Our visit Nuremberg travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (Nuremberg Bratwurst, beer and pretzels), top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting castles, churches and museums. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Nuremberg tourism brochure, Nuremberg itinerary or Nuremberg, Germany city tour.

10 Things to do in Nuremberg, Germany travel guide video transcript:

We started our day by taking the U-bahn to the centre of town and getting off at Lorenzkirche. This put us on the south bank of the Pegnitz River, where we took the opportunity to browse some markets before visiting St Lorenz Church.

This is a beautiful gothic church complete with pointed vaults, stained glass windows, and sculptures.

From there we walked across one of the city’s many bridges and continued on to the Beautiful Fountain (yes, that’s the name), searching for a bit of good luck.

One of Nuremberg’s most famed attractions is the Imperial Castle located in the northwest end of the Old Town. The castle is a testament to the power of the Holy Roman Empire during the middle ages.

And we couldn’t come all the way to Nuremberg and not try the famed Nuremberger sausage! We went to Bratwursthäusle, right in the heart of the Old Town by St Sebaldus Church.

Later that afternoon we went into Nuremberg’s deep underground on a tour of the historic beer cellars. Nuremberg has been a beer brewing city for centuries.

While in town, we also took a walk down Weißgerbergasse, which may just be one of the prettiest streets in Nuremberg. This curved cobbled street is lined with half-timbered houses.

Albrecht Dürer’s one time home is now a museum dedicated to his life and work. He was a German Renaissance artist across many mediums, but he is best known for revolutionizing printmaking and elevating it as an art form. At certain times of day, they offer a guided tour with an actress who plays the role of Agnes Dürer, the artist’s wife.

The bridge we were looking for is the Heilig-Geist-Spital, or the Holy Spirit Hospital. It’s not a bridge in the usual sense of the word, rather a medieval building that sits across part of the Pegnitz River.

On a more serious note, we couldn’t leave Nuremberg without also visiting the Dokuzentrum, also known as the The Documentation Center Nazi Party Rallying Grounds.

And that’s a wrap for a our guide to Nuremberg, Germany. If you have any other suggestions of cool things to do in Nuremberg, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments below.

This is part of our Travel in Germany video series showcasing German food, German culture and German cuisine.

BEST THINGS TO DO IN NUREMBERG GERMANY (TRAVEL GUIDE)

There are plenty of things to do in Nuremberg. In our Nuremberg Germany travel guide, we show you how to spend 24 hours exploring the best sights.

Our first stop on our Nuremberg city tour was at Zum Gulden Stern. Here we tried the original Nuremberg Röstla (grilled bratwurst). They were delicious!

After lunch, we made our way to Henkersteg (Hangman's Bridge). From the bridge we could also see Weinstadel, the famous half timbered house. Next we found Weißgerbergasse. This street is filled with beautiful half timbered houses that were owned by leathermakers.

We then made our way to Albrecht Durer's House. He was one of Germany's most famous artists. His house is located in Tiergärtnertor Square. This square is filled with red and white houses, and it's the perfect place to try Nuremberg's iconic red beer (rotbier) at Hausbrauerei Altstadthof. Not very far away from the square is the Imperial Castle of Nuremberg. We walked up the steep hill to get great views of the city of Nuremberg. After visiting Nuremberg's castle, we walked to Haupmarkt.

Hauptmarkt is Nuremberg's main market located in the Old Town. In the market area is Schöner Brunnen (Beautiful Fountain). The fountain has a gold ring that you are supposed to turn for good luck. Also in the main market is Frauenkirche, Nuremberg. The church has a mechanical clock that puts on a show at noon. While in the market, we wanted to try the famous Nuremberg gingerbread so we went to Wicklein - Die Lebküchnerei.

After the yummy gingerbread, we made our way to St. Lorenz Church (Lorenzkirche). The church houses a very large organ with 12,000 pipes. Another Nuremberg attraction to check out is the Way of Human Rights. It's an outdoor sculpture with columns that are engraved with human rights. Our last stop in Nuremberg was at Handwerkerhof Nuremberg. It's a medieval shopping village with restaurants and workshops.

Germany is a country rich in history and culture. Some of its top attractions include the Reichstag building, the Cologne Cathedral, and the Berlin Wall. The Reichstag building is a beautiful example of German architecture, and it's home to the German parliament, the Bundestag.

The Cologne Cathedral is a stunning Gothic church that is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany. The Berlin Wall was a symbol of the Cold War, and it is now a popular spot for tourists to take photos. There are many other wonderful places to visit in Germany, and this is just a small sampling of what the country has to offer.

The first known settlers in the area of modern-day Germany were the Celts, who arrived in the region around 1000 BC. The Roman Empire eventually conquered the Celtic territory, and Germanic tribes began to settle in the area in the 4th century AD.

The Holy Roman Empire was formed in 962 AD, and would eventually become one of the most powerful empires in European history. The empire reached its height under Charlemagne, who was crowned emperor in 800 AD. However, the empire began to decline in the 10th century, and eventually fell apart in 1806.

In 1871, Germany became a united nation-state under the leadership of Otto von Bismarck. The country rapidly industrialized in the late 19th century, and became a major European power. However, Germany's ambitions led to conflict in 1914, and the country was involved in World War I.

Germany was defeated in 1918, and the Treaty of Versailles placed strict limitations on the German military. This led to growing resentment amongst the German people, and in 1933 Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party came to power.

Under Hitler's leadership, Germany became a totalitarian state and began a program of expansionism that led to World War II. The war ended with Germany's defeat in 1945, and the country was occupied by Allied forces.

Germany began to rebuild in the 1950s and became a major economic power once again. The country was also reunited in 1990, after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Today, Germany is one of the leading nations of the European Union and is a major player on the world stage.

At number 5, it's time to satiate your taste buds at Bratwursthausle. Here, Nuremberg's culinary legacy takes center stage in the form of the iconic Nuremberg sausages. Each bite carries the flavors of tradition and centuries of gastronomic expertise. But this experience is more than just a meal—it's a celebration of culture and community. Amidst the cozy ambiance, you'll savor the essence of Nuremberg's culinary heritage.

Our fourth pick invites reflection at the Nazi Party Rally Grounds and Documentation Center. This sobering site pays tribute to history's lessons, urging us to remember and learn. Through exhibits that reveal the complexities of a tumultuous era, you'll gain insights into the human story behind the history. This is more than a museum—it's a testament to the importance of understanding the past to shape a more compassionate future.

Claiming our bronze medal at number 3 is the Albrecht Dürer House—a portal to the world of an artistic genius. Step inside the abode of Albrecht Dürer, the Renaissance maestro whose works have left an indelible mark on art history. Wander through rooms that once saw the birth of masterpieces, allowing you to glimpse the soul and inspiration behind the brushstrokes. This is an intimate encounter with creativity, bridging the gap between centuries.

Our second-to-last experience is a voyage of romance and beauty along the Romantic Road at number 2. Wind through quaint villages, meander along rolling landscapes, and bask in the shadow of fairytale castles that seem to have sprung from the pages of storybooks. This scenic route captures the essence of Bavarian charm, unfolding a tapestry of nature, culture, and history at every turn. Each mile is an invitation to savor the slow journey, where the road itself is a destination.

And now, for the crescendo of our countdown—the number 1 experience that promises to be the crown jewel of your Nuremberg adventure: the Bimmelbahn Train city tour!
