Guatemala City Highest Bridge

Hello Friends! this is Puente del Incienso, located in the heart of Guatemala City, the massive Incienso viaduct is the highest road bridge in Central America carrying 6 lanes more than 131 metres above a V-shaped ravine. The main span is 122 metres. Around and under the bridge people have built houses, a few hundred people have jumped to their deaths, even thought its fenced.

San Marcos, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala

San Marcos, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala . . . I can't say it was my favourite place but on our last day when all the clouds finally lifted it was a like a dream place. ( although I think it would have been even better in another smaller town )

The lake is wonderful and sad all at the same time. But being able to see the volcano and a crystal clear lake is something out of this world.

Why backpackers should go to Guatemala City!

Backpackers in Guatemala usually avoid the capital Guatemala City and they should definitely not. In only a short time, I have discovered that Guatemala City is nothing like what backpackers and travellers expect. It's a modern city with history, architecture and it's cheap. This video shows my first 48 hours in the city and in that time, I felt safe and enjoyed just wondering around.

I am an older backpacker travelling the world proving that backpacking is not just for the younger generation. This is day 146 of a year long adventure.
