Welcome to our video of the historic town of Nördlingen in Bavaria,
Another beautiful town on Germany's Romantische Straße or Romantic road. The town was formed in a crater, it is still surrounded by its medieval walls, with ancient gatehouses & historic towers. Within its walls is a fine medieval town to be explored, and we follow part of it's historic tour * , along its walls, discover its streets and head to the centre of the Altstadt, or old town.

Nördlingen Germany - Walled city of 72,000 ton of gem stones
Nördlingen is a town in along the gorgeous Romantic Road in Bavaria, Germany.
It was built in an impact crater of a meteorite. And it is said that many of the buildings have been made from that meteorite.
The material is full of minute gemstones, diamonds. This means that the old town is like no other on earth, as it is made almost entirely with gem-laden stones.
Local geologists estimated that the town walls and buildings contain approximately 72,000 tons of diamonds.
There are settlements found in the area of Nördlingen of the 7th millennium BC.
And the city itself was part of the Roman Empire, but not much of that era is left.
It was during the Middle Ages that Nördlingen took the shape of what we see today.
There are only three towns in Germany that still have the a completely intact city wall. Nördlingen is one of them.
The other two are Rothenburg and Dinkelsbühl, all in Bavaria, all on the Romantic Road.
You can walk the entire wall which is about 2.6 km.
You’ll walk takes you past several historical towers and the five gates to the town.
The views on the many red rooftops and white plastered houses is stunning.
This city of Nördlingen is said to have inspired the anime series Attack on Titan.

Germany is a country rich in history and culture. Some of its top attractions include the Reichstag building, the Cologne Cathedral, and the Berlin Wall. The Reichstag building is a beautiful example of German architecture, and it's home to the German parliament, the Bundestag.
The Cologne Cathedral is a stunning Gothic church that is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany. The Berlin Wall was a symbol of the Cold War, and it is now a popular spot for tourists to take photos. There are many other wonderful places to visit in Germany, and this is just a small sampling of what the country has to offer.
The first known settlers in the area of modern-day Germany were the Celts, who arrived in the region around 1000 BC. The Roman Empire eventually conquered the Celtic territory, and Germanic tribes began to settle in the area in the 4th century AD.
The Holy Roman Empire was formed in 962 AD, and would eventually become one of the most powerful empires in European history. The empire reached its height under Charlemagne, who was crowned emperor in 800 AD. However, the empire began to decline in the 10th century, and eventually fell apart in 1806.
In 1871, Germany became a united nation-state under the leadership of Otto von Bismarck. The country rapidly industrialized in the late 19th century, and became a major European power. However, Germany's ambitions led to conflict in 1914, and the country was involved in World War I.
Germany was defeated in 1918, and the Treaty of Versailles placed strict limitations on the German military. This led to growing resentment amongst the German people, and in 1933 Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party came to power.
Under Hitler's leadership, Germany became a totalitarian state and began a program of expansionism that led to World War II. The war ended with Germany's defeat in 1945, and the country was occupied by Allied forces.
Germany began to rebuild in the 1950s and became a major economic power once again. The country was also reunited in 1990, after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Today, Germany is one of the leading nations of the European Union and is a major player on the world stage.

