hall in the back houses the Five Dhyani Buddhas, Amogasiddhi, Ratnasambhava, Vairocana, Amitabha and Akshobhya. Both halls have thousands of tiny statues of Buddha on the walls. The complex also has amenities for monks, nuns and visitors, and a large garden with a pagoda.

The architecture of the complex is notable because it incorporates the features of several styles of Buddhism. The pagoda is distinctly Chinese, with flying eaves and an angular profile. The main temples incorporates features of Tibetan monastic architecture, with multi-storey painted temple buildings set atop high stone platforms (see the Potala Palace). The courtyards feature Japanese-style gardens, while the statues and shrines often incorporate bright, South-East Asian colour schemes, in contrast to the more austere styles favoured in China.

The temple is one of Wollongong's major tourist attractions, and conducts regular weekend retreats for visitors interested in Buddhism in general, and Chinese culture in particular. Retreats can involve classes in t'ai chi, calligraphy and meditation.

Accommodation for retreat participants and members of the general public is available at the Pilgrim Lodge, a 100-room motel-style facility located in the temple grounds adjacent to its large lotus pond.

It is regarded as an orthodox Buddhist temple by local Chinese Buddhists, in contrast with some other shrines which worship Buddhist, Taoist, and mystical heroes in the same building. It frequently hosts festivals.

Shoyoen Garden

Shōyō-en is a Japanese garden located next to the treasure` Hall of Rinnō-ji Temple in Nikkō. It was constructed in early Edo period, but reformed in the beginning of 19th century. The garden was given its name by a Confucian scholar Issai Sato. There is a pond containing carp in the middle. Stone Lanterns, bridges, bamboo fences, a pagoda, and a small tea house adorn the garden.

Rinnoji Temple

Like the neighboring Toshogu Shrine , elaborate, gilded carvings distinguish Rinnoji Temple, which enshrines the three Buddhas of the mountains behind it. Founded by the monk Shodo Shonin, it is Nikko's most important Buddhist temple.Founded in 766 by the Buddhist monk Shodo Shonin, it is still used for ascetic training among Tendai monks. Major renovation of the building ended in 2020 and the whole site is now opened to the public.

The most impressive sight at Rinnoji Temple is the three gilded Buddha statues, each 7.5 meters tall. The three statues represent the deities of the three mountains of Nikko, Mt. Nantai, Mt. Nyoho and Mt. Taro. Both Rinnoji Temple and Futarasan-jinja Shrine were founded by the Buddhist priest Shodo Shonin as places of worship in the mountains. This temple is a notable example of how the two religions co-exist in Japan. Surrounded by towering cedar trees and lush forests, the whole area is especially impressive with the fall colors.

Toshogu Shrine

One of the greatest World Heritage Sites in Japan, Nikko Toshogu is a shrine dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the Shogun active in the 15th -16th century. The highlight of Nikko Toshogu is, without a doubt, its magnificent buildings in the temple precincts. Among 55 buildings, 8 are designated as National Treasures while 34 are designated as Important Cultural Properties. In addition to this, Nikko Toshogu is known as one of the strongest spiritual places in Japan.

Toshogu is a large and lavish shrine located in Nikko National Park in Tochigi Prefecture in the north of Tokyo. This extensive set of richly decorated buildings is organized around the mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu a prominent feudal lord. The religious complex, both Shinto and Buddhist has been undergoing renovation works since 2007.

Dozens of variously-sized buildings, each more richly decorated than the last, spread over these extensive premises in the heart of the forest of Nikko National Park. The unusual mix of Shinto shrines and Buddhist buildings gives the Shinto architecture a grandiose dimension. Simplicity is simply not the point, and the ornate buildings offer a wealth of colors and details, including gold leaf decorations which may surprise careful observers.

Despite the crowds, Toshogu is pervaded with a peculiar atmosphere which is well worth the high price of the entrance ticket. A few extra hundred yens will open the doors of the Treasure House for you as well as those of the Museum of Art, both built recently.

Futarasan Jinja

Established in the 8th century in dedication to one of Nikko's mountain gods Mt. Nantai, Futarasan-jinja Shrine represents the spiritual heart of the area. Although not as grand and ornate as its neighbors, Toshogu Shrine and Rinnoji Temple , Futarasan-jinja Shrine boasts the mountain behind it as the main place of worship.

The shrine grounds are mostly free to enter except for a small paid area to the left of the offering hall (haiden). The paid area features a small, forested garden with a couple more halls, a spring, old sacred trees and closer views onto the main hall (honden) that stands behind the offering hall. Located one kilometer from the shrine grounds, the Shinkyo Bridge also belongs to Futarasan Shrine.

Walking In Sheshan National Forest Park ???? | Shanghai Summer Walk 2022 | Walking Tour 4K

Hi everyone!

If you want to support my channel please do like and subscribe to my channel and press the bell icon to never miss new video updates. ????

This 4K city walking tour video provides you a virtual experience of seeing the amazing forest park in Shanghai. Enjoy the sights and listen to the natural sounds of the city. This is purely walking and no talking. Everything in this video is filmed on the location.

Sheshan National Forest Park is located in Songjiang District in the southwest of the city. The park features no less than 12 mountain peaks, meaning this a great place to explore if you’re an avid hiker. Interestingly, Sheshan actually became famous in the 1940s as a prominent place of worship among the Catholic community. The Sheshan Cathedral, which still stands today, was completed in 1935 and ordained by Pope Pius XII in 1942. The site is presently the only active pilgrimage site for Roman Catholics in China.

However, if it’s nature you’re interested in rather than religion, the West Sheshan Park section is said to be the most stunning part in terms of natural beauty, while the eastern part is home to over 5000 birds, of which ten species are nationally protected.