Nördlingen, Germany Walking Tour: Attack on Titan City (4K Ultra HD 60fps)
I recorded this 4k ultra hd video during my trip in Nördlingen, which is a town in Bavaria, Germany. It was built in a 15 million year old & 25 km diameter wide impact crater the Nördlinger Ries. The city was the location of two battles during the Thirty Years' War between 1618 and 1648. Today it is one of only three towns in Germany that still have completely intact city walls, the other two being Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Dinkelsbühl. The fictional town Shiganshina from the anime series Attack on Titan is inspired by Nördlingen. This walking tour is about 2 miles (3.2 km) long, starts at the Daniel Tower of St. Georg Church, ends at Obstmarkt and covers many attractions and historic sites of Nördlingen Old Town. Die wunderschöne Stadt Nördlingen in Bayern, die ehemals freie Reichsstadt an der „Romantischen Straße“ hat einen sehr gut erhaltenen mittelalterlichen Stadtkern welcher vollständig durch eine rundum begehbare Stadtmauer (die Stadtmauer geht zurück auf das Jahr 1327, ist ca. 2,7 km lang und Deutschlands einzige vollständig erhaltenen Stadtmauer) eingegrenzt ist. Der Kirchturm „Daniel“ im Zentrum der Altstadt, von dem nach wie vor jeden Abend der Türmer seinen Wächterruf „So, G´sell, so“ ruft, und das mittelalterliche Stadtbild mit schönen Fachwerkhäusern, ist wohl einzigartig auf der ganzen Welt. Anbei einige Aufnahmen von unseren Tagesausflug in diese tolle Stadt.
The beautiful city of Nördlingen (Bavaria), the formerly free imperial city on the Romantic Road has a very well-preserved medieval city center which is completely covered by a city wall that can be walked all around (the city wall dates back to 1327, is approx. 2.7 km long and Germany's only one completely preserved city wall) is delimited. The church tower Daniel in the center of the old town, from which the tower keeper still shouts his guardian call So, G'sell, so every evening, and the medieval townscape is probably unique in the whole world. Here are some pictures from our day trip to this great city.
La belle ville de Nördlingen, l'ancienne ville impériale libre sur la Romantique a un centre-ville médiéval très bien conservé qui est entièrement recouvert par un mur de la ville qui peut être parcouru tout autour (le mur de la ville remonte à 1327, est d'environ 2,7 km de long et le seul mur d'enceinte entièrement préservé d'Allemagne) est délimité. Le clocher de l'église Daniel au centre de la vieille ville, d'où le gardien de la tour crie toujours son appel de gardien Alors, G'sell, so tous les soirs, et le paysage urbain médiéval est probablement unique au monde. Voici quelques photos de notre excursion d'une journée dans cette grande ville.

Nordlingen, Germany - Old town area (medieval) with intact wall still standing
Going back as far as 898 A.D., it is now the only walled town in Germany where the wall is still intact all the way around it - about 3 km in total length. We visited in October 2012 and spent an entire afternoon in this charming town on the Romantic Road (Romantische Straße) of Germany, located in the region of Bavaria.
Ed does the narration and most of the video filming while I do most of the still photos and then edit all of it to create this You Tube upload.

This city of #Nördlingen is said to have inspired #AttackOnTitan ‘s design of the city in the #anime.
But there is more. Tens of thousands of years ago a meteor - laden with tiny gem stones - crashed. On that 25 kilometre crater, the city of Nördlingen has been build From that diamon-dust-stone. Some experts have estimated that the old town contains 72,000 tons of diamonds in its buildings and walls.

Nordlingen - The town built out of diamonds
Nördlingen is a small town in Bavaria with a population of 19,000. Towns in Southern Germany are very picteresque with their red roofs and timber-framed (fachwerk) houses, but Nördlingen with its history of more than 1,000 years is a real gem among them.
Nördlingen is a key stop on the Romantic Road, famous for its diamonds and its intact Medieval walls. The Romantic Road is a road trip itinerary that explores much of the best of southern Germany.
The town is famous for still having its old defensive wall around it and for the many micro meteorite diamonds used in its construction.
The 25 kilometer-wide Reis crater in which the town sits was formed approximately 15 million years ago after an asteroid collided with this region of Bavaria. In addition to leaving the indentation where the town was built, molten rock was tossed into the air from the immense pressure of the impact causing the existing rock to form diamonds. This collision also resulted in the creation of a coarse-grained rock containing crystal, glass, and diamond known as suevite.
The crater is one of the best studied in the world, and it was even used in training for the Apollo mission.
Nordlingen was built within the crater's depression around 6 kilometers or 3.7 miles southwest of its center. They used the stone to build the local Medieval buildings that glitter and shimmer today.
Around 900 A.D., the first settlements began in the area though it was not until the Middle Ages that the fortified walls surrounding the town were constructed. For centuries, the citizens of Nördlingen had believed the depression housing the town to be a volcanic crater unaware of the gemstones embedded in very fabric of their community.
The Church of St. Georgs, the tallest structure in the town, is constructed entirely of suevite and contains approximately 5,000 carats of diamond. However, the largest gemstones are 0.3 mm and can only be observed with a microscope. Yet the diamond-clad stone structures are said to catch the sunlight, rendering the buildings in a soft glimmer.
